Fantastic Value,

Like the other 300-series Yamaha recorders, the Alto provides fantastic quality for the price. It is durable, comfortable, and sounds surprisingly nice. It will meet the needs of most casual players.

I am very happy with this alto recorder, it sounds so much nicer then my soprano recorder. (my soprano recorder is NOT a 300 Yamaha 300-Series )Pros- 1. Nice mellow sound. Very pretty sound I didn't know a recorder could sound this nice. 2. This recorder comes with a carrying case, joint grease, a cleaning rode & protective capes to cover the joints for storage. The case is made of strong canvass. 3. I found lots of free solo sheet music online for the alto recorder. Was hard to find solo sheet music for the soprano recorder. Cons. 1. This recorder is much larger then the soprano recorder. I have small hands, my wedding ring is a size 5 1/2.(which every one says is pretty small) Its hard for me to reach the bottom whole on this recorder. But with practice this couldn't be a problem. All the other holes are fairly easy to cover. Over all this is a great recorder.

Quality and Beauty Come at a Hefty Price--NOT!,

You know, I love being a recorder player. Sure, there are the hundred-dollar wooden instruments that sound great, but you don't have to pay much at all to get a great instrument! I've played both the cheaper white Yamaha (pardon me for not remembering the model - YRA 24 or something?) and this one, and there is a noticeable difference. As you all probably know, the featured arched wind way really adds to the clarity and solidness of the instrument, as well making the upper-register notes easy to reach. It also enhances the quality of those higher notes, making it less likely that you'll hit one of those pungent and unpleasant sounds. Overall, it's a great instrument. Not trying to start a fight, but I couldn't disagree more with the 1-star reviewer regarding his opinion that it's inconsistent and hard to stay on tone (he said something to this effect). I find this instrument incredibly easy to play and very rewarding. Highly recommended, coming from an experienced recorder player of practically all his life.

Not a very good recorder,

I was looking for an alto recorder with nice fine notes - this is definately not that kind. I've had recorders in the past that were way better than this. It's hard to achieve the pitch you want in a consistent manner. I would not recommend this recorder at all.
