5.0 out of 5 stars Good for Yamaha, March 16, 2009

Yamaha recorders are good instruments, especially for the reasonable cost. This especially was a great buy since it included the case as well as individual bags for the recorders. Cases alone are quite expensive. I like that I don't have to take apart the instruments before stowing them, and they are ready to play when I arrive at the playing site.

Having tried to shop for just two recorders and not finding local suppliers having much more than the usual school-boy soprano recorders we found this set on Amazon. What fun! With minimal practice you can play tunes on all four (although you need big hands for the Tenor recorder) and with more practice you can play just about anything.

The tones are good, and the tuning well within one's ability to control one's breath - a standard control for playing recorders.

I would endorse this set for anyone who wants to take recreational recorder playing to the next level.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's 2nd grade, all grown up., June 5, 2010

Recorders hold nostalgia for me. These are far better than the shrieking ones of my 2nd grade life, though. It's a great little collection of recorders, well-packaged for travelling and for sharing with others. It's been fun getting friends and family to partake and I've enjoyed (re)learning how to play. The only drawback is that spittle accumulates pretty quickly in the head and isn't all that easy to clear out at times. I really do like the durability of each of these, however, and there's plenty of room to still carry a spittle rag and joint wax.

I've owned these for about 6 months and I play them almost every day. They're sound quality is excellent and it's really easy to carry around. If you like to play the recorder, this is a really great way to expand your range.

When I realized my daughter enjoyed playing the recorder in school, I went in search of something a little more sophisticated, hoping to encourage her interest. If you are looking at this set for the same reason, you won't be disappointed. Since she seemed very responsible for her age, I decided to indulge both of us with better recorders than the usual one suggested in school. I gave several to her as a Christmas gift. As a gift, it went over very well. Now I see you can buy them as a set. If you can't afford the entire set, at least consider the sopranino in addition to the one required in class. It is a lovely instrument. And, stick with the Yamaha brand for whatever recorders you buy.

At school she caught the eye of another teacher who put together a quartet of youngsters and they would play for fun after school. When my daughter practiced at home, I heard pleasant sounds from her room. She felt special because she was able to stand out from the crowd.

Im happy that she's stayed interested in musical instruments. I believe the recorder set helped that to happen. This is well worth the price. She went on to play the clarinet--first chair. And the recorders are still in use.
