4.0 out of 5 stars Yamaha Quality w/ Essential Features!
Why Yamaha has stopped building high end video and audio components? I am confused! I own all Yamaha equipment due to its quality and performance. Features, I am not so into the extraneous items- eg, Netflix, Rhapsody, etc. I am looking for a quality machine, and I found it. The performance is great and its firmware can be updated. The new 3D, hey I could care less, who...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not up to the competition
This Blu-ray Player looks good on paper but our copy was a major disappointment. It is my impression that Yamaha was a little slow to the Blu-ray player market. I had hoped for better. Now I question their commitment to Blu-ray and their firmware support in general. It is quite poor. I expected the player to measure up equally to the other high end Yamaha products we...

This review is from: Yamaha BD-S1900BL Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
This Blu-ray Player looks good on paper but our copy was a major disappointment. It is my impression that Yamaha was a little slow to the Blu-ray player market. I had hoped for better. Now I question their commitment to Blu-ray and their firmware support in general. It is quite poor. I expected the player to measure up equally to the other high end Yamaha products we own. Not true. Despite installing the available firmware (6 months old) the player could not deliver a pleasing picture. Playing Avatar, the image was filled with pixalization such that we have never seen. While the movie kept playing the bars of pixals were jsut plain terrible. Other discs were a disappointment as well. The player was returned and, as expected, Amazon.com customer service was superb. We purchased an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray Player instead and could not be happier. Everything about that player is awesome. Live and learn. Yamaha needs to take notice!

1.0 out of 5 stars Laughably sloooow loading...., September 9, 2010

I was supplied this Yamaha BD-S1900 because our supplier could not get an OPPO in time.
Build quality looks good and the unit feels solid.
I require RS-232 control and Network and both these are present.

I powered on the unit, and waited.... and waited.... finally I was able to open the drawer and insert my BD disk.
Closed drawer, hit play, and waited.... and waited.... and waited.... nearly THREE MINUTES later the BD menu appeared.

This is the slowest BD I have had the misfortune to meet; it is so slow that the users will surely give up and report it as broken.
How anyone can roll out a 'new' product with such dismal performance escapes me.

Disk replay is good to very good with particularly good audio quality. Response to IR remote is sluggish.

As for RS-232 control; I'm still waiting for the RS-232 control codes from the dealer... they are unavailable on the www and apparently unknown to the dealer.
Why sell a BD player as RS-232 enabled if you cannot supply the control codes???

Totally infuriating product (and service from our supplier). This unit is going back. I will NEVER use one again; in fact I will be avoiding all Yamaha BD products.

Avoid this player.

The new 3D, hey I could care less, who wants to wear uncomfortable glasses and watch TV, not me at least. What does it boil down to? If you want Yamaha quality with NO useless features, this is a Blu-Ray for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars 7.1 sound for maximum entertainment., December 27, 2011

I love watching movies on BD, shame it is not multizone. It has USB and Ethernet connection, it is best to output 7.1 sound
You can supplement with receiver for maximum entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow but worth wait, January 19, 2011
This review is from: Yamaha BD-S1900BL Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Wouldn't pay $699 but for $125 it seems a good deal. It is a little slow to load but the sound into my out of date Newcastle 963 thru the 7.1 analog out put is fantastic. I think the picture is also suberb. It is a new unit so will have to see how it holds up , but other than the at times slow load times I am very happy at this price range. Dan

1.0 out of 5 stars You should be ashamed, Yamaha., December 23, 2010

This review is from: Yamaha BD-S1900BL Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Bought the unit in February 2010. Rather slow to load and lacked features at this price range (paid $599, list was $699). But very substantial unit and I was confident it would perform flawlessly and reliably as I have come to expect from owning several Yamaha high-end receivers.

Units failed twice within 6 months, with returns to Yamaha for replacement. Failed to read disks. Audio output failed.

While BD live feature has never been reliable, time to move on to a new non-Yamaha player (this player still lists at $699 on Yamaha site but sells for $129 which is still more than its worth in todays competitive bluray market).

While Yamaha clearly knows how to make an excellent receiver, they have a lot to learn about building blurays.

5.0 out of 5 stars YAMAHA BD-S1900BL, November 9, 2010
This review is from: Yamaha BD-S1900BL Blu-ray Disc Player (Electronics)
Mine takes no longer to turn on or load than my Sony, or Panasonic ( no three minutes) and has a better picture and sound quality. Easy to set up.

I am very pleased with the performance and could not believe the drop in price so I snaped one up.

Now all of my audio video equipment is Yamaha and it all performs and sounds better than all the so called high end equipment that I have auditioned.
