GREAT CONCEPT?,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yamaha CDR-HD1500 CD-R/RW 200GB Hard Drive Digital Audio Recorder (Black) (Electronics)
Although I've owned alot of high end audio equipment I've never owned or operated a cd recorder with a built in hard drive, so I'm coming from a novice point of view. What attracted me to purchase the CDR 1500 is the simple idea that you can load all your CD's in the CDR 1500 harddrive put all the CD's away in my closet(and make room for other things) sit back relax and with the remote control have all your CD's at your finger tips. Now i gotta say learning how to operate this thing has not been easy. I downloaded the manual on my laptop for easy viewing and took it step by step. I haven't been able to make the BOOKMARKING feature work, but I've managed to work around that(it just adds a few extra steps). I'm going to add an outboard DAC to improve on the sound, although the copy from CD to HD is almost imperceptable. It makes great cd copies. I'm glad not to have to deal anymore with the driver problems associated with NERO and ROXIO with VISTA, just check all the reviews else where on Amazon concerning this. As for the quality of the unit, well it feels alittle crude in some spots. You have to make sure you press firmly on the buttons to activate them and the CD transport has a cheap feel and then there's that learning curve. I think Yamaha has a good thing here and I'm sure they'll make improvements. You're not going to find a music server at this price. As a matter of fact I removed the 200GB Harddrive that came with it and installed a Maxtor 400GB Harddrive because this definitely a keeper. I'll keep updating and if there's anyone who can help me with the BOOKMARKING feature it would be much appreciated.

The Best of the Best,
This review is from: Yamaha CDR-HD1500 CD-R/RW 200GB Hard Drive Digital Audio Recorder (Black) (Electronics)
Ok I just got it yesterday,I have not used it yet. After using home units for the past ten years. This one is at the top of the game. The one thing that is not clear in the adds, the hard drive is not built in. It uses the same hard drive that you would have in your computer. It can be changed by the user, comes with simple instructions. This is a great plus. it can take up to a 400gb hard drive,IDE.I read a lot of these reviews about hard to use.Its not rocket science. If you read the manual and take it one step at a time it can be done.I use it for transfering my vinyl collection that has not seen the light of day on CD.Amazon states it first got this unit in 2006 which made me wonder if it was still in production. Yes it is mine has a date stamp December 2008.After I have run it through the normal use I will do a follow up.
