My daughter has been learning at a phenomenal pace on this instrument and I have played it quite a lot myself just because it is such a nice instrument.

I teach classical guitar and one of my daughters is now old enough (8 yrs. old for a larger instrument but a full-sized guitar is still too big. I took a chance on buying this guitar sight-unseen but I have pleasantly surprised. It only arrived yesterday, but since I teach guitar it doesn't take me a long time to assess the quality of an instrument. It's not perfect, but is acceptable.

It came well-packed - the guitar itself is wrapped in a soft plastic wrap, then boxed, and then that box is inside another box. I could find no damage due to shipping and it arrived about one week before Christmas. The finish on the guitar is shiny lacquer, the machine tuning pegs work well, the action seemed to be just right at the frets near the body of the guitar, the construction seems solid, but what surprised me the most after I tuned it up was the voice it had. For a little, brand-new, inexpensive guitar it had quite a nice loud voice. And hopefully it will only get better with age.

So far I have found only 2 things that could be improved: The bass strings (E,A,D) buzz slightly when fretted on the lower frets near the head of the guitar if not fretted close to the leading fret (only teachers and experienced guitarists will probably know what I'm talking about). I think it's just because of the cheap strings that it came with or possibly the nut may need to be a tiny bit higher, but I'm not very concerned because I think that with a good set of quality strings this problem will resolve itself. And if it doesn't I'm still o.k. with it because the buzz is very slight and I tend to listen acutely for any unusual sounds.

We purchased this guitar at the recommendation of our daughter's elementary school music teacher. He is teaching her how to play guitar and the Yamaha CGS103A 3/4 size is an excellent beginner instrument that she will be able to use for quite awhile as she grows. She is 8 years old and this guitar can easily take her through her teen years. Amazon.com had the best price, it shipped very quickly from Best Service Stores, and it arrived before the estimated date.

I bought this guitar for my daughter and so far it is proving to be the perfect guitar for her. The 3/4 size is just right for her hands and body size (9 years old) but will also grow with her for the next few years at least. The sound is very nice and impressed her guitar instructor. The guitar was shipped inside two separate boxes with adequate packing material and a foam sleeve, so needless to say, arrived in perfect shape.

Usually, you'd buy a cheap guitar hoping that the neck would be straight and it will make some sort of sound that's good enough to learn on (it is a student guitar).

>My daughter got this for her 7th birthday and I'd say 3/4 size is still a bit to big for her, but I think the kids grow UP and not DOWN, so it'll fir her fine in the future.
>The built is what you'd expect from a standard classical guitar: no chips in lacker, straight neck, no dead frets, holds tune very well for $129 guitar (I tune it about once every four weeks).
>The sound is surprisingly amazing: clear, loud.
>Intonation is right on.

I have nothing bad to say about this instrument. Yes, INSTRUMENT, not a TOY to my surprise.

I bought this guitar for my 7 yrs old son. His music teacher recommend me to buy it from local music store so its easier to return, just in case. But I can't help but to check first at amazon and very suprise to see all the good prices + free shipping. I always like Yamaha guitar so when I see the 3/4 size at the cheap, I just jump on it. What make me write this review is because my son music teacher was very impressed with its sound and you don't need herculean fingers to play it.

I have been wanting an Nylon Acoustic for some time now. When my daughter signed up for a guitar class I was hopeful that meant we could bring another guitar into the family. I found this through Amazon and hoped the reviews would match reality. I can't be happier with this guitar.

Its beautiful and well constructed for the price and it sounds great. Furthermore although its 3/4 size its playable by an adult. In fact I might recommend it for someone with small hands. I am happy to add this guitar to our family.

I bought this one based on reviews here. My daughter decided she wanted to learn to play the guitar & I had not one clue about buying her one. I searched online & my search lead me here to Amazon to this guitar. Read the reviews & went for it. I am so happy with this guitar! Her guitar instructor was impressed as well. And told me Yamaha makes some of the best classical guitars. The size of the guitar is a little bigger than I had expected for 3/4 size.

Yahama is normally a pretty good value. In the music world they make good quality stuff but not great quality. Not the bottom rung by any change but certainly not top-notch.
Probably for the price this is the best quality you're going to find, with Ibanez maybe being a close second. The guitar will do the job and fit & finish is quite good for a cheaper guitar, but like any cheaper guitar its not going to have incredible acoustic volume.
If money is not an object and you like Yamaha, check out their flamenco versions which are normally a couple hundred dollars more. Those are nice guitars.
