Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The DGX300 is part of a new piano-focused series of instruments from Yamaha called Portable Grand. Yamaha is one of the only portable keyboard manufacturers that builds and designs real pianos, which makes it uniquely qualified to reproduce excellent piano performance in a compact unit. With the advent of the Yamaha DGX300, Yamaha confirms its leadership position once again. As for sound, the DGX300 features an extra-high-quality stereo piano sample and a generous selection of Yamaha's famous XG Lite voices, resulting in remarkable sonic quality far beyond anything in its price point. The quality is enhanced by the inclusion of two-way speakers and bass ports for high fidelity sound.

The DGX300 features a 3.5-inch disk drive with the ability to read and write Standard MIDI Files (SMF), allowing it to communicate with the world. You can download a song file from the literally thousands of songs on the Internet onto a 3.5-inch disk in your computer, then take the same disk, insert it into the DGX300, and play the song. You can also purchase professionally made MIDI song files and education software with music from your local music store. Conveniently, the backlit display allows you to select a song from the disk by name. To play the song, just push the start button, sit back, and enjoy. If writing songs is your thing, you can save them to disk for permanent storage. And if you don't want to bother writing out the music for a song, you can just record it as you play. Now, imagine recording your child's first song onto a disk, copying it into your computer, and attaching it to e-mail so friends and family can hear.

And finally, even though the DGX300 comes with a generous selection of built-in music styles, the disk drive opens up the ability to load in even more styles for you to enjoy. And guess what, the Internet is alive with people exchanging styles that they have created on high-end Yamaha keyboards. The amazing benefits of having a disk drive inside your keyboard are all there, waiting for you.

Additional features:

  • 2-way speaker system: Separate tweeters deliver high-frequency sounds with clarity and precision for more lifelike instrument voices.
  • Bass boost system: A special port on each speaker adds a powerful impact to bass sound reproduction.
  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP): Enhances sound quality with sophisticated digital effects like reverb, chorus, and echo effects.
  • Advanced Wave Memory (AWM): Yamaha Advanced Wave Memory technology delivers amazingly realistic sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yamaha DGX300, April 1, 2005
This review is from: Yamaha DGX300 Electronic Keyboard (Electronics)
Considering the price of this keyboard, it is of very good quality. It sounds 80% like a real piano and feels 70% like the real one (the keys are still a little too light). And like many have reviewed this keyboard, I also feel the sound is not "loud" enough. I have to turn the volumn close to max in order to have a decent volumn with or without headphone (btw, if you turn off the touch function then the keyboard will be louder but it will be mono-tone). However, it is still a wonderful keyboard in this price range. I am glad that I got it. If you don't mind spending a bit more money (~$500), the Casio 88-key ones sounds and feels better than the Yamaha ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Instrument, June 1, 2003

I've owned several Yamaha Clavinova's over the years & have liked their playability, sound & quality. Though no digital piano in any price range can sound like an accoutic piano, most come close.

What interested me in the Yamaha DGX500 was the educational software included since I'd been away from the piano for several years. Plus having 88 keys to play Jazz was also an added bonus. ....

Once assembled, I turned on the instrument & amazed at the sound from a digital piano ... It has a beautiful blue LCD display that indicates both treble & bass clef & also shows all the keys on the piano so when you play you can instantly see where each key is & what note you are playing. Also included are over 200 songs (complete w/sheet music) that can be easily learned via the display. The educational software makes learning (or re-learning) music fun since it can teach you right hand-left hand techiques, timing, etc.

All in all this instrument is well worth the money even if you pay retail ...P>If you are an inspiring student or someone like me who took a hiatus from playing, take a serious look at this piano before choosing a more expensive instrument.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL BIRTHDAY PRESENT!, September 23, 2003

Hey, guess what? My mother's gonna bring me this keyboard on my birthday on November 15th. It has a total of 200 songs, 5 user songs, 135 accompaniments, and more. The manual is multilingual, but you can access the English version and the Spanish version on www.yamaha.com. So come on and check it out! Oh yeah!

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo doubt this is the best keyboard, or should I call it "Digital Piano", that YAMAHA's ever made. It's incredible how it sounds, so you'd like to check out the audio samples on YAMAHA's page, www.yamaha.com

COME ON!
