5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD player!
This dvd player was just released in Dec, 2004. I've used it for 5 months so far. It's a great DVD player. It can play everything I throw in: DVD+R, DVD-R, & VCD. Even more, it can play the AVI and MPG files on both CD and DVD media.

The picture quality is great. I have a SONY HDTV and playing movie with progressive scan (480P) is just amazing. The sound, you...

3.0 out of 5 stars One Important Flaw
I live in Costa Rica and recently purchased the Yamaha DV-C6760. I am completely happy with it's performance as far as picture quality and sound. One of the reasons I purchased this particular unit is that it appeared to be the most format friendly on paper. Living in Costa Rica I intended to back up my library of Movies (DVDs) and store them in a mold free environment. I...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great DVD player!, April 26, 2005

This dvd player was just released in Dec, 2004. I've used it for 5 months so far. It's a great DVD player. It can play everything I throw in: DVD+R, DVD-R, & VCD. Even more, it can play the AVI and MPG files on both CD and DVD media.

The picture quality is great. I have a SONY HDTV and playing movie with progressive scan (480P) is just amazing. The sound, you know what Yamaha is good at. I am quite satisfied with its performance as a whole.

My only complaint is the boot time is a little bit long. When you power it on, it takes around 10 to 15 sec to open the tray, and takes another 10 to 15 sec to identify the disc. Afterwards however, it works like a champ. 5-disc changer is awesome. I can watch drama on VCDs without leaving sofa.

There were three DVD changers I was considering to buy. Onkyo, the same brand as my amp, is my first choice. But it turns out that it doesn't support DVD+R media (or -R, I forgot. I saw the review on Circuitcity's website and some people do prove this point). So I have only two brands left, Yamaha and Sony. The Sony one (DVP-NC875V) is about $30 cheaper than Yamaha. But Sony doesn't support DivX, which means it cannot play AVI files. Besides, Sony is well known to deliver so-so audio quality. Thus I think $30 is quite worthy to invest Yamaha. And Yamaha DV-C6760 is a NEW model. Yamaha can do whatever Sony can and do it much better, while Sony cannot. $30 is not a big difference, then why not pick up a better one?

By the way, if you own this machine, there is a trick to make it REGION FREE. I did it and it works.

1. open tray and leave it open.
2. pick up the remote, press 99990
3. "REGION 0" appear in left top corner
4. close tray - DONE

The last digit is the region code. If you press 99991, it will become "region 1". 99992 is region 2. "0" means "region free". Just leave it region free then you can watch any imported DVDs.

Edit (8/12/2005):
1. This player also supports .srt (subtitles)
2. Eject from remote: Press "STOP" button of remote for 3-5 seconds.

Edit (4/11/2006):
One reviewer said this player can play MPG but only video, no audio. It's not very correct. Some MPG doesn't support digital audio output. Try analog output and you will hear the sound. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow To Load, But Plays Disks Dependably!, July 21, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black (Electronics)
My take and things I've noticed about it:

This player is slow to load a disk. However, it has played everything I have put into it with 100% dependability.

The inside of the tray doesn't seem to be as well made as the rest of the unit. It may just be that the tray is kind of huge when it is ejected; it seemingly makes up most of the unit.

The remote control lacks an eject button (that isn't too big a deal to me).

Thanks to another reviewer I am able to play DVDs from other countries (specifically, from the UK - my Laurel & Hardy Collection). For some reason though, I have to reset the audio (via the set-up menu) everytime I play a non-usa region movie or I won't hear any sound coming through at all. Maybe it has something to do with my tv set and 'its' settings - who knows. I do not have to reset anything if it is a good ole regular USA region 1 disk however.

It may be such an obvious point that it goes underappreciated, but the fact that it can hold and play up to 5 DVDs is really awesome! Believe me, it's a blessing! You don't want to have to take out and then load another disk every couple of hours if you don't have to! Especially if it is a movie that spans 2 or more disks. That can be enough to make you 'not' watch a dvd!

Conclusion:

I do not regret purchasing this. There are probably "better" multi-disk DVD players out there (not sure where though), but for the money I think I received a very capable multi-disk DVD player.

I recommend this unit to all of you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Value for Money - 4 1/2 stars., February 13, 2006

This review is from: Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black (Electronics)
I pretty much agree with everything stated above. The tray IS a little slow to respond, but that's it. If this was my only player, I would have expected HDMI and upconversion (then it would earn the full 5 stars), but the ability to program the region and value for money won the day. Plus of course being able to load up hours of CD's. Btw, you can order real Brit (region 1) DVD's from Amazon.co.uk (same login, password, etc., nice job Amazon), and have them shipped here at a very realistic price.

I purchased a new computer with a DVD writer capable of copying to dual layer format DVDs. I did this with success using Nero and DVD Decrypter. Unfortunately the Yamaha DV-6760 has a hard time with copied dual layer format DVD's. The copies I made play fine on my older Sony changer and on a very inexpensive player of my friends. I rated this player with 3 stars only because of this flaw which was important to me.

This is an excellent product. Installation was a breeze. The disk tray is a bit large but for me that was not a problem. Excellent image. Could play DVD's I received from Holland without any problem. Very good product at a very good price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dvd player, February 28, 2006

I bought this to replace an old Pioneer 5 disc dvd player. I bought an HDTV & wanted a prgressive scan player which my old one was not.

My only complaints are that it is slow to power on & slow to eject the tray. The remote is not very good compared to my old Pioneer unit. It's serviceable, just not laid out very well.

On the plus side, it plays AVIs! That is just too cool. I can grab a file from my computer, burn it to cdrw or dvd+rw & this will play it. It will also play an MPG, but only the video, not the audio. It can only read the first 14 characters of an avi file name so keep the names short if you put multiple files on one disc.

I have not yet tried a disc of mp3's but regular audio discs sound excellent & dvd movies look great on my new hdtv. CDR, CDRW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW have all played fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Met and exceeded my initial expectations, January 27, 2006
By
This review is from: Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black (Electronics)
I recieved my Yamaha DV-C6760 yesterday, and so far I am very pleased with it. It supports every file type I could ever want to play, can be set to play any DVD, regardless of region encoding (the tip from an earlier review to make the player regionless worked like a charm), and has all the other features I could ever want. If you burn a CD-R with both MP3s and JPEGs, it can even play a photo slideshow to music.

Initially, I had recieved a Sony brand 5-disc DVD player as a gift, but I returned that one because it could not be made regionless, and worse yet, it could not shuffle tracks between discs. If you integrate a multi-DVD player into your home stereo/theater system, it may as well be a single DVD/CD player if it can't shuffle audio CD songs between discs.

I had a little trouble finding a retailer that had this model of Yamaha DVD player in stock (it even runs out of stock on Amazon from time to time), but it was well worth the effort to find one and the time I waited to get it. For the money, you'd be hard pressed to find a more capable multi-DVD player.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything except DVD-AUDIO and PAL Progressive Scan Output, March 23, 2006
By
Machrohn (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black (Electronics)
Ever since I discovered this player in the summer of 2005, I have been highly impressed with how much it met both my normal and oddball demands. As a student of Musical Theatre, Opera, Classical vocal and choral literature, and Jazz and Classical piano, SACD capability is of great importance to me because there are a lot of titles especially in the Classical genre available in this format. One thing that sets this player apart from the other manufacturers' players is Yamaha's CD UpSampling feature. For those titles which are currently only available on CD and possibly will never be released on DVD-AUDIO and/or SACD, this option converts standard CDs to the quality of DVD-AUDIO. On the Musical Theatre, Opera, and choral side of things, this player is capable of playing both NTSC (North American) and PAL (European) DVDs on corresponding as well as opposite TVs. For certain titles in these genres, the North American editions are either four percent slower in tempo and picture movement and flatter in pitch than the European editions due to the method of PAL-to-NTSC conversion used by the distributors of such DVDs, or do not include as many bonus features as their original European counterparts. Sometimes, it can be the other way around, except the European editions might be four percent faster and sharper and have less bonus material than their original North American counterparts. On both ends of the spectrum, if the audio pitch is corrected without changing the audio speed to keep the picture and sound in synch, a subaudible breaking-up effect may be noticed as the result of slight artifacts from slightly bending or stretching the pitch in the conversion process. However, because of this player's bicompatibility with both color systems, I have the freedom to choose and purchase whatever editions are the best. Although it is not in the manual, this player can be made multi-region compatible including RCE DVDs. Turn on the DVD player. Make sure there are no discs loaded. With the tray open, using its supplied remote control, slowly press 99990. Wait for the 'Region 0' message to disappear. Close the tray. Now you can play any kind of optical disc without thinking about it. In conclusion, if you are looking for a DVD player with wide compatibility, you have come to the right place!

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke after 18 months, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Yamaha DVC6760 DVD Changer, Black (Electronics)
I have two of these units. The first has broken after 18 months. I have sent it back to a Yamaha repair center and the cost to repair is as much (or more) than a factory new unit. It was not used heavily for the time that I have had it... But I AM going to buy another one.... I am a brand loyal type all of my stuff is Yamaha brand.... Looking at some Thiel speakers though..
