Other disc formats handled by the player include standard DVD-Video, video CD (VCD), and video-mode DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW discs. The unit features 108 MHz/12-bit video D/A conversion for pristine quality in any format. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
SACD media offers super high-fidelity sound. Depending on the disc, the SACD format provides multichannel and/or stereo sound, often presented in a dual-layer format compatible with both standard CD players (at standard resolution) and SACD-equipped players like the DV-C6760 (for full-resolution playback).
Audio enhancements consist of an audio-direct switch and CD upsampling playback (to an incredible 1,764 kHz) to give you the best-possible sound quality from your standard audio CDs. MP3 features include the ability to play multisession discs and mixed-format MP3/JPEG CDs.
As an anti-piracy measure, the DV-C6760 performs its own decoding of both DVD-Audio and SACD signals, passing high-resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. This means you'll need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog-audio inputs to appreciate multichannel DVD-A and SACD releases.
A set of stereo and a set of multichannel analog-audio outputs route audio from DVD-A/SACD media as well as from Dolby Digital- and DTS-encoded DVDs to your AV receiver. If you're not planning to use the DVD-A/SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for simpler connection with your receiver.
Other features include 4-step multiple zoom (1x, 2x, 4x and 8x), onscreen menu icons, and 2-channel stereo mixdown for all surround formats (in case you're listening in stereo rather than in surround).
What's in the Box

Quiet, Stylish, and feature-rich!,

I just got this player as a package with my receiver to replace my aging 3-disc Apex carousel that does not do well with DVD+Rs. First impression, love this player! It looks great, and has a ton of nice "little" things that really make a difference, like gold plating on all of the RCA connections (and man, does it have a lot of them), smooth seeking in DVDs, quiet operation, PlayXChange that sucks up the disc you're playing and allows you to access all 5 disc slots, etc. It also shuffles across discs, which my old player did not do. It must be a toss-up whether this thing is called a 6760SL or a 6761, because I've seen it both ways. It also plays Divx files, which might be a huge seller for some folks out there (I have a DVD burner, I don't foresee using that functionality).
I will update if I find any other interesting things, love it so far! EDIT 1/6/2006: Still very pleased with this player. Shuffle function works well, and playback of mp3 DVD disks works great (though there are some random little decoding errors that I hear as brief digitizations, doesn't happen with music CDs, but they're rare and not very distracting when they do occur). There is also a nice Explorer view for the mp3 disks and a nifty EQ at the upper right, so you can leave your TV on and it'll show both the EQ responding to the music and display the song title and the rest of the ID3 tag information. However, even if you shut the TV off, the song title, album title, and artist all scroll across the front panel display.

I like its sleek design. It's a lttle slow changing discs, and the tray is large, but so far it seems to work fine.

Ever since I discovered this player in the summer of 2005, I have been highly impressed with how much it met both my normal and oddball demands. As a student of Musical Theatre, Opera, Classical vocal and choral literature, and Jazz and Classical piano, SACD capability is of great importance to me because there are a lot of titles especially in the Classical genre available in this format. One thing that sets this player apart from the other manufacturers' players is Yamaha's CD UpSampling feature. For those titles which are currently only available on CD and possibly will never be released on DVD-AUDIO and/or SACD, this option converts standard CDs to the quality of DVD-AUDIO. On the Musical Theatre, Opera, and choral side of things, this player is capable of playing both NTSC (North American) and PAL (European) DVDs on corresponding as well as opposite TVs. For certain titles in these genres, the North American editions are either four percent slower in tempo and picture movement and flatter in pitch than the European editions due to the method of PAL-to-NTSC conversion used by the distributors of such DVDs, or do not include as many bonus features as their original European counterparts. Sometimes, it can be the other way around, except the European editions might be four percent faster and sharper and have less bonus material than their original North American counterparts. On both ends of the spectrum, if the audio pitch is corrected without changing the audio speed to keep the picture and sound in synch, a subaudible breaking-up effect may be noticed as the result of slight artifacts from slightly bending or stretching the pitch in the conversion process. However, because of this player's bicompatibility with both color systems, I have the freedom to choose and purchase whatever editions are the best. Although it is not in the manual, this player can be made multi-region compatible including RCE DVDs. Turn on the DVD player. Make sure there are no discs loaded. With the tray open, using its supplied remote control, slowly press 99990. Wait for the 'Region 0' message to disappear. Close the tray. Now you can play any kind of optical disc without thinking about it. In conclusion, if you are looking for a DVD player with wide compatibility, you have come to the right place!
