Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The factory-reconditioned single-disc DV-S5750 lets you watch DVDs, listen to CDs and even view digital photos right on your TV. It also plays DivX-formatted movies that you burn to discs--allowing you to burn up to 5 full movies on DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

With its high-resolution filter the 10-bit video D/A converter delivers faster video signal processing for enhanced picture quality, minimizing digital artifacts. It also offers 24-bit/96kHz PCM audio compatibility for excellent audio playback. The parallel audio/video output lets you connect the DVD player via Composite, S-Video and/or Component Video and Audio outputs, to watch and listen simultaneously from each connected device. This feature is ideal for multi-room applications and facilitates connection of your DVD-Video player.

Audio enhancements consist of an audio-direct switch and CD upsampling playback (to an incredible 1,764 kHz) to give you the best-possible sound quality from your standard audio CDs. MP3 features include the ability to play multisession discs and mixed-format MP3/JPEG CDs. It's also compatible with WMA audio.

Other features include:

  • Multiangle (9), multiaspect and multisubtitle capabilities
  • Child lock function (DVD and VCD) and parental lock function (DVD only) to prevent children from seeing unwanted material
  • Digital picture zoom lets you select an area of the picture and magnify it, or increase the viewable screen area for letterbox films
  • 5-disc memory
  • Program play, sleep functions, CD Text display, screen saver
  • Outputs: 1 coaxial digital audio, 1 composite video, 1 S-video, 1 component video, 1 optical digital audio, 1 RCA audio (L/R)
  • 12 on-screen display languages

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong with the Yamaha DV-S5750, October 6, 2005

There aren't a lot of reviews out there for this player so I thought I would write one based on the my experience during the last couple of months. First of all there is nothing that hasn't played on this unit since I bought it and that includes multiple DivX formats, DVD's that my old player wouldn't play, etc. It also appears that the picture quality is actually improved making lower quality video like DivX look better than it is. I have not experienced syncing problems with audio or glitches in the video. All controls are easily adjusted via on-screen menus and therefore the face of the unit remains clean and basic. The sound quality of CD's is incredible using quality components to accompany it. I use a digital connection and have yet to try the upsampling function for analog sources. The bottom line is although you can buy cheaper DVD players that provide the same functions as this unit, in my research, you can'not get a better buy on a quality unit with solid components that are assured to last, and provide quality video and sound. Very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing fancy, but flawless for what it does., March 9, 2006

Sold my progressive scan PS2 that I used for DVD/CD playback and replaced it with this. Wow. WOW. Wow. I am cynical when it comes to product reviews regarding increased picture & sound quality simply by changing any particular component but no more.
VIDEO - hooked up via component (mid-priced cables) to my Toshiba 34HF85 CRT & set to progressive scan. Put on Return of the King EE.....And? The closest to film quality I've ever seen. Smooth, warm, no jaggies, no macroblocking or video noise to speak of. Elegant is not an odd word to describe the picture quality.
AUDIO - Even better results than the video. Using a mid-priced optical cable to my older Yamaha DTS receiver & playing several audio CDs I'm hearing increased sonic details in songs that I have never heard before. Again, words such as elegant, warm, vibrant, smooth, NATURAL are all choice words to describe the quality of sound. It's not a cold, nor digital/processed sound but more closer to, well REAL.
I have and always will be a huge fan of Yamaha products. There's no showing off with smokes & mirrors; no extraneous bells and whistles that most people even really need. Their prices may be a bit higher but you get what you pay for; the most accurate, natural warm sound & vision from machines that are digital, cold & processed; all 1 & 0s. What it's giving is something closer to us, REAL. And it is worth every cold penny. Highly Recommended.
P.S. - Make sure you keep the Black Level set to ON in the setup menu. It works.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything except SACD, May 17, 2006

This review is from: Yamaha DVD5750 Progressive Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Ever since I discovered this player in the summer of 2005, I have been highly impressed with how much it met both my normal and oddball demands. As a student of Musical Theatre, Opera, Classical vocal and choral literature, and Jazz and Classical piano, DVD-AUDIO capability is of great importance to me because there are a lot of titles especially in the Classical genre available in this format. One thing that sets this player apart from the other manufacturers' players is Yamaha's CD UpSampling feature. For those titles which are currently only available on CD and possibly will never be released on DVD-AUDIO and/or SACD, this option converts standard CDs to the quality of DVD-AUDIO. On the Musical Theatre, Opera, and choral side of things, this player is capable of playing both NTSC (North American) and PAL (European) DVDs on corresponding as well as opposite TVs. For certain titles in these genres, the North American editions are either four percent slower in tempo and picture movement and flatter in pitch than the European editions due to the method of PAL-to-NTSC conversion used by the distributors of such DVDs, or do not include as many bonus features as their original European counterparts. Sometimes, it can be the other way around, except the European editions might be four percent faster and sharper and have less bonus material than their original North American counterparts. On both ends of the spectrum, if the audio pitch is corrected without changing the audio speed to keep the picture and sound in synch, a subaudible breaking-up effect may be noticed as the result of slight artifacts from slightly bending or stretching the pitch in the conversion process. However, because of this player's bicompatibility with both color systems, I have the freedom to choose and purchase whatever editions are the best. Although it is not in the manual, this player can be made multi-region compatible including RCE DVDs. Turn on the DVD player. Make sure there are no discs loaded. With the tray open, using its supplied remote control, slowly press 99990. Wait for the 'Region 0' message to disappear. Close the tray. In conclusion, if you are looking for a DVD player with wide compatibility, you have come to the right place!
