I uncrated my new generator, filled the battery with the supplied electrolyte, filled the crankcase with oil, added some gas and turned the key. Started very easily and was amazed at how quiet it was running. 12 hp engines arent usually quiet. Plugged in a fan and a air compressor to test it out. I was expecting it to rev up or make more noise, it never even winced. My central a/c kicked on about forty feet away and was louder than this geneator with me standing next to it. Yamaha nailed this one, I am very happy with it.

cons: heavy 194 lbs ( but rolls very easily )
no 12v output connection ( would be nice, but not a deal breaker for me )
remote start should be standard on this model not an added option
expensive ( If you want quiet its gonna cost )
shipping : was free, but the freight company ran the forks through the box, covered it up with packing tape. cracked the rear housing just below both handles. If it didnt run so good I would have sent it back. I cant blame amazon for this so it still gets five stars.

This is one fantastic generator. Standing about 5 feet away while it's running, you can carry on a normal conversation. Cannot hear it from inside the house. I've powered two computer systems, a window AC, fridge and freezer at the same time, and it only lists two bars of power used, plenty to spare. Highly recommended. It's been running outside during heavy rain, no problems. Easy to maintain too, good 3 year warranty. Don't waste your money on junk, go with quality - either Honda or Yamaha. After researching for weeks, I went with Yamaha, and I'm glad I did. Regards, Brian. Here's my video: [...]

I installed a Reliance 10 circuit manual transfer panel with exterior power inlet box that I use to connect the Yamaha to my house electric panel. Works like a charm and is pretty darned quiet for a generator which is what I needed in my townhouse situation. I sent the carburetor to US Carburetion for a tri-fuel conversion and teed off the existing exterior natural gas line for my BBQ grill to run to the generator. No trips to the gas station during outages and a theoretically unlimited supply. Very happy with my setup. Let PEPCO do its worst!

I think this EF4500ise is going to be a great generator. I have had a Yamaha EF2400is generator for 6 years (has 350 hours on it now) but I needed a little more oomph (watts). So far I put just one hour on EF4500ise to test it out and immediately noticed it is quieter than the already very quiet EF2400is. Although the dB rating is similar to the EF2400 I find this EF4500ise sounds even quieter to the human ear because it runs at a constant and much slower RPM than the EF2400is. I tested it with two 1500watt house heaters and it barely changed the exhaust note even when I kicked both on simultaneously, which spiked a handheld load meter to 4400 Watts for a couple of seconds before settling down to 2800 Watts. The built in power meter has 10 bars to show the power used and seems very accurate compared with my load meter with each bar being about 430 watts. The wheels are nice and heavy duty but do not swivel. The bottom wheel axles also serve as comfortable handles and are handy when loading/unloading this generator. Loading and lifting this is definitely a two man job (200 pounds). I only have two minor critsms: 1: I wish it had a pull start to back-up the electric start and 2: I don't like the location of the battery. The battery is located right next to exposed electronics and is mounted in a spot that could bump the electronic board if the user is not careful when installing/uninstalling the battery. The 357cc motor in this generator is also used in Yamaha golf carts so you know it will run a long time. Everything about this generator seems up to Yamaha's high quality and engineering standards. Just remember this unit only does 120 volts.
P.S. I always recommend changing the oil after the 1st hour of use on non-oil filter motors like this one.
