THE YAMAHA FG SERIES

Since it was introduced in the 1960’s, the Yamaha FG has been recognized as simply the best acoustic guitar in its league. Millions of guitarists recall the part an FG has played in their playing career. The FG is a perfect example of Yamaha’s unique combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern guitar-building techniques. Everything focuses on the same goal: an outstanding playing experience, and the great tone that’s made FG the choice of some of the greatest players in history. Now, the greatest players of the future are choosing it too.

A Living Legend

Around for more than 40 years now, the FG Series offers outstanding quality with features like non-scalloped X-bracing and reverse-L neck block. Solid tops provide excellent performance and quality, delivering the clear sound characteristic of the FG series. All in all, an excellent instrument truly enjoyable to play.

Dovetail Neck Joint:

The joint between body and neck is essential to an acoustic guitar, not just for physical stability but also for sound. The efficient transfer of vibrations from neck to body is crucial in creating a full and balanced tone. All Yamaha acoustic guitars feature a hand-fitted dovetail neck joint. The precisely crafted joint uses no metal parts and gives the guitar the best neck-to-body contact for outstanding tone along with incredibly strength and stability.

Thin Finish:

All Yamaha FG guitars feature our signature ultra-thin finish. The perfect combination of advanced finish technology and artisan hand-spraying techniques ensures the rich, high-gloss finish on FG models is around 0.25 mm thin. It provides the minimum restriction of vibrations of the wood, and a louder, fuller tone while remaining incredibly strong and resilient.

  • Solid Sitka Spruce Top
  • Reverse-L Neck Block
  • Non-Scalloped X-Bracing
  • Diecast Chrome Tuners

  • Mahogany Back and Sides
Bracing Pattern:

The main purpose of bracing on an acoustic guitar is to strengthen the top against the tension of the strings. Also, by modifying the vibrations of the guitar’s top, the bracing also serves to create the guitar’s tonal signature. Yamaha’s FG guitars use a non-scalloped X-bracing design with each of the eight braces carefully positioned to tailor the guitar’s sound. They perfectly complement the tone woods used in order to create the FG’s unmistakable combination of clear and balanced tone with incredible control. The use of non-scalloped bracing ensures your FG will retain its tone, response, and stability for a lifetime of playing.

I didn't buy this product from amazon so I have nothing to share about the quality of shipment, BUT...

... I went out to plenty guitar stores looking for a guitar in the price range below $500. After almost giving up on the mission of buying a guitar which suits my budget and sounds the way a steel string guitar should sound like. After trying many guitars this beauty was the ONLY one which met my expectations and fully satisfied my very critical ears.
I have this guitar for two years now and I am as happy as I was the day I left the store with it. I have really good guitar playing friends who all love my guitar. The way the neck feels, the way it sounds... for the prize amazon offers the guitar right now you can't go wrong. I don't know of any other guitar which is of better quality in this price range.

Clearly, this is no Gibson, but it is for beginners who want a guitar which makes them happy for a long time without becoming frustrated with a low-quality guitar, but also for immediate players who want a good guitar they can afford and even for the advanced as a backup to leave the house with without getting nervous about having an expensive guitar in the trunk for a while or such

It's a beauty and even better: it sounds like one

This guitar can keep up the the most expensive guitars on the market. The fret board has comfy action and is not to thick. The sound is that of a 3000.00 dollar big named pocket killer. As it ages expect the sound to get richer. This is my second in the past 18 years. I lost my first one to theft. You will be very happy once you buy this.

Great great guitar, I've purchased 3 grand martin, took 6 months to get, arrived with cracked bridge, owned 3 Taylor's , better, but over priced, for what I paid with this yamaha, I'm laughing all the way to the bank. Arrived flawless, set up very well, sounds wonderful, neck profile is comparable to a martin P , thin tapper, extremely comfortable, 1 11/16 nut, 25 9/16 scale. Gloss top, neck, but very slick, easy easy to play. Yes, it's Chinese made, prefer to buy American, but no longer. I'm sold. Great guitar for the money, a no brainer, I'm 58 ..I know value. This is value.

I am very pleased with all aspects of this instrument. The quality workmanship is superb for a guitar in this price range. I had to do minor adjustments to the string action to get it to the feel I prefer, which entailed tightening the truss rod ever so slightly. Typically guitars are shipped with minimal stress on the truss rod. If you are not sure how to do this minor adjustment you can find many tutorials on utube that are very helpful. The guitar does come with an allen wrench to do the job. The sound is great, and it stays in tune. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran you cannot go wrong with this quality instrument. I hope this was helpful.

I bought this guitar from a local music shop 4 months ago. I walked in the music shop looking for a Martin, I ended up picking up this guitar for $300, it was absolutely worth it! The tone that is delivered with this model far surpasses all other guitars i have played in the $700 or less price range. There were no issues with it, it played very well directly out of the box, the action was set up perfectly. I can highly recommend buying this guitar if you are a beginner looking to upgrade to a better guitar without emptying your bank account. You will not regret this purchase!

I've owned this guitar for nearly six years, and I can't express how instrumental it was in learning the instrument. As a lefty, my options were somewhat limited in this price range; the Fender and Ibanez models felt and sounded cheap, and the nicer guitars were nearly double in cost. I had no intention of even considering a Yamaha (in my eyes, they manufactured everything from keyboards to motorcycles - so what could they know about an acoustic guitar?), but I'm glad Guitar Center's selection of left-handed guitars was so limited at the time. As soon as I took it off the wall and held it in both hands, I knew this was of greater quality than the like-priced competition. I sat for a minute and strummed the few chords I knew and I was sold!

Now, as I've just ordered my first Les Paul, I hope it will be as awesome as this Yamaha is. I've played with several right-handed models from other brands, and I completely believe the quality of this guitar is better, brighter, and has more tone than those models, at half the cost. The greatest thing about this guitar is that you're not paying for the branding, but receiving a ton of quality for your money. In fact, the cost of a new FG720SL is the same exact price which I payed for it six years ago. I'm proud to find that it has retained its value, because I would certainly pay this amount today.

I didn't buy mine online either but I've bought an acoustic bass online before, and I was just fine. First of all, yamaha guitars are all built the same, by people, wether it's a under $200 guitar or a $1000 guitar. Miine is either an '01,'10, or 2011. The serial numbers repeat every few years so it is difficult to tell what year it is. I got my 720s used at the local store for $240. Guitar is in mindt condition just a few very minor dents on the neck from roughly string it down, but you don't know they're there unless you examine the neck. It sounds better than guitars costing $100s more and it plays great, no dead frets or buzzing. The tunic machines are sealed and have a smooth gear ratio. It has a light body and a nice comfy and soft fretboard. An amazing guitar for the money. Can't go wrong with a decent yamaha. Very versital to. Bluegrass, folk, alternative, classical, and even heavy metal. Just pick your favorite strings and boom! You won't hear better for the price.
