5.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar!, August 14, 2009
This review is from: Yamaha Gigmaker Electric Guitar Package - Black
This is one great guitar!

As a beginner, I cannot claim to know much about guitars, but I did do my research. Yamaha make great musical instruments and this guitar is recommended as a great beginner guitar by several places, including About. The package has everything you need to get started.

THE GOOD:
The guitar - One great instrument. The build feels solid and not at all cheap. The strings are close the the fret board which is great. The tuners are very smooth and feel good. The guitar also has 3 pickups and 5 positions which allow you to change up the sound of he guitar from rock to jazz. Basically, this is a really good guitar. And it has two nobs for volume and tone.
The Amplifier - This is a good beginner amplifier. It is small and has 15 watts. It has two channels: Clean and Dirty. Plenty nobs for us beginners to play with: gain, dirty volume, clean volume, treble, middle, bass. Also has a quarter inch headphone jack. Despite what majority might think, 15 watts is enough for just about anything you'll be doing. The 15 watts allows you to turn up the gain all the way up and keep the volume down and still have it sound good.
The electric tuner - a nice little add-on for beginners.
The DVD - great place as any to start. Goes over the basics and teaches several chords.
Other - comes with extra strings :)

THE BAD:
The guitar - none at all.
The Amp - the only bad thing with it (for what it is), is that the headphones jack is a 1/4 inch jack so most of us with 3.5mm standard headphone will either need to get new headphones or adapter to use it. But it is no big deal in my opinion.
The Guitar Cable - it is one cheap cable. Mine broke after 4 days. I also noticed that in the dvd that was provided, the instructor didn't use the cable that was provided but a monster cable, which I found to be funny. You can get a monster cable for pretty cheap here on Amazon, so again, nothing too serious. Order one when you order the guitar so you don't have to wait like I do.
The Guitar Strap - again pretty cheap. It is like one of those run of the mill nylon straps that you see. I am going to invest in a better one but this one will do for most. On a side note, and this is with all guitars. Invest in peg locks. They will prevent the strap from coming off the pegs on the guitar. When putting on my guitar the strap slipped off the peg, but luckily I was holding the guitar very firmly. Again, this is true for all guitars and not just this one.

Bottom line: Great guitar, great package, great buy. I am happy with it.

Great starter for beginner's, The 15 watt amp does a good job, The DVD is very informative. The only drawback is the cord, It is cheap and broke on me the second day, Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money on a better quality cord. The guitar it self is top notch, Yamaha has maintained there craftsmanship with this guitar. All in all a great price for a starter.

I'm glad I paid $100 less than what it is now, but if you look up the guitar you will find out that it sells for that much alone.

My son loves it. The guitar is nice, the amp is nice, the patch cords a little iffy, but they're easily replaced. Just a beautiful, great sounding guitar. Anyone into guitar would love to fool around with one of these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar, decent amp., September 20, 2010

I started out as a guitar player with this package back in January and haven't been disappointed in the least. Great sound, great price, can't actually complain about anything. My only (minor) knocks:

1. The strap that comes with the guitar broke after only a few days. One of the small plastic clips snapped. Since you're probably going to get a cool new strap anyway, it's not a huge deal.

2. The amp that comes with the package sounds fine until you upgrade. After nine months I bought a Marshall MG-30FX and was blown away by how good my guitar sounded. You get what you pay for, and the 15 watt amp that comes with this package is solid, but there are better products out there for when you're ready to move on.

Bottom line, neither one of those problems would have kept me from buying this package. You won't be disappointed.

I've been wanting to play the electric guitar for a while, but I was unsure about what accessories to get considering I was used to just playing with an acoustic. My choices were between the Fender Starcaster and the Yamaha Gigmaker. This package is $100.00 more than the Fender Starcaster, but I spent hours online looking through reviews and videos on reliability, sound quality, and ease of use. If you're looking for quality that rivals the Yamaha Gigmaker, I would definitely get the Fender package. It includes a few more accessories that I would have liked, but the Yamaha PAC012 has been on my mind for quite a while. If this is your first time playing guitar, you will not be disappointed with the quality of the Pacifica or the amplifier that comes with the package. The neck of the guitar is easy to wrap around, even for my ten year old sister. I just really love this guitar, and I hope I can continue to play it for years to come.

To my surprise, the tuner that comes with the package is great. I have yet to view the DVD that comes with the package, but I will update the review as I view it. The guitar case is very durable and thick, but it doesn't have padding. It works for me though. The guitar strap is durable, even for heavy usage. The extra set of strings are nice as well.

All in all, if you're beginning, this is a fantastic deal. I was willing to pay a little bit extra for quality, and it was more than worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Product for the Price, December 20, 2010

I was really surprised on the craftsmanship on this guitar because of the cheap price but the guitar is well built and the amp sounds great! I also have to give Kudos to ACE PHOTO for shipping this out to me. I am a soldier that returned from Afghanistan and I order this before I came home and it arrived before I was able to sign for it so it was returned to seller and when I contacted ACE they shipped it back out on their dollar and it came to me super fast. As for the sound my buddy plays guitar on weekends with a band and he made this Yamaha sound like a Les Paul! I know now if he can make it sound good some day after I learn I will make it sound the same. Came with everything you need to get started I mean everything to include picks. I agree with the strap on the other review it looks like the strap wont last long but this is my only complaint with the product and that is not even a problem now. This is the second "All in one" kit that I have bought over the past 4 years because I lost the other kit during my second deployment...dont ask lol and this one was better by a far shot and was the same price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really impressed, August 3, 2010

I'm not a guitar aficionado by any means - this is my first guitar. As an entry level instrument though it's great - it makes all the sounds, everything works, the knobs are all smooth to turn and have a smooth effect on the output, the tremolo mechanism works well. The amp has quite a hum when turned up to full gain, but I think that's normal. As others have said the cord sucks, be sure to buy a decent one seperately.

The amp that came with mine is 15W - I'm not sure if there are different versions of this kit, but the one that's written up on Yamaha's website says it's a 20W amp. Either way it's plenty loud enough to learn to play with, and easy to haul around. I had mine down at a camp fire plugged into the inverter in my truck just last night and it's hardly much more hassle than dragging out an accoustic.

The tuner it comes with is pretty handy too, although it's pretty cheap, it does the job. I haven't watched the DVD yet. What else... the strap works, but it's not very comfortable - I'd recommend buying a leather one.
