This review is from: Yamaha HTR-5650 6-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
I truly love this receiver. One of the things that initially attracted me to it was the 480 watts of power. I couldn't wait to take it home and see how my CD's and DVD's sounded on it. What amazed me was not only the really great bass responce, but the clearity. I watched my Phil Collins DVD and it was like I was actually there in front of the stage. For the first time I really feel like I now know how the artists truly sound. I can honestly say, I know I got my money's worth with this receiver! Thank you Yamaha! Jess

4.0 out of 5 stars Feature-Packed, Easy to Use, September 29, 2006
This review is from: Yamaha HTR-5650 6-Channel Digital Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
I've owned this receiver now for 4 years, and it's fantastic. I drive a $1500 speaker set with them, and for 80% of the max volume, it stays nice and clean. Of course, the volume is logrithmic, however a linear scale is also provided on the display.

As for the unit, I'm not a fan of the orange display, and the paint is actually pretty cheap on the faceplate (it'll scratch easily), and it's matte, where as the newer "liquid" look would be much nicer. Being a less powerful receiver, it's actually shorter than most. Also, the buttons have a very positive feel and seem like they will last a long time.

As for the features, WOW! It has tons of different modes like "Concert," and "Hallway," I however don't use these, they're kind of a gimmick. However it has a full fledged Dolby Surround-EX and DTS-ES, and 6.1ch processing for lesser channels. Unfortunately, there are no crossover reference points, or HDTV video upconverting for the other signals (only S-Video), but then again, this isn't a brand new $500 receiver.

Overall, this has great features, and sounds fantastic for anything less than deafening levels.
