Versatile, High-performance Connectivity

Versatile, High-performance Connectivity

The PRO 500 comes with two detachable, tangle-resistant flat cables: one in a 4 ft length with an in-line remote/mic, ideal for most mobile applications, and one in a 10 ft length for use in the home. Both cables are made from a material that is durable and designed to reduce "touch noise" transfer effects. The flat construction keeps the internal cores separated to minimize interference and terminates to a low-profile right-angle connector. The PRO 500 offers dual input/output ports, one on each earcup, providing flexible connectivity. A gold-plated ¼" adapter is included in the box for connecting to professional-grade audio equipment.

Control at Your Fingertips

Control at Your Fingertips

The 4 ft cable includes an in-line remote/microphone optimized for use with Apple iPod, iPhone and iPad devices. The "+" and "-" buttons control volume for both music and phone calls, while the center button allows you to play/pause music, skip to the next song, skip to the previous song, or answer/end phone calls. The controller buttons provide a tactile click-response, enabling intuitive operation without need for visual reference. For non-Apple devices, control behavior varies due to differences in applications and pin configurations.

Take Your Listening Room With You

Engineered to move you and keep you moving, the PRO 500 folds into a compact size for traveling. It also comes with a semi-rigid protective carrying case. Plug it in anywhere and escape to an auditory utopia.

Ok so this is the first time I have ever written a review for a product. This just goes to show you how satisfied I am with these headphones. I have owned several headphones such as the Sennheiser HD 650, Audio Technica ATH-M50, Bose QuietComfort 15, and Bowers & Wilkins P5 yet all of these did not seem to suit my tastes in terms of sound quality and design. Now let my move on and talk about my pros and cons for these headphones.

Let me first tell you about the pros of these headphones. When people sometimes are looking for a headphone they sometimes base their decisions on the bass. Let me first make it clear that these headphones are NOT bass monsters. Rather than getting and overpowering bass you instead get a deep and rich bass as though the song you are listening to is intended to. When you listen carefully you can really feel the deepness of the bass which is great. In regards to the overall sound quality, I would like to say that the lows and mids are excellent and as for the highs they are "strong" and distinct. Moving on to the design I have to say they are gorgeous and will attract the attention of onlookers which isn't a bad thing. The build of the headphones seem to be pretty sturdy all-around and are very comfortable. These are just a few of the pros so now let me move on to the cons.

The cons of these headphones are very minute. First the headphone are a little heavier than your average headphone but if you can overlook the slight heaviness you will be getting an excellent sound experience. The next thing I wanted to address is that these headphones are large. I have a large dome and they fit perfectly to the point that I do not have to adjust them at all. However if you have a small noggin these may be too big for you to fit.

The best portable Hi-End portable headphones, use only 23 Ohm of resistance - my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 drives those easy, no PowerAmp pre-amp boost is needed. I am comparing to 64 Ohm Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, where I have to boost PowerAmp pre-amp all the way to the top for headphone's soundstage to open up and expand, in other words, to achieve the full covered frequency range of headphones. Yamaha's 23 Ohm of resistance shows all the way - I keep the volume on my Samsung Galaxy S3 connected to Yamaha 500 PRO on the lowest volume level, next to silent - low impedance ensures full loud sound on the low volume level. While listening to Yamaha, PowerAmp pre-amp level is in the middle, bass boost off, treble boost off, equalizer off - the sound in Yams does not need no help. For my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro volume level is 5/8 up, and if I want loud bass, 3/4 up, with the pre-amp level all the way up and bass boost on. While breaking in the Yamahas, on 1/2 the volume I could hear headphones playing loud and clear from across the large living room, 12-15 feet away. 500 PRO are very loud (high sound output, powerful 50mm magnets) headphones.

With rich bass, wide stereo field, Yamaha PRO 500 sound is fantastic, coming in your ears, appear in your head out of nowhere - you don't feel "pointed-in-your-eardrums" sound of music, it is rather that wave after wave envelopes your eardrums, making you stop and listen, kinda like then you were a child and you wanted to hear what is coming next in your mother's bedtime story. 500 PROs are that good. Nice array of accessories, nice hard luxury-feel-emitting quality hard carrying case, 2 detachable cables (one 4 meter long for receiver and one shorter with remote for portables.

First let me say that this headphone originally hit the street for $399.
Now about the Yamaha Pro 500's sound.
Big, bold, full, detailed, and rich.
It DOES have extended bass, YES< but its generaly balanced with full mids and trebles.
Overall, sonically, the sound is dynamic and slightly warm, owing to its punched mids and extended bass response.
It has a wide soundstage and overall translates music heard through it = quite musical.
Its a $260 bargain.
This headphone offers just enough articulation to let you dissect the music, or, it allows you to just enjoy listening.
It has not been engineered to offer a "V" shaped EQ with scooped mids, therefore its not for treble heads or those who prefer the AKG 7 series sound.
Now, are there any real issues with it?
Yep, of course.
Its not the last word in comfort on your head.
Id rate it as below average in comfort as it is a bit too tight on the ears and its a bit heavy, tho nothing like the HIFi Man stuff. .
This is not a headphone that disappears when you wear it., however, other then this one negative caveat, this is a fine sounding gear for the money.

They are heavy on the head and are too big, I cannot adjust the headband any smaller so the ear cups rest all the weight on the top of my ears making them uncomfortable even for short periods of time. At first they squeezed too tightly as well but after a while of over stretching the band I was able to get them to soften up. The sound quality at least is amazing, worth the price for sound but very far off the price mark for comfort. Having amazing sound from headphones is pointless if you can't stand to wear them. I read in many reviews that comfort was an issue, but comfort is relative to the individual therefore I figured I would try them. These seemed to be designed for someone that has tall narrow head, if your head is shaped like Homer Simpson's then these are for you, but if you have a head like Stewie Griffin then find something else! It is apparent to me now, after reading other reviews and now owning a set, that these headphones were not designed with a variety of head shapes in mind.

As I stated previously, these sound amazing! You can hear every instrument and voice clearly and separately, it's not a jumbled mess of noise. The sound only improves when you use an amp (I own a Fiio E17) in conjunction with them, they love power. They seem to do well on blocking out external noise, but I have had comments from co-workers on sound leakage even at lower volumes but I think this is subjective to ambient noise in the area. I listen to a large variety of music, but so far my favorite jams on these headphones are: Styx-Come sail away & Queen-Bohemian rhapsody.
