5.0 out of 5 stars Great Music Stand at a Great Price!
I couldn't believe the quality of this music stand when I set it up for the first time. I saw flimsy ones in a local music store that sell for $30 and above. I went ahead with this one because I trust the quality of Yamaha products and I can gladly say I'm not disappointed. 3.0 out of 5 stars music doesn't stand
The stand itself is very nice. The stand part is stable and stands up well, but the music holder keeps falling backward even though it is adjusted as tight as it can be. It needs to be propped against something to hold a music book upright. It may be all right for just one page of music but I would not recommend it for anyone who needs to hold a booklet or music book. It...

I went ahead with this one because I trust the quality of Yamaha products and I can gladly say I'm not disappointed. My two kids take it everywhere in the house without any problem.

I bought this for my 9 year old for her guitar music. It is awesome, sturdy, comes with carry case and clips to hold music in place. The price was very good for the quality of this stand. Highly recommend theis one!

Nice stand, especially it's all in one piece! I agree with most reviewers that the music holder does not hold its position - adding a split washer fixes the problem.

I ordered the On Stage SM7122B and the Yamaha MS1000 black folding music stands at the same time. They are the same product, except for different adhesive labels (and different boxes, of course). The Yamaha was [...]but included a simple carrying case with velcro closure and strap. That may be worth $9.00 to someone, but not me. Perhaps the "Yamaha" name also adds to the market price of this product. The On Stage SM7122B was $7.99 without the case. Both qualified for free super-saver shipping.

The adjustment range is good, and both stands have been stable enough to retain a somewhat heavy three-ring binder full of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight Very Functional, September 24, 2010

I really love this stand. It packs down to a 2 foot sleeve that it comes in. The book holder folds down and into the stand.

This is a well engineered product, but what it is NOT is beefy. It's fairly petite/delicate in the materials (so you don't want anybody climbing on it), but it's engineered to be stable and portable - that's what it is. It's strong enough to serve it's purpose, but it's not a piece of furniture.

The bottom has 3 legs - I'd make sure one if facing directly back to counter the weight of material you place on it. Pay attention to the physics of things when you set it up.

The sheet music holder is really nice, has two spring loaded clips that hold sheets down. It is designed more for sheet music, and small books (100 or 200 pages??) - but, if you stick a Michener novel on here it's gonna topple. This is not made to hold a "volume" of works. (The shelf ledge for the music is 1 and 1/8 inches deep.)

The stand has 3 major adjustments and tightening knobs on it:

1. The legs at the bottom, how opened these are can be adjusted by sliding the collar up and down. The heavier the material, the wider the stance you'll want on these legs/standing points.

2. The height of the music sheets. This basically adjusts the head up and down. Combined with above adjustment, you can raise/lower the bottom of the sheet music from 22 inches to 48 inches. This is great for the seated, partially seated (bar stool leaning), and standing musician.

3. Tilt on the music sheets. This will come all the way forward - to the point where you can't see the front of your work, and back to about 30 degrees off the vertical (about as far as comfortable to read from if you were standing almost up against it).

Overall, the product is very versatile; add in complete ease with portability and it's pretty close to perfect. The one limitation is its' petite structure - so you can't put a tome on there - but with this kind of flexibility it would be unreasonable to expect that (without getting a 25 lb stand).

I've used portable music stands before - and this one is better than any I've ever used. Solid and easy to set up. Great value, it would be worth the money even withtout the very nice carry bag.

I like this stand due to its compact size once folded up for traveling.
When you travel around to perform you want something lightweight yet sturdy. This item fits those criteria.

1.0 out of 5 stars does not stand up to use, November 5, 2010

I purchased this music stand for my daughter and it broke in two after just a few uses. The bottom of the stand and the part that holds the book came apart and it would have to be welded back together. It is not worth returning, but I am very disappointed in the workmanship of this item and would not recommend it.

For something that cheap (cost) it's not so cheap (quality) at all. It's not like other flimsy music stands that cost up to $30 and bend with the twitch of a finger, this one is actually sturdy (for a music stand). It's not as portable as people seem to make it sound, but it's definitely still convenient to carry around with that carrying case. Not the best music stand, but hey for the price it's a good deal.
