Get your home theater system off to the right start with this pair of Yamaha NS-125F bass-reflex tower speakers. Designed with a tall, narrow profile specifically intended to complement flat-panel and plasma TVs, the speakers look and sound great, giving both movies and music the rich, full-bodied audio they deserve. Each speaker boasts dual 3.15-inch cone woofers and a 0.88-inch balanced dome tweeter, which combine to produce a 60 Hz to 35 kHz frequency response. Adding to the audio's efficiency are the luxurious black wood-finished cabinets, which include bass reflex ports that help increase and extend the bass performance. The end result is audio that sounds straight out of a commercial movie theater.

The speakers' power rating (40 watts nominal, 120 watts max) is best suited to moderate-sized rooms. For the best home theater performance, listeners should combine the NS-125Fs with the other speakers in Yamaha's 125 series, which includes similarly tuned bookshelf rear speakers and a center channel speaker. The speakers perform best on a sturdy, vibration-free surface at ear level on either side of the TV (the NS-125Fs are magnetically shielded to prevent video interference). As a final bonus, the speakers come with large, gold-plated binding post speaker terminals to ensure a high-quality signal transfer.

The speakers measure 9.3 by 41.3 by 9.3 inches (W x H x D) each and are covered by a two-year warranty.

Yamaha takes natural sound seriously and these speakers deliver the kind of fidelity for which you could expect to pay much more. That's not to say they can fairly compete with any high end system, but if you're not ready to lay out $1000, these speakers are entirely adequate and will get the job done for much less. One caveat: They're rated at 6 ohms impedance and are best complemented by a decent active subwoofer. 6 ohms doesn't seem like a big deal until you put power to them. Expect to drive them harder than speakers with 4 ohms impedance or less, but after that it's all good.

I did a lot of looking at reviews and spec's on a lot of speakers to replace my Altec Lansing floor speakers which have incredible sound, but all that blast power isn't needed anymore and I wanted something to go more with the HDTV rather than the CD's. These Yamaha's fit the bill. Good looking, small satellite stands fit the bill. Good timbre sound for voices and enough midrange to do the trick. Along with my subwoofer (should have with these) and small rear spkrs, why I am all set. Oh yeah, they look good w/the TV also. If you want better, if you have real high sound sense ( which 99.5 don't have), spend a couple grand each not $200 bucks. These are a good value.

These are awesome speakers. They have a very natural sound to them a project very well. All speakers being made now should be accompanied with a subwoofer though. I was used to the old style three way speakers that have 12 inch woofers. They didn't give you the real low end but it was enough for the small room I have these in. These do have a good mid range though, which is surprising for how small the speakers are.
