After researching online, I went to a local Electronics store to test different size speakers. All of the smaller ones did not have a full sound, especially turned up loud. The only speakers that sounded good had 6.5" speakers and dual tweeters. They were also $300 to $400 each. I found these on the Yamaha Website and Amazon had the best price. Though not the same brand in store I bought them based on the speaker sizes. They are installed and blasting. I am 100% satisfied with these speakers and recommend them for exterior patio use.

These Yamaha speakers play loud and clean. Presently, they are doing duty at a full service car wash where they are heard 9 hours a day, 6 days a week at loud volumes. Couldn't be more pleased with their sound although a subwoofer would make them even better.

I have 2 in the garage, 2 in the workout room, and 6 more outside above 2 patios and a deck. I am getting 2 more for another patio out front. These are great speakers, in addition to being outdoor proof.

Nice Boat Speakers,

I purchaced these speakers for my cabin cruser. The features I liked were the large woofer and the 6 ohm rating that allowed them to be used with the marine stereo, I'm satisfied with my purchace.
I listened to them at a local dealer who wanted $80 more for them and only had the display units in stock. The speaker boxes were large but I had already picked a good place to mount them. The sound is very nice, more base than I expected, the first speakers I've owned that I had to adjust the base tone down a little. They are a little lacking in the mid range and the dual tweaters are a little shrill. The EQ on the stereo and adjusting the placement helped. The 200 watt marine stereo has enough power to make them sound good but a good amplifer would be needed if you like loud music. I'm looking at the Yamaha aw350 to replace the speakers in the helm area.

I saw these speakers at my local warehouse store for much less than any other supplier. I spray painted them with gutter touch up paint to match my house and mounted them under cover, very close to our patio. Yamaha includes two protective paint covers and instructions to finalize the paint job. The paint job adds a lot of color/class to the install. The Yamaha system replaced two indoor 3 way Sony speakers that had to be stored during the winter. The 2 way Yamaha speakers are not quite the quality of the Sony units but can be placed closer to the patio so the bottom line is about the same sound quality. But, I don't have to remove and store the Yamaha's for the winter, an equitable trade off, will know better after next Winter.

I attached these speakers under the eaves of my house over my patio. I read a lot of good reviews for these speakers but these speakers sound even better than I expected. Great highs and decent base for outside. The brackets that came with them would not let me attach them were I wanted so I bought a pair of Definitive Pro mount 80 Articulating wall brackets and not only was able to put the speakers where I wanted them but now I can point them where I want the music directed to. If you get these mounts just make sure you tighten everything with tools and not only by hand so that the speakers stay where you want them. The toughest part was running the speaker wire from my AVR in the basement up to the attic and then outside. But well worth it since now you hardly notice the speakers or wires when outside. I can also control the receiver using my laptop, so I can select stations, playlists, and control volume all outside wirelessly. Just put these up today and took them on a couple hour test drive and so far couldn't be happier with them. Having a Memorial Day get together on Monday and will put it to the real test.

I bought these to replace my tiny, 5 year old, cheapo - $25 Zenith speakers that I bought at Odd Lots, which actually still worked and sounded pretty good. I searched and searched for "outdoor speakers'. Must have read a million reviews. Finally I settled on the Yamahas because of the name.
The Yamahas are twice the size, 6 times the cost, but unfortunately only marginally better. With a 6 ½" woofer I expected much more base and the duo tweeters sound tinny. They only come in white (I really wanted black) and the instructions have a section on "how to paint your speakers". Seems weird. I gave them a 3, but perhaps a 3.5 is more accurate. |
