I returned a more expensive, larger, Boston center speaker and purchased this instead. The Boston simply didn't have the sound quality to live up to the Boston reputation, and the Boston center speaker size was an issue for me too. I thought to have good sound I should use the largest center speaker (the most important speaker of the surround sound system) I could find from a name brand high quality speaker manufacturer. I have been proven wrong. This Yamaha (another high quality manufacturer) NS-C225 is small yet it has great sound. I'm very happy with the clear voice quality. It looks good and is a couple of inches lower than what I had before so it fits very nicely in front of my Sony XBR4 46" LCD on its factory stand. The Yamaha black and sliver design blends in nicely with the Sony TV too. I highly recommend this product.

Hearing New Things,

I recently purchased a home theater system which was pretty good, but somehow I sensed that it could be better.I noticed that the system lacked some high frequency crispness and sometimes movie dialog was not as discernable as one would hope for. Everyone knows that most of what you get from a movie soundtrack comes through the center channel speaker so I began to research center channel upgrades. I looked at a number of options, but considering performance, size ( I have limited space in front of my TV ) and price, I kept coming back to the Yamaha NS-C225. Finally I ordered it and I'm very glad I did. I'm hearing new things from familiar movies and cds. Subtle things in high frequency ranges have suddenly appeared. Dialog on movies are clear, easy to hear and have a "right-there-with-you" presence. I really like its appearance as well. It fits perfectly in the small space under the screen. Don't let its small profile fool you though. It's fully capable and you'll be hearing new things too.

My husband and I are very happy with our recent purchase of this center channel speaker. We can now understand the dialogue of all our programs and DVDs! The sound is realistic, bright, and has enough power to really compliment our surround sound system.

This Center Speaker is awesome! I was considering the JBL Venue Voice Center speaker, but after checking it out in person was really disappointed...the grill was ugly and it was made out of cheap plastic!! This baby is really compact with a nice black wood cabinet and nice silver front...overall a much nicer design that does not feel cheap!! It sounds nice too, replacing my Bose center channel speaker...which is nice but I wanted much more vibrant and fuller sound from my center...which the Yamaha supplies in spades!!! If I wanted to spend real money I would buy a KEF center, that's three times the price of this Yamaha which does all that I need...it really compliments my front Bose speakers! Buy it you will not be disappointed!

We purchased this speaker to replace an under performing center speaker that was part of our Sony 5+1 surround sound system. We have always felt that the center speaker was weak especially when we were watching movies; we had trouble hearing the dialog. This center speaker is definitely a step up from our previous unit, but it could be better. We now can hear the dialog more clearly, but the dynamic range could be better. All in all this unit is worth the price we paid and will be a welcome upgrade.

I have a raggedy bunch of equipment -- old Bose speakers, a subwoofer, a Hitachi hi-def Tv with a Sony a/v receiver - and aging ears. I couldn't get the dialogue of some of my favorite shows despite all the cool gear and a friend advised me that the center speaker was the key to it all. This unit ties it all together with perfect, crisp dialogue, and overall great sound. It looks great and is a perfect match for the silver Comcast Motorola cable box, the same length and with the dark gray grill cover in place it sits unobtrusively on top of it (I've put it up on a couple of empty cassette boxes to allow for the air to flow above the cable box). So it looks great, sounds great, and didn't break the bank either! very happy customer.

I was not satisfied with the way my center channel Bose (cube-satellite) speaker is delivering the sound quality I wanted to hear. My JVC receiver can produce a maximum of 130 watts per channel. Since the Bose can handle up to 200 watts, it was just okay. The center channel sound was worst when I used to have the Sony 100 watt/ch receiver. Recently, I decided to replace the Bose with this Yamaha speaker. It took me awhile to choose between Bose VCS10 and other brands. I ended up with the Yamaha NS C225, primarily due to the spec, size, and price. The 120 watt max power handling should match my receiver's, I mused. The cabinetry complements our furniture which my wife appreciated and completely forgot the not needed expense I just made. I also should mention the great reviews I read about this speaker.J&R expedited this delivery wonderfully. I ordered on a Saturday night and received the Yamaha on Tuesday P.M. 2 business days shipping time for free is unbeatable. Hail J&R and Amazon. When I was about to hook it up, that was when I noticed the 6-ohm nominal impedance on the speaker spec. I struggled to find my receiver's manual and found out it is 8 - 10 ohm impedance. Hmm, should I return or not? Maybe a 2-ohm difference will not give my receiver a trouble. I understand that more current will be required from the amp to deliver the necessary amount of voltage to power the center speaker. I said this would be a gamble, opened the package and hooked it up. The sound is wonderful. I can hear more sound effects. It is more dynamic than my cube Bose. The timbre difference is not so discernable. My wife and I are happy with it. It is just this teeny qualm about the impedance mismatch that bothers me once in a while. I hope I do not have to buy a new receiver soon. Anyone out there who is knowledgeable in electronics is free to express their comment.

Great Choice for your Center Channel,
By
This review is from: Yamaha NS-C225 2-Way Acoustic Suspension Center Channel Speaker (Electronics)
I've completed several DIY speaker and sub projects so I'm familiar with driver / speaker construction. The drivers on these appear to have a rubber surround - this is good b/c it's a very long-lasting material unlike foam. The drivers themselves appear to be of (very) high quality. I haven't examined the crossover network (the electronics within the speaker box) so I can't report on that. The cabinet is also of pleasing quality, nicely finished black wood grain, doesn't look cheap, and the compact size is a big plus because it is as unobtrusive as you could ask for and still get a quality sound. Speaking of sound - it's very nice. I use it for movies only and it was a welcome improvement over an old 80's center channel that lacked high frequencies and often made dialog difficult to follow. I made sure I owned this a while before I reviewed it, about a month and maybe 10 movies, got this unit on sale 5-08 but I'd buy it again at twice the price and possibly more.

I purchased this speaker to replace an under-performing PSB Alpha center channel speaker installed under my Plasma. Wow... you will not be disappointed with the clarity this speaker produces. Price is very nice too!

I bought the Yamaha NS-C225 Center speaker from J&R for $99 + free shipping. Great speaker - nice to look at, slim, sleek and small footprint compared to other center channels (which was what I wanted). Good and crisp dialogs. I can hear clearly and enjoy the movies more. You couldn't go wrong !!
