Save space in your listening room with this pair of Yamaha NS-IW660 speakers. Each easy-to-install unit mounts conveniently in the wall, where its minimal footprint doesn't keep it from delivering powerful, high-performance sound for both movies and music. The speakers are particularly suited to front or center channel applications in a surround sound system thanks to the versatile three-way driver design, which ensures that the lows, mids, and highs all receive ample attention. The 6.5-inch Kevlar cone woofer, for instance, reproduces frequencies as low as 50 Hz--a solid number for an in-wall speaker. The 1-inch titanium dome tweeter, meanwhile, ranges as high as 28 kHz, while the 1.62-inch aluminum dome midrange driver helps fill in all the spaces in between. The end result is warm, rich sound that transitions smoothly and seamlessly from bass-heavy passages to soaring vocal highs.

Yamaha uses only high-quality materials when building the drivers to ensure superb sound quality from any source. And should you need to re-orient your listening area for any reason, the NS-IW660s stand ready to accommodate your new setup. The speakers' tweeter and midrange drivers are built on adjustable swivels, so you can "aim" the high-frequency sounds toward the new listening position. To do so, simply press on the edge of the drivers until they reach the correct angle. You can also change the high-frequency level of the tweeter by using a "high-level" adjuster to suit your taste or the installation environment.

Finally, each speaker includes a high-capacity, customized crossover network (3.5 and 7 kHz) that helps minimize distortion and prevent the deterioration of transients as they pass through the network. And installation is straightforward thanks to the included cutout template, the paintable grilles and frames, and the gold-plated push-type speaker terminals. Note that proper installation requires such tools as a power drill, a drywall saw, wire strippers, a level, a Philips screwdriver, and a sturdy wire such as a coat hanger.

The speakers, which boast a power rating of 50 watts nominal and 150 watts maximum, measure 8.91 by 11.31 by 3.81 inches (W x H x D) each and require a mounting depth of 3.06 inches. The speakers are also backed by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

First of All let me say i received these speakers very fast and in great packaging. Upon opening the factory sealed box the speakers were packed laterally standing on there sides rather than flat. FIRST thing I did when examining the speakers was to loosen the wall retaining clips( PLEASE DO THIS FIRST, IF YOU DONT THEY WILL BREAK ON INSTALLATION). installation into the walls were as easy as i thought possible. I did stuff the walls with polyfill before the final securing of the speaker.

Sound= these things sound great! Frequency response is very wide ( from 20khz-down to about 65hz). Midbass is strong, highs are vibrant and audible without harshness. Crossover is huge, oversized, and built with quality( I have the high Fq set at a -2 and sound is well balanced.

Look= Speakers profile is not low at all, I would say its mid-profile. Since the grill has some 3-dimensional curves to it, I think it gives it a nice look and it compliments its surrounding. Once painted and fully finished these speakers look great.

Subwoofer? It really depends on your music taste. Speaking for my self, I think these speakers are good enough to give you the option to add a subwoofer or Not! They played extremely well on all music genres except Rap music.

With that said from my consumer point of view. Well worth the cost and the gamble on yamaha, a lesser known high-quality in wall speaker maker.

I installed the Yamaha NS-IW660 speakers about two months ago and I'm very satisfied with the product. They sound great and easily handle any volume level that I throw at them. Just in the last week, I upgraded my receiver and that made them sound even better so don't blame the speakers if you have a cheap receiver. My old receiver was 5.1 so I was using them for the rear channel but my new receiver is 7.1 so I am now using them for the side channels. The way the room is situated, they were better positioned for the side channel anyway. I now am using some speakers that came with my old receiver for the rear channel but I would like to get another set of the 660's for the rear eventually. They look great mounted in the wall. I painted them using a sponge paint brush and it was pretty time consuming but worth it. I had difficulty keeping the paint from filling in the holes in the grills but kept working on it and they turned out good. The directions recommend spraying the paint on and I do have a sprayer but it seemed like a pain to get the sprayer out just for that. If I get another pair though, I may spray them. We just built our house and moved in about six months prior so I had the wall paint available so the paint on the speakers matches the walls exactly. One the grills are in place they are somewhat difficult to remove. I used a corkscrew for opening a wine bottle and just hooked it one of the holes in the grill and it came off fairly easily that way.

I got Yamaha IW660 for the surrounding speakers of my home theater (23X12X7 F) in 7.1 set up last year. Building quality is very good. They look nice and heavier than I expected. With template supplied with package, installation was easy. Power listing for these speakers are 150 w maximum, which is higher than many speakers in the same class. Three way drivers is a bright point that make these speakers spacial. I was so supprised to hear such rich and clear highs from them, better than most of similar products. I hooked them up with a 7.1 Pioneer Elit VSX-21TXH that has 110 w in each channel, then cranked the volume up to the level that may cause physical discomfort. They handle it very well and no distortion found. I bought the first pair for side surrounding. Since they worked so well, I got the second pair for back surrounding. I did not expect too much bass from any in-wall speaker in a similar class. Yamaha has a reasonable one. For home theater, a good subwoof is a must any way.

In summary, IW660 is a great speaker with quality compatable with other high reputated in-wall speakers. As for price, it is a best buy, and there is no beat. I highly recommend it.
