Before I go further I should describe my guitar skills. I have been playing for 4-5 years (note: this first paragraph is an update, so this was my first guitar), self-taught, and consider myself pretty darn good.

I got mine for about the same price 4 or 5 years ago. Trust me- it's worth every penny. She hardly requires tuning, sounds great even with an amp that is made for a deaf man. She's also a beauty, and pictures don't do her justice. I play blues, rock, metal- this guitar is nearly as versatile as a Strat or a Les Paul. She's been through a lot of abuse and the wear doesn't show, so you know she can handle gigs. Great guitar for all levels of play, beginner to master shredder.
You won't regret your purchase.

Apparently, this is the lowest priced instrument in the line. Amazing. It is a very, very good instrument.

I bought mine used. It has replacement tuners, so this review doesn't address the tuners. Otherwise it is stock.

The neck feels terrific. A little narrower than the Fender Stratocaster and a slightly different shape. I have an American Std. Fender Stratocaster. I prefer the Yamaha neck. The Yamaha intonates as well as the Fender. The guitar is well built.

The Fender sounds better in the midrange, but a stock Fender can sound thin in the upper range. The Yamaha is also a bit thin up there (High E 12th fret and above), but it's thicker than the Fender.

The Fender sounds richer in the midrange when I compare the two side by side. Overall, the Fender is the better sounding guitar. But, the street price of the Fender is nearly 5 times higher.

So, it's not the best guitar in the world, but it is a terrific buy.

I would have no hesitation to gig with this guitar.

I am a novice guitar player and enjoy this guitar. Properly set up it, the intonation is very good and I like the tones I get get from it. As an acoustic player to start, I was surprise by how sensitive the guitar was to my finger pressure. It is easy to play with a light touch especially compared to acoustic guitars. I did not like the tremolo bar and decided to take it off and lock the tuning down. It is easy enough to inflect the notes by bending on the fretboard, and how much whammy bar stuff do you really need to do for most songs? It holds tune well, plays well, and for the price it is a good deal. I like the way it looks and expect it will hold up a very long time. My only complaints are that it is a sort of heavy and before the tremolo bar was removed, I had a hard time keeping it in tune.

Follow up to my own review a year later: This was my first electric guitar. I have owned and played several other guitars now, and my regard for this guitar keeps growing. - That is, until I bought some custom hand wound pick-ups (Dawgtown) and put them in a MIM strat. Before then, I liked this guitar better than the MIM strat. Now, when I play this guitar I find it wanting. But then, we are talking $400 plus vs about $100-200. I was lucky to buy this guitar as my first. Pros - 24 frets, light body (not heavy like I said before - now I know better), good quality neck and tuners. Cons - pick-ups could be better; just 1 volume and 1 tone knob; tremolo not great.

I had a Yamaha Pacifica in 1998 and loved it.
But lost it during a financial crisis.
Now, I have it back!
I'm amazed with Yamaha's musical products.
They are hi-tech and hi-quality.

This guitar is well designed and well build.
I like the aspect that the body is alder (think Stratocaster and Telecaster)
Really like the shaved areas that fit the human body.
Sound is bright, different from my other guitars.

Recommend for amateur/semi-pro music players.

I chose this guitar based on all the great reviews it gets and how it sounded on several utube videos.I am very pleased with how easy it is to play.Everything is set up perfect, just tuned it and started playing. It's amazing how many different sounds and tones this guitar can produce.I'm using a 20watt Peavey Vypyr1 amp, and it makes a superb combination.I thought I'd only be using the humbucker, but for many songs I prefer the single coil sound. So glad this guitar gives you the option to choose. The single coils, and humbucker are all very powerful.I keep my amp on vol. setting 1 and its very loud.So if your not sure what to buy for an electric guitar, this is one to consider.High quality, lightweight, versatile, and affordable.

I think Yamaha Pacifica 112v is the best inexpensive Strat-type guitar in the market. I find Pacifica 112V even better than mexican made strats. The bridge humbucker is pretty powerful and can be used for hard rock/metal tones with lots of distortion. The build quality is very good as well. Stays in tune for weeks!

The Yamaha Pacifica is an old stand-by for beginners, intermediates, and frugal guitarists. Yamaha took everything that works about the Strat, streamlined the overall design a bit, and added a humbucker in the bridge for good measure. It's basic, it works, it's cheap (especially secondhand), and reliable. Yamaha makes great stuff. You can't go wrong with this guitar, regardless of experience level.
