Extremely Satisfied,

This review is from: Yamaha RX-V361BL 500 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
Got this as a replacement for my Aiwa receiver, and even with the same speakers and subwoofer this system sounds better. It gives you a lot of options to optimeze sound according to the media you are using. Music, video games, action or dramatic movies, 2 channels, 5.1 channels, has DTS decoder. Has component video inputs and outputs, has optical and coaxial sound inputs. You can connect devices effortless into the front A/V, for example your video camara so you can see your newly shot home movies. The only thing it doesn't have is HDMI interface. Unlike other receivers instead of showing video 1, video 2, etc. It displays the inputs as DVD, CABLE, DVR etc. For under 200 dollars it will be tough to find a better receiver.

Fantastic Receiver for the price range.,
This review is from: Yamaha RX-V361BL 500 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
Having Just bought this to replace a Sony DAV home theater system, together with Yamaha NS P440 Speaker set provides fantastic sound for everything i could want. Great high and low sound depth when listening to movies i can hear everything crystal clear. It is fantastic to run all my products, PS3 sound, DVD player, CD player through the system. Easy to use remote control make it easy to chose different sound fields, and modes. Together with my speaker system i couldn't be more happy. Comparing to high end AV receivers will always show that this is an entry level home theater receiver for those on a budget. And it does a fantastic job at it too. It took me month of visiting audio shops to finally select this system, and I'm so glad i did. Remember this is an entry level Receiver, and replacing a high end system with it you will notice this fact, but for the price i doubt you'll find anything which comes close to the quality and feature set. I listened to many comparably priced receivers from Onkyo, Marantz, Denon and others, and none could match this in my opinion. Fantastic piece of equipment with great value. A great choice for those on a tight budget looking for an AV receiver to increase their enjoyment of all thing audio.

I own and run a pro recording studio for 20 years now - www.StudioUnicorn.net so here it is -combine this unit with the Yamaha NS-FP9500 Slim Line 6.1-Channel Speaker Package - use the extra speaker in parallel with the front or keep it as a spare - Amazing system - you will be thrilled ! ! !

Purchased this receiver from BestBuy, frankly this is one of the best receivers I have owned. The sound quality is very impressive. The built of the unit looks solid. The remote control is pretty user friendly. I use it with Klipsch 5.1 speaker system... awesome combination! I used the auto sound calibration function, it worked like a charm. Extremely happy with this purchase!

I was completely new to the big scary audio world before this purchase, but I've been very pleased with this receiver thus far. I chose this particular receiver for a few reasons: the price point is very good, Yamaha is a recognized name, and it seemed to have most of the connections that I thought I would use.I'm running a pair of 3-way Yamaha speakers and the receiver produces more than adequate power. I listen to a lot of NPR, Pandora, FM Radio, and movies and everything sounds great. If I were to find a gripe, and honestly, what review is complete without a complaint, I'm not too thrilled with the remote. I don't think it's very intuitive. Otherwise, I would recommend this receiver.

Yamaha RX-V361BL 500 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver I find receiver to work just fine in switching audio to DD from Pro-Logic or anyother switching needed. Menu and settings are quickly learned and much simpler than my past 2- Kenwood Receivers. Sound is percise with quite an adjustment range. Quite a piece of equipment for the price. I will buy Yamaha next time I upgrade.

Unit arrived at my home 10 days after order was placed. Receiver is new, was installed immediately and works great. I have not tried some of the functions. My speakers sound better.

Piece of crap,
This review is from: Yamaha RX-V361BL 500 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this thing because I did not notice the spec stating 100 watts rms @ 1khz and it was cheap. Come on 1 khz only tested not 20hz to 20khz. Distortes like crazy even at low volumes. I replaced it with a yamaha rx-497 and at 75 watts per channel rms 20hz to 20khz it blows the v-361 away in all aspects. All the features are bells and whistles on a crappy amp. I do admit I only wanted it for 2.1 stereo listening but wow too much distortion. It never clipped though, prolly because it distorts so badly all it is geared for is to outout power and not good sound. Junk IMO

A major downgrade,

I had been using a similarly priced Yamaha HTR series unit, and compared to that this is a piece of junk. The sound is extremely muddy and distorted at any level using analog or digital inputs. The remote has even less discrete buttons than the HTR unit making it a pain to operate (though the SCENE buttons do partially make up for this).I think I'll try a digital receiver at this price point instead. If that doesn't work out, I'll definitely pick up a Denon or another HTR.

US Version does not support 4 ohm speakers,

Amplifier seems pretty feeble for a 100 watt amplifier. Also, nowhere in Yamaha's specs for this product does it mention that this particular model does not support 4 ohm speakers. Tons of great features stuck on a gutless amp that just doesn't cut it as a 100 watt per channel amp, especially when compared to my HTR-5280 and RX-V1000 that are also 5.1 100 watt per channel receivers.Boo Yamaha. Shame. |
