Tivo Series 3 works for me,
By Donald J. Christie "DonC" (Las Vegas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yamaha RX-V565BL 630 Watt 7-Channel Home Theater Receiver (Electronics)
There are two model numbers for this AV Receiver as disclosed on CNET. One model number is the RX-V565BL, the other is the HTR-6250BL, which I purchased. At various times, the prices of the two vary on Amazon, so I just went with the cheaper one. I coupled the receiver with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 and was able to get two satellites on Ebay to complete a 7.1 speaker system. To round out the system I have the Mitsubishi DLP 73". I also have the PS3, xbox360 and Wii hooked up.
Unlike another reviewer who had a problem with his Tivo Series 3 with RX-V565 version of the receiver, I had no problem at all. If you have a problem with the HDMI, just use the Tivo component out and digital optical out direct into the Yamaha. It works perfectly. The biggest problem I had in hook up was my inability to connect the Wii directly through the Yamaha. I use the component video cable for the Wii. This Wii cable has two rca connectors for audio. There are two composite inputs on the Yamaha. One has a coaxial audio and the other has digital optical audio. There is no connection for composite video plus two rca female audio inputs. I ended up connecting the Wii output video straight to the tv, without the benefit of the 1080p upscaling of the Yamaha, and the audio only to the receiver. Because of this I can only give the receiver 4 stars. The sound from the system is very clear. I am still playing with all of its sound options and will update the review after I have more experience with the sound options. UPDATE I found this inexpensive work around for the Wii audio hookup on Amazon: RCA DT2AD 2-Way Signal Converter DT2AD. It allows conversion of the analog audio to digital audio.

If you have a Tivo HD Series 3, PASS on this Yamaha!,

Totally excited to find a Yamaha with 4 HDMI inputs on it, but I am now returning it.
I have a Tivo Series 3 HD that I am trying to use, and this receiver has a bug when changing TV channels on the tivo. The Dolby Digital signal drops from the tivo, and the receiver tries to re-autodetect it every time you change channel. The end result is a digital "Chirp" that plays over the speakers and is REALLY annoying. I have tried swapping the unit out for a new one, changing wires, changing wall plugs to eliminate ground issues, tried with my other Tivo that i own, etc. Its is a known issue on tivo community forums (search for digital cough) that plagued a lot of older models of Yamahas. Aparently this new model has the same issue. i called Yamaha, and they claim to have never heard of the issue. They suggested the unit was faulty and I exchange it. Replacement model did the same thing. I am now looking for a new brand and a new receiver. Very sad indeed. :(

Sorry, Jaffe. I just don't agree with your assessment and can't help but think that there must be other issues associated with your setup. I did not find this to be a mediocre device at all.
I was in the market for a current HDMI compatible A/V receiver. Like another reviewer before me, I too had an older Sony that ran hot and was built before the transition to true high definition audio and video. I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination and am generally happy and satisfied with very good, high quality stereo systems. I have the DirecTV HD Package, a Sony 46 inch 60Hz LCD 1080p television and a set of JBL Northridge 5.1 surround-sound speakers that my son got me a few years ago for father's day - bless you, Nick. It's not a state of the art system, but it both looks and sounds great. I just needed a new receiver. I looked at several "best sellers" here at Amazon.com and read through the specifications and reviews carefully. I had always liked the way Yamaha's Natural Sound amplifiers sounded and decided that now was the time to finally select one for my home system. So far, I am not at all disappointed with my selection. I was particularly impressed with the simple, sleek design and the ease of setup. If you too select this system, don't pass on their microphone assisted sound field setup, which even alerted me to an inadvertent out of phase wiring error I had made. I found that it's self-setup; based upon the layout and acoustic profile of my living room, produced an exceptional balance of high-, mid-, and low-frequencies with ample volume from the rears. All in all, I am thrilled with this addition to my home theater and as I mentioned, I thought it was a very good value for the affordable price.

I upgraded from a Sony STR-DE945 non HDMI receiver, to this new HDMI RX-V565BL Yamaha. The sound quality is every bit as good as the Sony and it runs half as hot as the Sony. Old Sony lasted 7 years until a relay on main board shorted out. Install was easy, set up of settings was some what confusing along with its remote control usage. Its display is also difficult to read at more than a few feet away. I am very pleased with this receiver after 45 days of usage. It is a good buy, and has all the spec's that I needed for upgrading to HDMI.I have Dishnet722 DVR, 61" Samsung DLP-750 and component Sony DVD and VCR, Sony satellite speaker system with Sub and extra center speaker I put in Kitchen. I was able to sync. surround and use the TV for center speakers. So I use TV speakers, and center speaker(behind TV), another center speaker in kitchen, 1- sub and 4 satellites. I put the additional center speaker behind TV so I can hear sound when I want to. EX. RADIO, CD when TV sound is off. This is handy to hit mute only once, if TV volume is off.
Update, well it is now 9-3-11 and I have not had one single issue with my Yamaha receiver. I still uphold my 5 star rating.

I recently had a Yamaha receiver, but was an old one with no HDMI hook ups nor did it have True HD and DTS HD. After purchasing this receiver without spending a fortune for a new one, this choice could not have been better. i actually expected less, but this receiver is awesome. I am a movie guy and watch movies regularly and the sound is just terrific. I would recommend this product to everyone.

This receiver is everything you want for a reasonable price. Set-up was easy and auto speaker set-up function worked great. The item was delivered earlier than estimated in perfect condition from Amazon. I highly recommend this receiver for all looking for quality at a reasonable price. Yamaha did not skimp on this model.

Very impressed with this receiver. We had to buy a new A/V receiver when our Sony ES started having issues--speakers going out and last thing was clicking when powering up. The Yam beats the heck out of the Sony. Speaker setup was easy. Individual settings for every speaker. I have a Sony 1080p HDTV and the Yamaha does an awesome job of upscaling the satellite--better than the TV. Sony needs to stay with what they do best--video and either leave the audio to other experts or outsource it.
I gave it 4 stars for ease of use because like other instruction manuals, it is lacking.

Bought this model(RX-V 565) to replace my Yamaha RX-V 465). I dropped my 465 and damaged the front panel area. My Yamaha dealer, after looking at the damage said it would be cheaper and faster just to replace it, I agreed and bought this one.I had issues with my old one and I now know why- update issue and not using the remote to set it up properly. With my new one it is up to date on firmware and I took the time to read the owners manual and use the remote.I found several things to properly set for proper operation, and what a difference from my old receiver! This set has all the inputs and features I was looking for. I did days of review reading and web site shopping before choosing both of my Yamaha receivers. Onykos ran hot,the Denons were expensive for me. I wanted a 5.1 receiver but for the same price this 7.1 unit is great. It does not get warm/hot and looks good too. Both of my past receivers(Sony,s) would go into protect mode, checked the speaker wires and nothing found. Got rid of them and bought the Yamaha,s and am pleased with my purchase's.

Great receiver but get the firmware if you use for HTPC,

This is a fantastic receiver for the price. It has just about every decoder that you could need, and plenty of HDMI inputs (4 of them). Great sound quality on this matched up with my Polk TSi100s and TSI C10 center, as well as the Polk R150 for the surrounds.
The only feature it does not have which it could use is multi-channel audio inputs. You will need to go up to the RX-V665 for that. But, if you are not trying to use an SACD player, you can probably survive on the 4 HDMIs. I have my Yamaha set up with an HTPC, Sony Blu-Ray, and DirecTV on a 32" 720P tv. I've upgraded the HTPC quite a bit and chose to add a top of the line sound card and decent video card, even though I had HDMI on the motherboard. In order to have the HDMI for video and optical out for audio, I had to use the 2nd HDMI in on my TV, which is not a great option since every other component is hooked up to the Yamaha receiver. There was no option to set different audio inputs to match with HDMI video inputs with the firmware out of the box. The firmware update on the Yamaha web site allows you to use HDMI4 and AV4 together by changing a few settings (instructions are included in the firmware download). In order to complete the firmware update, follow the instructions exactly as provided - especially on not using Windows Media to convert the wav to CD. It will not work, you must use other software (plenty of freeware available online). If you do not need to use different AV and HDMI for the same component, don't bother with the hassle. But if you have a set up like mine, it is well worth the trouble!

First, big fan of Yamaha. I've go this hooked up in no time. The speaker setup device is a snap. It worked great. This receiver isn't the most powerful, as I often have to crank it up to high levels, but I'm very please w/ the sound quality.
