7.2-channel Wi-Fi built-in network AV receiver supporting advanced features like AirPlay®, music streaming services, HTC Connect™ and Wireless Direct. The new Extra Bass function contributes to powerful sound, even with smaller speakers and speaker Zone B output expands the receiver's versatility.

Wi-Fi Built-in and Wireless Direct Compatible for Easy Set Up

Wi-Fi built-in capability allows wireless connection with your household wireless router, greatly simplifying system connections to enjoy network audio and music streaming services. If no Wi-Fi router is available, the unique Wireless Direct feature not only allows you to stream music directly from your smartphone or tablet via AV Controller App's Music Play feature, Apple AirPlay etc., but also control your receiver using the AV Controller App.

4K Ultra HD Pass-through for Super High Resolution Images

This AV receiver provides advanced HDMI features including pass-through of 4K Ultra HD, which is gaining popularity. 4K Ultra HD refers to four times the resolution of a 1080p display. This receiver is capable of passing the 4K Ultra HD data from the source to the monitor for image clarity far beyond present standards.

HDMI with 3D and Audio Return Channel

3D means the receiver can handle 3D signal data. The Audio Return Channel function enables data to be sent and received via the same HDMI cable so you can hear the sound from the TV via a single HDMI cable with no need for an extra optical cable.

HDMI CEC for Easy Operation

Another benefit of HDMI is the availability of CEC functionality*. When the unit is connected to a CEC compatible TV, it will turn on and off together with the TV and you can use the TV remote to control the volume. CEC also provides advanced functionality with other components. For example, you can use the receiver’s remote unit to control player functions like skip and stop.

*All connected devices must be HDMI CEC compatible. Some CEC compatible TVs/players may not work.

Discrete Amp Configuration for High Sound Quality

This AV receiver was designed with a strong focus on achieving exceptionally high sound clarity. It employs a discrete amp configuration and a low jitter PLL circuit, which contribute to its excellent audio performance.

Network Functions

This AV receiver provides a variety of network functions that enable you to access more sources and also enhance operation. You can connect the receiver to a PC to enjoy Internet radio, Pandora, Spotify and operate your system via WebBrowser Control. The AV Controller App (from iTunes® or Google play) lets you control various functions from your iPod®, iPhone®, iPad® or Android™ phones / tablets.

AirPlay Allows Streaming Music to AV Receiver

This AV receiver supports AirPlay, which means they can accept wireless music streaming from iPod Touch®, iPhone or iPad, as well as from iTunes on a Mac® or PC. This makes it easy to enjoy music from your mobile devices or computer on your home theater system. You can use view metadata such as song title, artist name as well as album art* via AV receiver's on-screen display.

*Some models don't support album art display.

Stream Millions of Songs with Spotify Connect

With the Spotify app on your smartphone, you've got instant access to millions of songs. And now you can stream those songs to your Yamaha system by using Spotify Connect. Just hit play to start streaming music. What's more, when you've been listening on your smartphone outside and come inside, the song immediately streams to your AVR—like magic, you enjoy uninterrupted music. You can also personalize playlists and receive phone calls while listening to music.

*The Spotify app and premium account are required. Visit for more details.

Try Spotify Premium for free on your Yamaha home entertainment System for 30 days.

HTC Connect for Wireless Streaming

HTC Connect lets you stream music to your AV receiver wirelessly. You don't need a separate app because HTC Connect is built right into your HTC phone. Simply swiping the HTC phone screen starts music output to the AV receiver, from the HTC device's local music sources or third party music sources.

AV Controller App for Easy, Convenient Operation

This AV receiver lets you use the Yamaha AV Controller app that is downloadable from the iTunes or Google Play to control power on / off and volume, select input and DSP modes and operate other functions from an iPhone or Android devices. You can also use in as many as 23* different languages and customize the interface by hiding unused icons and renaming functions. A tablet version is also available.

*As of spring 2014.

USB Digital Connection for iPod and iPhone on the Front Panel

A USB port on the front panel allows convenient connection of an iPod / iPhone, which also charges when connected. Because the digital signal from the iPod / iPhone is transmitted directly to the AV receiver, there is no signal loss or interference, so you enjoy the best possible sound quality. In addition, you can use the receiver’s remote control unit to operate the iPod / iPhone music playback functions.

Virtual CINEMA FRONT Provides Virtual 5-channel Surround Sound with High Quality and Resolution

With Virtual CINEMA FRONT, you will enjoy virtual 5-channel surround sound with higher quality and resolution by installing surround speakers at the front. You get more flexibility to arrange your speakers inside the room, along with easy enjoyment of high quality surround sound.

Extra Bass Provides Rich Bass Reproduction, Even with Small Speakers

Yamaha’s exclusive low-range enhancement technology delivers richer bass than you expect from the speaker size while maintaining good localization and sound balance even with compact front speakers. When a subwoofer is used, it improves the volume of the entire low range of the speaker system, not only the front speakers, but also enhancing the bass from the subwoofer. You'll enjoy video and music with sound that has exceptional power and presence.

YPAO™ Sound Optimization for Automatic Speaker Setup

YPAO analyzes the room acoustics and adjusts various audio parameters for optimum sound in just a few minutes. It's like having a professional installer calibrate your system.

HD Audio with CINEMA DSP 3D and Virtual Presence Speakers

CINEMA DSP 3D provides a wide, high and dense sound field. HD Audio format decoding lets you enjoy HD Audio sources. Virtual Presence Speakers deliver three-dimensional sound without actual use of presence speakers.

DSP Parameter Adjustment for Easy and Detailed Setting

This AV receiver is equipped with a variety of sound programs that utilize Yamaha's original DSP technology. They allow you to easily create sound fields like actual movie theaters or concert halls in your room and enjoy natural stereoscopic sound fields. Now you can use the AV Controller App to adjust DSP parameters to your preference to match the type of music / movie or the mood you want to achieve. There are two modes, basic and advanced, that you can choose according to the type of adjustments you want to do.

Gapless Playback Compatibility Allows Play without Interruption*

Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard.

* Compatible with WAV, FLAC and ALAC file formats, and input from USB / PC / NAS.

Compressed Music Enhancer

When music is encoded into a digitally compressed format like MP3, the frequency response suffers. Yamaha's Compressed Music Enhancer employs sophisticated digital signal processing using exclusive algorithms to restore what was lost, so the music always sounds the way it should.

Zone B output provides 2-channel sound in a second room

Zone B output capability allows the receiver to send 2-channel sound to a second zone, so the main zone now has 5-channel output. This means that users can enjoy stereo sound in a second room. The same source will play in both zones (cannot use two sources).

Total Purity Concept for the Finest Sound Quality

The Total Purity Concept, which Yamaha has been cultivating for many years, encompasses high drive amp technology, high purity preamplification, anti-vibration technology and independent pure power supplies. All models have a fully discrete power amplifier that helps to minimize distortion. They also adopt independent pure power supplies, allowing dedicated power supplies for the analog and digital circuitry to prevent digital noise from affecting analog circuitry. The anti-vibration heatsinks are designed to suppress vibration from transistors and sound pressure. Independent power supplies for the DACs are designed to further eliminate noise on certain models. Down to every detail, these AV receivers are designed with full emphasis on the highest possible sound quality.

Subwoofer Trim Control for Improved Sound Imaging

The Subwoofer Trim Control enhances the low frequencies by avoiding overlap with the front speaker output. This will result in a cleaner, more focused sound stage while providing a seamless frequency response. When subwoofer frequency overlap occurs in conventional systems, the overall sound is "pushed" toward the subwoofer. Subwoofer Trim Control takes care of this by separating the low subwoofer frequencies cleanly, thus stabilizing the front stage while providing a well-balanced enhanced bass sound.

SCENE for One-touch Start

Pressing a SCENE button powers on the AV receiver and selects the input source and DSP mode. You can reset the buttons for different sources by selecting a source and DSP mode, then pressing a SCENE button for more than three seconds.

ECO Mode Lowers Power Consumption by 20 Percent*

Yamaha's new ECO mode reduces power consumption by about 20 percent. It can be set from the top of the GUI menu.

*Compared to power consumption when ECO mode is off (Yamaha measurement).

Selectable Auto Power Down

Auto power down lets you save energy by selecting to turn off the power after two, four, eight or 12 hours.

I purchased this receiver to replace a long outdated, entry level Sony 5.1 receiver I bought back in 2008. My, my, how nice it is to be up with the times!

First off, let's talk about sound quality. Optimizing my speaker set up was trivially simple with the included mic and Yamaha's YPAO feature. My old receiver had a similar feature, but it took longer to run and did not seem to do nearly as good a job. Upon first listen, it was clear that the sound quality was markedly improved from my old receiver! The subwoofer seemed more balanced and harder to localize to my subwoofer and the overall sound levels and imaging were much improved.

Second, sound features. Purists (and most people with a good home theater set up) will probably prefer the "straight" sound option (no extra decoding/processing), which just sends audio through the channels it is intended to or perhaps even "direct" (purports to minimize circuitry and therefore noise in the audio). I've played around with some of the sound processing options, though, and they offer some fun ways to listen to your movies and music. And options are always great.

Third, network features. I'm glad I picked up this model with the included wireless capability; I have to say, I'm most pleased with how well the iPhone Yamaha app works with this receiver. Once I joined it to my network and set it up to receive network commands while off, I quite literally haven't touched the included physical remote since. I control everything seamlessly through my phone. I can power on/off, change inputs, adjust volume, change sound modes, and adjust almost every option right there from my phone.

Verified Purchase
I purchased this a few days ago to replace an Onkyo TX-NR609 that stopped outputting sound a few months ago, after just 2 years. I can't speak to the v577's long term reliability, but the sound quality and features are terrific.

The wifi is great and way more useful than I thought it would be, particularly if you are using Airplay. You can play songs from your iphone directly to the receiver, using the music player, itunes, pandora, and any other app that supports airplay. You can even set it so that the receiver will turn on and start playing if you stream a song to it from the phone. Great feature, and all the internet radio stations available through the wifi are a huge plus too. One thing you can't do (as far as I can tell) is stream video from your phone, for example from the youtube app, which would be nice.

Second, the Zone B feature is killer because it outputs audio from digital inputs as well, i.e. audio coming in through HDMI. Unlike other receivers with Zone 2 capability, this allows you to output any audio playing in Zone A to Zone B, including TV, cable and any other audio from digital or analog sources. This lets me use my kitchen speakers to listen to the cable TV when I'm cooking. With most receivers with Zone 2 capability, including my old Onkyo, Zone 2 can't be used for any inputs coming into the receiver with HDMI, so all you can really use it for is music (e.g. from radio, a usb source, or stream). The downside is that Zone B on the Yamaha has to be the same source as Zone A, which is not an issue for me. If your second zone is a patio or other area completely separated from the main zone, and all you want in the second zone is music and radio, get a receiver with an independent Zone 2.

Also, the remote and interface are way more user friendly than the Onkyo I had. Highly recommended if the feature set is right for you. Assuming this thing doesn't break down too quickly, I'll be sticking with Yamaha from now on.

I bought this to replace my Onkyo since I wanted a little more power - I read the power spec on the yamaha main page (same as what is posted on Amazon's description as well) and thought it would go well with my existing speakers

Upon turning it on at 80% volume I noticed a lot of distortion in the sound - made me go back to the spec to read the fine print - that is when I started noticing a lot of other numbers in the manual

I had come to assume that all manufacturers are rating their outputs at the spec of below 0.1% THD, 2-ch, RMS but it turns out that Yamaha and a few other manufacturers are in a race to claim who has the max power - and in the process, they are forced to quote numbers that would not apply in every-day listening - so watch out what you are buying and how much power you are really getting

The V577 might output a max 70W below 0.1% THD - compare this to my 10-year onkyo which can output 100W at below 0.08% THD - but Yamaha can claim power specs at 0.7% THD (read high distortion), 1 channel driven (mono went out of fashion 50 years back) - which would allow them to quote high power numbers like 115W

This is a great receiver. I already have a somewhat audiophile setup with original (UK) Audiolab amps, so I was not so much after great sound, but rather - convenience and good 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround. Well, I got all that and great sound too!
The most important things for me, when buying something like this:

1. Reliability. If the thing fails, to me it is useless, regardless of everything else. I like things that are bullet-proof. While not all Yamahas are bullet-proof these days (they used to be long time ago), this receiver seems to be. So far I have been using it for six months without a glitch.

2. IQ of the engineer who designed it. This one is in the "genius" territory. Everything I threw at it, it did it perfectly and with no need to sweat over question such as "Why is there no sound now???" It plays movies in surround that is awesome and can be decoded in million different ways, one can change the type of audio setup, it plays wav files from my USB stick, play CDs from CD player, I can adjust volume of individual channels, I can see everything I need to see on the big screen, or when not using the TV screen - the minimal info on the small display... Also, when I put in a Blu Ray disk, and turn on Yamaha receiver, the TV turns on automatically - they talk to each other! (and the TV is Sharp) If I use TV remote for volume, the Yamaha volume adjusts (provided the receiver is ON in the first place). I even use ARC so that when I watch my computer which is connected directly to TV I can still enjoy nice stereo sound from my computer. Connecting the computer to the receiver was not that smooth, had to re-start things too many times, so connecting directly to TV and then using ARC for sound was a much better choice with the same features.
