Product Description

Players of all levels will enjoy the precise, uniform intonation of the 20-Series recorders. The translucent recorders are the same fine quality you have come to depend on from Yamaha. Ease of play makes the 20-Series the perfect place to start. A three-piece recorder has several advantages: some people find three-piece recorders easier to clean; small adjustments for ease of fingering or intonation can be made to the foot joint; and if you have a group of children who like to play their recorders when they should be listening, you can have them take off the head joint to practice fingerings without making any noise. We recommend purchasing a cleaning rod - since these recorders are really translucent, you will want to keep them very clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great deal on a fun, good-quality recorder, August 16, 2004

This review is from: Yamaha YRS-20 Soprano Translucent Recorder with Baroque Fingering Translucent Pink
I've had one of these for more than a year now, and I take it with me wherever I go. There's nothing like an inexpensive plastic recorder for practicing wherever you happen to be. I keep it in my napsack and pull it out whenever I'm at a bus stop or I have to wait for any reason.

This recorder is the best sub-$10 recorder available. It's well-tuned (make sure you keep the head joint pulled out a couple millimeters for the best tuning), has a pleasant sound, and looks fantastic. I've gotten lots of comments on mine. The transparent pink plastic is always a conversation starter. And at such a low price as they're being offered here, how can you lose?

This is the recorder I always recommend to parents who want to get one for their young children. It's dishwasher safe (!) so if it gets gunked up with food or other crud, just pop it in the dishwasher and it's good as new. Ideally you should re-grease the joints with Yamaha recorder grease before reassembling if you do that, though. The only problem I have this this model of recorder is that it doesn't come with a thing of grease like the more expensive Yamahas.

One warning: some other manufacturers make transparent recorders. Don't be fooled! The Yamaha ones are the best available by far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, September 30, 2007

I got 2 of these for my daughters, as instruments go it is inexpensive and since I wasn't sure how interested they were in learning music thought this would be a good place to begin, and I was right. I already know how to read music so I picked up the basics pretty quickly and then was able to teach my daughter the fingering. My youngest quickly lost interest once she found out I wanted her to read the music. My oldest however played for a talent show, which made her really happy. It is good quality as far as an inexpensive models go, I like how it comes apart for easy cleaning, it's portable- my daughter even brought it with her on a girlscout overnight for a little campfire fun. It has been a really good first instrument.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really cute and very playable recorder, November 11, 2010

This is perfect if you want a soprano recorder that's unique and cute without spending much money. I think it makes a good starter recorder to learn on and to see if you're willing to put more money towards the hobby. But it's very playable - much *much* better than ones you'd find at Dollar General and similar stores ! It's also much prettier in person than I expected it to be. (see my customer pics !) I only (really really) wish that it included some kind of cleaning instrument. Because the recorder is see-through you can REALLY see how your spit builds up - and it does.. fast ! The chart that's included is very handy. All in all - I'm very pleased. :)
