This is a good practice recorder. We organize a recorder learners' group in a prison, and most of the players are novices, learning to read music as well as play an instrument for the first time. At home we own wooden recorders of different quality as well as two of the more expensive Yamaha plastic reorders. Translucent recorders are required in the prison. We have tried other plastic recorders and the Yamaha is the best for the price, perhaps the best translucent available altogether. While the tone does not equal a good wood, the scale is true, the top of the second octave is easily achievable, and the construction is more sturdy than other plastic instruments we have tried. One of our group, who recently traded in a different company's recorder for the Yamaha and who is an experienced musician, also is very pleased with the change. The beginners are excited to make music, and the more experienced players easily are able to play some of the more sophisticated music and have it sound fine.

I bought a dozen of these for Christmas to give to the children of our friends. Though every parent commented on the "music" they had to listen to, all thought it was a great gift. Best of all, every child loved it. Music always makes a great gift.

My son's 3rd grade class needed recorders for the upcoming semester's music class. We had the option to rent from the school but for the price here at Amazon I was able to purchase one. I feel better knowing that if he breaks or loses it (which is a good probablity with my 9 year old), that I can always come back to Amazon and order another one without breaking the bank. The recorder is a nice light green and could be used for either a boy or a girl. It comes with a plastic case to keep the recorder from getting lost or dirty. Overall I am very pleased...now if I had only ordered some ear plugs to go along with it- LOL!!

My daughter needed this in school. when i stumble upon amazon and saw how cheap it is. I grabed this little piece immediately. For the price nothing will beat this. perfect quality!

It is cheap, colorful and it works. Sound is great and what else do you want. My kids love it and I love it more, because in few weeks when their craze is over, I can chuck it out without feeling a dent in the pocket. Don't get me wrong, the quality of the product is excellent and the sound quality if comparable to many expensive models. I bought 6 of these so that kids do not fight when they have friends over. One for everyone.It is easy to clean and wash and keep it sanitized as well.

I got mine today... and I love how the sound doesn't deviate much from the original notes like my previous recorders did. It produces firm nice clear sounds. But mine is a little out of tune at F, and it sounds like F# when I play F. Other than that, it's a nice recorder.

Yamaha 20 series recorders have a nice sound, for the price. Great for kids or someone wanting to learn music. If your wanting to learn to play the recorder with out spending a lot this recorder is a good choice.

I purchased this last year for my then 4th grade son. He and his class were learning to play the recorder in Music and I thought this would be a great way for him to tell the difference between his and 20 other look alikes. Only the color is different, the durability and craftmanship are still the same great quality I have come to expect from yamaha.
