Safe choice for beginners,

I am an intermediate adult saxophone student, and started studying with a rental Yamaha YTS23 tenor sax Yamaha YTS23 Tenor Saxophone that came with a 4C mouthpiece. Suffice it to say, your mouthpiece has more to do with how your sax sounds that the horn itself! For the beginning student, it is difficult to try out mouthpieces unless you have a local music store that will allow you to test-drive different ones. If you or your student gets a chance to test-drive multiple mouthpieces, you will see that this is true. By the time I purchased my own horn, I had the chance to try out 6-8 several different mouthpieces and selected a different brand that worked better for me, but I am sure I will get other mouthpieces as I evolve as a player. Whether you use it for a short time, or keep it forever, the 4C is a good basic mouthpiece that worked for me and is a heck of a bargain for $20.

I took on Tenor Sax for Jazz Band, but the $2,000 rental instrument came with a horrid mouthpiece (yeah, it's ridiculous). It felt like I was blowing through a straw, and I could not get any dynamics out of it. But from the moment I put this mouthpiece on, it was so much better. Gives quite a rich tone and its nice and open; even vibrato is easier. For a $20 mouthpiece, this thing is stellar. I could get nothing out of the thing I used before, but now I can make the instrument speak. I'll be using this thing until its time for a professional mouthpiece.

I am a graduate of the US Army/Navy School of Music. That's was years ago...but I still play Sax, Clarinet and Flute. I also worked for the Ash Family and had the chance to tryout everything from Chinese to French. I have paid hundreds for fancy French Mouthpieces...and still have some. But a word to the wise this is a Great Mouthpiece. Just get a quality ligature...and some French Reeds, and your Tenor will talk like you've never heard it talk before. And you'll have an extra $100 in your pocket. No Disrespect to the French "Fancy" manufacturers...we Love you too!But in my opinion, this is the Best Mouthpiece you can buy for the price and way better than most that come with Student Instruments...Spend an extra $20.00 you'll be glad you did...

We purchased a used tenor sax that was in great shape but was squeaking, this did the trick! Definitely worth trying.

I bought this mouthpiece for my tenor that I had not played in just over a decade. Was very easy to play and as rusty as I was I think I sounded pretty good! Nice deep sound and happy I didn't get a more expensive model because this one worked great.
