I have no idea why every woodwind manufacturer packs perfectly good instruments with poor to sub-par mouthpieces. That has always been my experience and that's exactly what happened when switched from alto to soprano sax. I couldn't get one note to play until I upgraded to the Yamaha 4C. It does what it is supposed to do so five start for me.

I bought this product and it was perfect for my soprano saxophone. (yes, I know that the posting title says its for soprano saxophone). I had it for about a month and there are two small spots where my teeth go, So I dont know what the deal with that is though.

My daughter went from being completely frustrated with her soprano to sounding 100% better with fewer squeaks and sharp notes and is now loving it. Pair this mouthpiece with Vandoren reeds on a student grade soprano and it sounds like a better grade instrument. I have one happy, great sounding soprano sax player!!!

wouldn't be playing the soprano today if it wasn't for this investment, the stock mouthpiece was terrible kept blowing air through the instrument until i dropped this baby on, felt like had gotten my groove back.

This is the stock mouthpiece that comes with Yamaha soprano saxes. Yamaha doesn't include a lot of features on their student models, and this mouthpiece at first glance seems to fit the bill: polished plastic construction, generic measurements, minimal decorative features, nothing particularly remarkable. The sound that this mouthpiece gets is not what you'd expect from a stock mouthpiece, which is generic, unoffensive, lacking in any character.

This mouthpiece is almost a blank canvas in terms of sound. It's versatile. You can use jazz reeds for a bright sound with enough edge to satisfy most players. Classical reeds gets you a more generic sound, like a stock mouthpiece. For a more orchestral sound, I use Bb clarinet reeds.

Plays beautifully. Good standard, all-purpose mouthpiece for the occasional player or the 'doubler' (I'm an alto player primarily). As with all soprano saxophones, embouchure is most important in the upper register. If you can't get in tune, don't blame the instrument.

If you're looking for a professional level mouthpiece, move up to the 4CM or 5CM (they differ primarily in tip opening sizes).

This unit was purchased for my son's soprano sax. He's very pleased with its performance. Here's trusting it will have a long endurance since the one he had previously ( which came with the sax) lasted just about nine months.
