Great bang for the buck!,

This review is from: Yamaha YHT-393BL 5.1 Channel HTiB System (Each, Black) (Electronics)
When I saw this receiver in the store, and then looked at the price (when compared to other "comparable" systems), I assumed it was going to sound like a tin-can. I'm so glad I was wrong...!
The receiver itself has a wealth of features, bells, and whistles. If you will be listening to your iPod through the system, go ahead and spend the money on the dock. The sound quality is excellent and you can control the iPod via Yamaha's excellent remote. One of my favorite features (being a classical musician/pianist) is that you can choose a sound mode that makes your music sound as if it's being heard in two of the best concert halls in Europe (Munich/ der Musikverein in Vienna), and some famous/typical American venues (The Roxy Theatre, The Bottom Line, Chamber, Cellar Club, etc...). It's really a neat effect! I like that I can run all the HDMI signals from my DVD player, TV box, etc... through the receiver, so I never have to switch inputs on my TV, or run 10 different cords up behind the wall! The receiver does all the work of switching inputs-- you can even select a different audio input to pair with your HDMI signal just in case (like with a DVI to HDMI cable from your computer) there is a separate audio source. If I had to brag on just ONE thing about the system, It would be: The subwoofer. The speakers that come with the system give a clear upper range, but if you were relying on them for the bass frequencies, you'd return the whole system the same day you bought it. Enter: the subwoofer... This speaker can punch out the lowest lows, even at the lowest volumes. Don't let the size fool you, either! It will fill your whole room with great, booming, clear bass! To conclude this glowing review: If I were adding another TV in my den, I would buy another one of these systems to complete that home theatre as well! If you're looking for a great quality product that works and sounds even better than you'd expect, just hit the "Add to Cart" button now...

I cannot believe I was able to buy a surround sound system with so many amazing features for this low price! The speakers have a really nice design, and the receiver has so many audio modes. Good amount of inputs and it is very capable of superb quality HD sound. I am completely satisfied with this product, it was well worth the money.

I chose this receiver because it had the four HDMI inputs and I had a similar model for 6 years that served me well until one too many moves caused it to go out. This receiver has all of the functionality that I was looking for in a solid, but still affordable receiver.
The sound quality is great on movies and games, but I get a small amount of static when I watch TV on it. I believe that is caused by my cable box, but I have yet to diagnose that problem fully. I have an apartment, so 500 watts is more than enough to fill the room with great sound, and I'm not a picky sound person to start with. This receiver, for the money, is a great deal and doesn't need the frills of Netflix streaming, wireless speakers, etc.

Go and Buy This! Great deal for the price!,
This review is from: Yamaha YHT-393BL 5.1 Channel HTiB System (Each, Black) (Electronics)
I was originally looking for one of the Blu-ray HTIB systems for under $300 and the Best Buy rep steered me to this impressive sounding Home Theater system. While their was no Blu-ray player, the receiver was far superior to anything that came with a Blu-ray player. Better off spending on a separate Blu-ray player later. For the price, this system delivers a great sound and the powered sub sealed the deal. I was not impressed with the puny subwoofers that were on the Samsung Blu-ray HTIB that I was looking at. If you are on a budget and can't spend $600-$800 on a top quality HTIB, then this system is for you. Awesome deal!

I needed a 5.1 system for my spare TV. I already had a $2000.00(+) system on my main TV and definitely did not want to sink that much into another system. I'll make this short and to the point...
Pros - Cheap $$$ - Powered Sub - HDMI switching - No issues with PS3 hookup (See Onkyo reviews about PS3 problems) - Plug & Play (I will read the manual eventually but its not really needed) Cons - Speaker wire, its not enough and way to thin, (buy a 100' roll from Home Depot for about $25) Overall I have only had the system for a week but its worth the $$$. If your on a tight budget but want a decent system, this is the one.

I'm basically pleased with the unit. It does everything advertised and has more than enough punch for the average sized living room. Yes the wire is cheap, but adequate. I had to purchase more to reach all 4 corners. I guess the only two things that bug me are that my Sony Bravia remote doesn't like any of the codes for the unit. The best I can do with it is to turn the Yamaha off, but not back on. The other bug is the fact that you have to manually turn on and off the subwoofer unit with a push button on the backside of the woofer. The powered subwoofers in both my cars are controlled by the on/off switch on the master unit (my radio). How hard would this have been for Yamaha to include?

This setup is great! It has great sound from the high to the lows and the various in betweens. For the price tag it is the best you can possible get for your buck. The fact that everything runs into this system then one hdmi goes to the tv is so much hassle free. Put the tv on scource One and you can literal swicth from your game console to your cable hook up, then to your Bluray player for a great movie experience.
The Only downside is the cheap antena that they provide with the system to pick up am and fm radio. But the fact that it has radio function built into with all of the other stuff was amazing. I reccomend if you want to use this for the radio portion then invest in a better antenna but besides that one small flaw..... Phenomenal!

Excellent Speaker Receiver Package!,

This is the perfect package for a small to medium size room for Audio/Video equipment. I considered the Sony 3D Blu-ray Home Theater System Sony BDV-E770W Blu-ray Player Home Entertainment System [3D Compatible]which was a smaller form-factor and it had higher power output 1000 Watts vs 500 Watts. But after going to a few stores and listening to both of them the Yamaha had better base and an all around better sound. Also this Yamaha has a lot more features like the optional iPod dock, and more input options than the Sony I was considering at the same price point. I have it in a 1,100 sq foot condo and it sounds awesome. I highly recommend this package for the price.

Wow. The sound from this system is excellent. It was a replacement for a 10-year old system that died--and for the price is perfect for us. It's being used specifically as HD-TV sound support. Yes, the other more expensive systems may be better, but at 2x, 3x or 10x the price--not really. This system has great clarity. Thunderous bass capability. Good connectivity. And again for the price, we can't be more pleased. Perhaps the downside is there could've been more clear instructions on how to connect other components, but it was sufficient. Great Amazon value. Five stars!

I like the sound for a bedroom or smaller room. The receiver is quite big for some situations, but it works fine for me. The main problem I have with it is HDMI switching. My Westinghouse 42" LED TV does not seem to work with it using HDMI. It is probably a combination of the TV and the receiver. With an Xbox 360, the HDMI would not pass-through but would work directly to the TV. U-verse works mostly directly to the TV, but not through the receiver. I use component instead. If you need HDMI for sound and can't use the optical output, be careful.
