Offering a complete home theater sound system right out of the box, the Yamaha YHT-440 features the HTR-5640 receiver, 1 center-channel speaker, 1 subwoofer, and 5 two-way front/rear speakers. The main speaker has a 90-watt power output, while the subwoofer has 120 watts of power.

The HTR-5640 receiver has an AM/FM radio tuner, 6-channel amplification for high-quality sound, 24 surround programs with 41 variations, and advance YST active servo for expanded bass response. It features 1 optical, 1 coaxial, and 4 A/V inputs (no S-Video).

Other features include a universal remote that controls up to nine different types of components and compatibility with Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES Matrix 6.1, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS Neo: 6 decoding.

The Yamaha YHT-440 is a complete home theater system with a 6.1-channel receiver, a voice-matched speaker system (with two main speakers, three surround speakers, and a center speaker), and a powered subwoofer. The receiver features six-channel discrete amplification (90 watts x 6) to provide the cleanest sound possible on all channels, along with decoding for DTS-ES Discrete, Dolby Digital EX, and Dolby Pro Logic II sound. The unit's 32-bit Cinema DSP processing projects three sound fields: a presence field in the front and two surround-sound fields in the left and right rear for powerful, realistic 3-D soundscapes. Its total of 24 Cinema-DSP surround modes gives you the versatility to find a sound mode for every media type. The receiver also employs a high-performance 96 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter to perform accurate sound field reproduction for outstanding separation and precise musical delineation.

The two main speakers feature a three-way bass-reflex system, with 6-1/2-inch pulp cone woofers, 3-inch pulp cone midrange drivers, and 1/2-inch balanced dome tweeters; the three satellite speakers feature a two-way bass-reflex design with magnetic shielding that lets you place any unit on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture via stray magnetic fields; and the center speaker features a 4-inch dual woofer driver. The speakers deliver a frequency response of 55 Hz to 28 kHz. The Advanced YST subwoofer offers a powerful bass response with its 6-1/2-inch multirange driver. Powered at 120 watts, the subwoofer has a frequency response of 30 to 200 Hz. The system includes four video inputs, two digital inputs, a component video input, a speaker A-B output, and a front-panel A/V input, plus it comes with a preset remote control.
