I actually bought the DTX-3000, since the YHT 750 has been discontinued and out of stock at all the places searched (and it has been quite extensive, believe me). The ONLY thing different in the 3000 are the speakers (NS-AP8500), which I think may even be better, as they are a bit larger - dual 2.5 woofers with .50 tweeter, rather than the one 3" woofer the 750 has. Everything else is exactly the same - the A/V receiver (HTR 5740), sub woofer (YST - SW030), and the 5 disc changer (DV-C6660). You can verify this information in the Yamaha website (www.yamaha.com).

The sounds that emit from the speakers are quite powerful and full of life. It has great middle tones and the sub is quite distinct, not muffled. The sub is powered and has its own volume control. It is really easy to use - it has a basic set up which is fine, but if you want to fine tune it to your liking or balance, you can do so without too much trouble.

I have a very small living room (about 15 x 17') and the cables that come with it were exactly right. No more, no less. Therefore, if you have a medium to large room, you will need additional cables. The cabling set up was quite effortless, just connect the speakers and then the components. It took me all of 2.5 hours from opening the boxes to setting up, to putting away the boxes (and that was with 45 min of down time, because I didn't have the volume up high enough, and as a result thought it was not connected right... duh). I was able to watch Lord of the Rings in no time, enjoying the surround sounds - remember the dragon lighting? It literally came from left to right.

Esthetically, the 3000 has tall speaker stands convertible to table tops (quite convenient for me because of my living room's set up), which are very attractive and look like a million dollars. The receiver is a little bulky, but if you have the space it is worth it. I find that it is much better to have separate components rather than unified ones - if something goes wrong, the Yamaha has the capability of replacing one component rather than the whole system. There are some integrated systems that are that way, especially if you are looking at all inclusive home theater in a box. If one component breaks down, you will have to replace the entire system.

Also, with this system you are able to add other components as well, such as a turntable, an additional cd player, gamebox, etc. Also has capability of another set of speakers (speaker A and B), for multi-room listening.

All in all, this is a great system, for a fraction of a price of most home theater systems and, most importantly, sounds great. I recommend highly it.

I have had this system for 5 months now and have only had the opportunity to use it for three of those months. It seems that the DVD changer is non servicable and it was sent back to Yamaha but I have not received a replacement to date. SERVICE IS TERRIBLE> I was not called back when I was told I would be and have been shuffled from one person to the next still waiting to hear.
