I have a 10 month old daughter. she loves to climb on anything to pull herself up into a standing position. She has forced me to rethink my surround sound set up for her safety. I was using a high end sony amp to power my klispch rc-7 speakers on stands. I ordred the YSP-1100 with serious doubts that I would be truely satified after using a 6.1 system for some time. I was wrong. It works realy well. They have made it easy to install and set up. It even keep some features of a traditonal surround system. One can turn the left, center, right, rear right and rear left volume up independently. the sound quality is very claer. The highs are not as bright as the Klipsch but they are better than most. There are recomendations for room size and shape. the room size recommendations are (width 3 to 7 meter, h 2 to 3.5 meter and depth 3 to 7 meter). You will also need four walls in the sitting listing area to reflect the sound. Sound reflection is how it is able to achive the surround sound. I know it sounds like a gimmic but it does work. Here is my list of pro's and con's
pro's 1. Easy to set up. 2. Great sound. 3. No running wires between amp and speakers. 4. Wall mountable (with optional mounting bracket). 5. Sub woofer out put (one rca jack). 6. Video inputs (3 conponent and four composite). 7. Two audio inputs. 8. Digital audio inputs (2 toslink and 1 coax). 9. It has a mic to place in the sitting area to allow it to do auto setup. 10. You will not have chair setting really close to rear surround speaker. Con's 1. No HDMI inputs or outputs. 2. You have to have four walls to get great sound. 3. The room size does matter. 4. If wall mounted be prepared to hide some cables (I ran mine inside the wall, looks great). 5. Needs a sub woofer for the full bottom end sound. 6. It is recommended that is to installed where no furniture will block the sound for reflecting off the walls. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great sounding surround system (if they meet the room spec and have four walls).

Truly Amazing Surround Sound,
This review is from: Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector (Electronics)
I finally got around to remodeling the bedroom and did a little over and beyond the "honey do list". Since we were remodeling, my wife finally agreed to a TV in the bedroom but didn't want any wires, amps, speakers, ect. in the room to clutter up the new clean look. So I hung a flat panel with this Yamaha YSP-1100 under it. (I highly recommend the wall bracket for an application like this). The sub is hidden in an undisclosed location and yes I hid the wires. Step 1 completed.
Step 2 required me to make it work and make it easy. The auto-calibration feature was a snap. My bedroom is rectangular and the YSP-1100 sounds amazing! There's sound coming from all around the room but look honey, "no speakers". I programmed it's "My Beam" feature and so when one of us nod off, the other can still watch TV and not get the "can you turn it down" line. Well it passed inspection from the Executive Director of the Interior aka the Mrs! Bottom line, it sounds amazing, looks cool and I highly recommend it. In fact, now my condo-livin' brother-in-law wants one and yep, it's been added to his "honey do list".

I purchased this unit about 1 month ago and I have been nothing but impressed by it. To get the full effect you will need to hook up a external subwoofer. The sound is exceptional and the fact that it is a all in one unit makes it even more appealing. It would be nice to have more than 2 sets of inputs though.

I didn't have high expectations for this speaker. But after calibrating it (very important) it really did sound wonderful. I have an Onyko subwoffer attached, without an additional sub, there really is no bass.
For the 500 dollar price tag from Vanns through Amazon, it was just to good of a deal to pass up.

I was lucky enough to grab one of these YSP-1100 units while Amazon had them for $432 and am so glad I did! My Marantz receiver was starting to give me trouble and I was dissatisfied with the sound of my Boston Acoustics surround speakers. I took a chance on what seemed impossible--a surround system without all the wires and point sound sources. After living with this system for about two weeks, trying it with DVS's, HDTV, CD's and internet music services (Pandora and Slacker through a Squeezebox), I am definitely impressed.
The automatic setup was pretty amazing and fairly easy to tweak using the manual setup menus. Connecting all the inputs and outputs was a bit frustrating, but once I figured it out only took a few hours. The remote codes worked for my Sony DVD player and 10-year-old Mitsubishi TV, but I can't get the Motorola cable box code working, so I have to use the cable remote for some things and the Yamaha remote for most controls. The sound is glorious, and frankly I can't figure out how this technology works so well! My room is not ideal, with an eight-foot wide opening at the back of the room. In spite of this, on many sound sources I definitely hear sound coming from the sides and back of the room. The soundstage for regular stereo CD's and most TV broadcasts spans the entire 14 foot wall behind the TV. Concert DVD's and football games envelope the room in crowd noise, while concentrating the music/commentary in the center front where they belong. I frequently hear sounds that appear to come from all over my house. Even my dog wakes up barking many times looking for the sounds! Beyond the surround effects, which are miraculous, the sound is crisp and life-like. Some other reviewers have commented that the sound is a bit bright and I adjusted the treble gain down a bit which worked for me. Acoustic music sounds like it is right in the room and all music doesn't have the artificial separation that stereo speakers create--most music naturally is in the middle of the soundstage and this unit reproduces music much more naturally than separated stereo speakers in my opinion. Overall this is a terrific system and I think it is well worth the current price of $700-800, particularly considering you would have to spend at least $400 for a decent receiver and more for decent speakers. I should add that I am using my old Boston Acoustic 100W subwoofer and it sounds better than it ever did before. I think the crossover adjustment is calibrated better and there is no discernable "gap" in frequency response. A sub is definitely required. Could someone build a system this good with a good amplifier, wireless rear speakers, etc? Absolutely...for about $2,000. Are a few bells and whistles missing from this to make it perfect for purists? Yes. But the benefits are overwhelming and I wouldn't trade this system in for anything right now.

I did not purchase mine from Amazon, but after setting it up and comparing it my $20K (that ain't no typo, folks) system in our a/v room, I was absolutely amazed at the sound quality of the projector. Yes, it does require a sub and a square or rectangular room with few/no obstructions, but it is not extremely picky about that (the room ours is located in is rectangular, but also with a half wall separating the room from a stairway and it works incredibly). Try "We Were Soldiers" or "The Fifth Element" and listen to the amazing spaciousness and realism this bad boy projects. At $432 this is a remarkable deal and I am seriously considering buying another as soon as I can figure out a use for it!

Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector
I previously owned a YSP-800 and find this model far superior in 'filling the room with sound'. And at a price of $432.00 marked down from $1699.00 a great deal for the money. The remote could use some improvement but is adequate for the task.

Great Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector,
This review is from: Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector (Electronics)
I recommend that you place this under a 42" Tv or larger with placing it under your tv. I also recommend that you calibrate the speaker to obtain the best results. It works best for me hooking it directly up to my Blu Ray Player vs just hooking it up to the Tv by itself. Finally this speaker needs a sub woofer to obtain the low base sounds that will add much joy to your movie watching.

Incredible piece of audio equipment,
This review is from: Yamaha YSP-1100BL Digital Sound Projector (Electronics)
I have a Yamaha receiver bought around 5 years ago, loved it, that's why decided to stick with Yamaha. I have read reviws and specifications about this particular model and convinced it worth the money, I decided to buy it. After playing few ours with it, i am still impressed about how many things this unit knows how to do, and it does it great.
