A must have with Yamaha's sound bar,
By
This review is from: Yamaha YST FSW100 - Subwoofer - 75 Watt - Black (Personal Computers)
The is perfectly matched for Yamaha's sounds bars (ysp-1, ysp-800, ysp-1000). Get it if you have one! This sub was specifically designed just for the soundbar. There is no other sub so perfectly matched.
This sub produces clear base. Nothing too deep and thumping - but nice clean quality base. If you want a real thumper (and I mean rattle the neighbors windows and set off car alarms), you may want to look else where. This sub is as much sub as any sound conisouir needs. Using this sub with the sound bar is a must! It allows the sound bar to dedicate itself to the hi and mid-range tones - not wasting speaker space with artificially base. You can't fully appreciate the technology, quality, and clarity of the soundbar unless you also use this sub. They are a match made in YamaHEAVEN.

The perfect subwoofer,

I cannot imagine anyone not being 100% pleased with this subwoofer. It looks good, it's compact and it provides all the base you need to enjoy a movie or show in your bedroom or studio. It will not take the place of a 10" or bigger subwoofer. I purchased it with the Yamaha YSP1100 speaker. They work perfect together. Most importantly, my wife loves the sound and the look. What more can I say. She hates stero equipment.

A Perfect Match To The Yamaha Sound Projectors,
This review is from: Yamaha YST FSW100 - Subwoofer - 75 Watt - Black (Personal Computers)
If you own one of the Yamaha Sound Projectors, I'm sure you've already determined that a subwoofer is a must to fully enjoy your system. I personally have the YSP-800 (see my review) and it's just not a home theater without the rumble. I have an extra 10" JBL sub that I tried with the YSP-800 but it was too boomy and the timber just was not right so I decided to get the FSW100. As expected, it's a perfect match to the YSP! It provides a clean, subtle bass with out drowning the mid and high tones. The controls located on top of the unit are simple and straight forward. The sleek, elegant design would compliment any flat panel TV and it's a sub you would want to display rather than hide behind a bed or couch. Another nice feature is the System Connector where the sub turns on and off along with the YSP when connected. The silver looks better IMO rather the the traditional black. The only thing that held it back from getting 5 stars from me is it's inability to handle the extremly low frequencies mostly heard in hip hop and rap music. Other than that, it's been able to handle everything I've thrown at it.
The Yamaha YST FSW100 is enough to provide plenty of good bass in a small to medium size rooms and the performance you get for the the price is excellent! If you're looking for a sub to match your Yamaha Sound Projector, look no further.

Only for a Yamaha system!!,
This review is from: Yamaha YST FSW100 - Subwoofer - 75 Watt - Black (Personal Computers)
I bought this after reading the specs and features from the Yamaha website. I wanted a slimline sub to add to a small space and one that has the "standby" feature. But I got a surprise after unpacking it when I THEN found out that the "standby" feature ONLY works when hooked up with a YAMAHA component and IT'S "system" plug. I had it hooked to a Pioneer system, but the Pioneer SR system plug does NOT work with it, the sub will constantly buzz and make loud clicking sounds. Its a great sounding sub but be aware that this sub is NOT like most subs with a standby feature. The Yamaha website help says that it "should" work with any 12 volt output controller but it does NOT. This ruined it for me as I do not want to have to reach into the tight space where I needed it to continually turn it off and on. Yamaha should have made this plain in their ads but they just don't seem to care about that, this was misleading. So, if you don't want to have to physically turn your sub on and off every time you use your stereo or home theater, buy JBL or some other sub that has a true "standby" feature that turns itself on and off like it should. If you have a Yamaha sound bar with a Yamaha system plug then go ahead, but it may not work even with that, who knows? So now I have to try to re-sell this unit and probably take a loss on the deal, figures.

Good news & Bad news,

The Subwoofer is great, did have a vibration tick when cranked up. I tightened a couple of screws on back plate and it was gone. That was the only bad news. Obviously not that bad, This subwoofer along with the 800 soundbar from Yamaha make an excellent pair without all the wires needed for other sound systems. The good news is my experience with etronics because I thought I would have to return unit, within one day I had UPS return labels and the Amazon/etronics experience was all I could ask for. etronics explained when UPS picked up woofer and was in their computer system the new woofer would be shipped immediately.

There are better subs but none better in this price range. I use the FSW100 with the Yamaha YSP-1100 and it provides just enough bass. It will not provide the bone crushing bass needed for hard core rap fans or for the head banger types. Then again, that's not my usage. Viewing Blu-ray movies and day to day TV, you cannot go wrong with this sub.

Don't expect this subwoofer to absolutely blow anything away, but that's because that's not what it's designed for. I use it with my YSP800 unit, and it works just fine. Not too loud, but the base is deep enough to be sufficient for my tiny combines of a living room. Bottom line, if you're an audiophile this is NOT a unit for you, obviously. If you're just a regular 'joe the plumber' and looking for a sleek looking, great sounding woofer, then this one is perfect.

The Yamaha FSW100 is a compact woofer that delivers excellent quality. Our family room is about 18x18. The woofer is not overpowering and is not oversized.
It defintely completes our home theater system. The supplier was also great. Delivery was timely and communication was perfect.

Works well with Yamaha Sound Projector,

When thinking about getting this sub-woofer, it's important to consider the other pieces in your system. I purchased it to go along with the Yama Sound Projector YSP 900--and it does the job very nicely at an attractive price through Amazon. I did much research about this and found out that sometimes higher end sub-woofers would have too much base and would overpower the sound projector. I think anyone using the sound projector without a subwoofer would would be very disappointed in the overall effect. This subwoofer is a great match to it and is relatively compact. I am very happy with my system---great sound without having to worry about having speakers set up all around the room for surround sound and having to deal with wires, etc. That being said, it is a trade off, as it does not equal or surpass a quality surround system. Weighing the difference of simplicity and having a compact system versus an even higher quality sound of surround, I am happy with my decision and would choose to go this route again. You have to know your priorities and decide for yourself.

A must have if you have the Yamaha sound bar. The sound bar needs the rumble when watching action movies.
