Product Description

Yamaha YST-FSW150BL Advanced YST II Down-Firing Active Subwoofer is a new shaped subwoofer with Yamaha's latest technologies, including Advanced YST II, Linear Port and down-firing Active design plus. The Rack Mountable Design matches the surround systems and micro component systems. This subwoofer both employs a high performance and down-firing active design. Even though compact, it delivers an impressive bass power and accurate sound reproduction. The down-firing design radiates the sound efficiently in all directions. The Linear Port provides smooth bass response and minimizes extraneous noise. It also serves to boost the sound output from this compact subwoofer. Capable of handling high dynamic power of 130W, this subwoofer ensures that you hear all bass sounds, even the loudest short bursts, with fast attack and total clarity.

A great fit with the other pieces to our home theater system!

This subwoofer pairs perfectly with the Yamaha YSP-4000BL Digital Sound Projector to provide incredible sound for a home theater. The setup for the YSP-4000 will automatically do the crossover for the subwoofer. Using the enclosed Yamaha link cable, the subwoofer will automatically be turned on and off with the YSP-4000. I can and do strongly recommend this combination for a home theater that not only sounds great buts looks good as well.

This little unit rocks. It is low profile, looks great, and fits into a narrow space. Don't plan on stacking components on top of it even though you may be tempted, as the rumbling of the bass can disrupt other components. You can also place this vertically. Like the other reviewer, it is perfect with the ysp-4000 as the sync cable turns it off and on with the main speaker. I think other yamaha components may have this also.

Actually designed for my soundbar (YSP-4100), which is a wonderful unit, but is only rated down to 90hz (and that's probably at -10db). This little subwoofer is a perfect match; more of a woofer for my soundbar, which basically lacks one/them, but with some good subwoofer capabilities as well. Nice quality and solid build, just like most of Yamaha's products. I actually located it inside my audio console, behind a mesh door, on which the soundbar resides (surprisingly, that works extremely well). I retained my huge subwoofer for just the ultra LFEs (sub 30hz), but even with it turned off, the YST does a good job with movies all on its own. It's not going to rattle the windows; it's a 6" driver with a 100 watt ("max. output", i.e. more like a true 50 watt) amplifier. And it doesn't have a variable crossover, speaker inputs, or even stereo subwoofer inputs. With my YSP, that's perfect; don't need or want any of that (YSP handles the crossover, it contains all the speakers, and what's the point of stereo LFEs?). I like quality, realistic sounding, not boomy, over-driven bass. If you like the latter, this subwoofer probably won't measure up. So bottom line, with my system, this subwoofer is the perfect addition; in my opinion, the YST and YSP should be sold together. But if your system isn't similar to mine, you might look at Yamaha's other subwoofers.

If you have small or medium bookshelf speakers with midranges smaller than 6.5 inches, this is a nice sub (especially for the price). However, keep in mind if you are like me and have large tower speakers with 6.5" midranges in them alongside a $400 center speaker.. this Sub can sound a hair on the weak side (is a 6.5" subwoofer). This unit is not an enclosed subwoofers that sound overly tight.. it shoots air out of a front port & the speaker is on the bottom (side if you have it upright). I still like it for the size and space-savings. It fits nicely into a sanus wall shelf in a 12*12 room.

Just be mindful if you have a large system in the rest of the room, or if the midranges in your towers are close to it's size or bigger. However, I do like it. I have towers in another room with 10" speakers in them... so this thing would not match those.

Am not an "audio nut"....I just like good sound out of our system.... so pleae take these words with an appropriate "grain of salt". This Yamaha sub woofer was a snap even for a novice like me to install...and it just fit into the space alloted to it.
The sound it puts out is as promised...very nice bass ....
On the other hand, this unit would not win a "Miss AMerica" contest when it comes to looks and there are many more attractive sub woofers out there to choose from.
However, I didn't buy this one for it's sleek and suave appearance...just for the sound it puts out and the price point to achieve that sound. On that counts, this ugly duckling "quacks" just right.

I have a yamaha reciever and bought this because the bookshelf bose weren't cutting it. This sub definately makes a difference. The only complaint I have is that the additional cable to signal power off does not work with my stereo. You'd think yamaha would be compatible with yamaha...not always true. Not a big deal, but keeps me from giving it 5 stars. I would not buy the lower wattage sub-woofer as I usually have this one maxed out. This could be due to the fact that it is on a shelf and not on the floor. Overall this sounds great and completely changes the way I listen to music and entertainment. I do not have surround, 2.1 only.

This is the only component size bass speaker unit that would fit in my stereo cabinet. It sounds great and adds real dimension to my in-home pre-wired speaker system.

This sub is for smaller rooms. 14' x 14' maximum. Sold it to a friend and it works pretty good in his lower ceiling living room. For larger rooms with high ceilings go bigger.
