This sub is abslutely amazing. Sounds in the ultra-low range actually come out as notes rather than indistinct rumblings. When used for home theater, you can feel the difference from other subs in the same price range. It even generates sounds so low that those "felt but not heard" sound effects are faithfully reproduced, the way Hollywood intended.

This baby was made to compete with the big boys. It fills its stat line with good numbers and has the real world performance to back it up. The finish on the furniture grade inch thick real maple cabinet is exceptional as well, making it look as fantastic as it performs.

The title was just a joke but this subwoofer is anything but! This thing is thunderous! If you like adding depth to your music this is the device. With a 12" driver and internal 1,000 watt internal amp, this thing has plenty of reserve power. I listen to my rock/pop music very loud and the YST-SW1500 laughs at me to turn it louder. Be warned... Take any loose items such as pictures off of tabletops and make sure things on the wall are secure. Tighten screws around the house every couple of months. This subwoofer will show your home what bass is all about. Bass travels so if you have neighbors within ear shot, this will not be the unit for you. Look for a significantly smaller unit. This sub is for the serious music lover only.

UPDATE (10-8-2007) - I'm even more in love with this unit today than I was when I bought it. Take my advise please, when it comes to a sub regardless of what brand you buy, go big! Bigger the woofer, bigger the boom. High power is the only way.

Even if you think it's too big... Trust me, it's just right! This sub backs up a BOSE AcousticMass 5 system. I bought the BOSE system first and added the sub 2 years latter. I thought the BOSE was a sweet sounding system... When I added the Yamaha I realized the BOSE actually sounded like crap! Wake up your home system and get a high powered sub. You won't regret it!

I have built and entire sound system using Definitive Technology speakers with one center two fronts and six surrounds ... all that was missing was a subwoofer that could punch out the low sounds when needed. The Def Tech subwoofer although wonderful for music lacked the punch needed for action movies. I researched extensively subwoofers and opted to buy the Yamaha YST-SW1500. It was everything I could have wished for. Music sounds great and when watching movies my house shakes. This is a awsome speaker for the price!

Words cannot describe this sub woofer! It is by far the best sub money can buy. It is truly amazing to hear and feel the output of this sub. I do not know why Yamaha stopped making it but it is just truly amazing. The power that this baby puts out even with volume up only 30 percent is incredible! All I can say is that if you get your hands on one of these you will have to consider yourself lucky as can be. There is no way you can go wrong with this sub. Truly a masterpiece of Yamaha and an extreme asset to any home theater!
