Compact, looks great, and easy to set up/use. I have a small living room and this unit fills it entirely with incredible bass. I played with it for a while and I found, for the size of the room it is in (roughly 13'x18'), that setting it at 100Hz is a good compromise for bass that is not overwhelming yet still ground shaking. Looking back at when I purchased it 3.5 years ago, I do not regret investing my money into it. I know there are better subwoofer units out on the market, but for the ones with small living rooms (like I do), this subwoofer is a good choice: simpleness of set up/use, small foot print doesn't take up a lot of space, and attractive look.

I got this unit about 2 months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am using it with a jbl on time clock radio/ipod speaker system and it sounds great. The controls are easy to get to and you can get a variety of different sounds from deep sub bass to more musical mid bass. The only draw back that I could find would be the the volume of the unit. It is perfect for my application but if I was using it for my home theater it might not be powerful enough. All in all I found it to be a great unit for a great price and would not hesitate to reccomend it to anyone.

I originally had a front firing Yamaha Sub. and replaced it with this one. The great thing about this sub is that it has great features and options which make it energy efficient and adjustable for various front and rear speaker selections.(adjustable htz high cut, auto shut off etc.) Personally I like the front firing Sub for Music and I like the downward firing sub for Video and Video games. In any case Yamaha makes great subs for small to mid sized rooms and if your buying a front firing or a downward firing you can't go wrong choosing Yamaha.

... and no, I don't work for Yamaha.

I have a 5.1 sound system in my living room, and This subwoofer has power enough for that, and it could give more. Easy to setup. It gives a soft bass, so it is perfect for slow/romantic music. Not so good for

I initially bought the Polk PSW111 with the same specifications and 8" cone which i returned due to unsatisfactory booming and humming sound which was not accepatable in any angle. I initially thought it was a placement issue but i was wrong. Yamaha subwoofer on the other hand had much better construction with pino black finish and sounded just right. I am very happy with my purchase. What i love is the easy access to the controls in the front which seals the deal. This is down firing subwoofer with no speaker gill unlike other subwoofer which is more to my liking since i have a 2 yr old who likes to experiment :) Overall this looks sweet too and adds to the decor. This is $$$ well spent and Yamaha has another satisfied customer.

I ordered this "like new" from Amazon Warehouse. It arrived by USPS priority mail, badly damaged in its opened box. I refused delivery. I then ordered a new one, even though the new price had increased significantly. I told Amazon of my problem. It did two things; 1) it shipped the second subwoofer super fast, and 2) it refunded me the difference in price between the second and first subwoofer. Wow! Now that is customer service! Amazon will also refund the price of the first and damaged subwoofer plus shipping when it arrives back at Amazon.

The subwoofer is not an earthquake producer which is fine because I listen to music, not earthquakes. I use it in a system on my boat with the Audioengine 5A+ speakers. It works excellently because its many controls allow for seamless, inconspicuous integration with the 5A+'s and add as much bass as any music might need. That is what I wanted. For movies with silly mega bass sound tracks, I have to turn it down significantly -- not that the subwoofer cannot handle it -- and I find that is a nuisance. The "music vs.movie" switch is useful for different kinds of music, but not enough for silly, super-hyped movie sound tracks where a 50 Hz rumble always accompanies a spaceship moving through airless space. Don't ask. I don't need or want a prelude to an enema. Again, music is my interest, mostly classical, but reaching down as far as heavy metal, as well.

It is also attractive in piano black, compact and works well, placed just about anywhere. The key controls in front is helpful, especially when I deign to put on a movie and have to make adjustments. Their positioning makes life easy. Highly recommended unless you want to rattle everything in the house loose and go WOW a lot because that's what you like to do.

The actual dimensions are 14.3x11.7x12.11 (HxWxD) and weighs only 25.6lbs, so it is smaller than listed here. This has turned out to be a perfect addition to my 2.1 setup with my computer audio system in my 12x12 office/den. My desktop equipment consists of an HP Pavillion dv7 Entertainment PC, Audioengine D1 DAC, Audioengine N22 integrated amp and Polk Rti4 speakers. The front mounted controls and side mounted port work perfectly for sitting on the floor of the right side of my desk. Easy access to controls from my chair if needed is a plus and the port is not near a wall so no boomy or muddy sounds. I have always liked and used Yamaha amps and the idea of the Yamaha Active Servo Technology on their subs, but never purchased one. The bass from this sub is deep, clear and tight from the well controlled 8 inch woofer. This system is a music only system from which I listen to Pandora, YouTube (music) and CD's. I listen to almost everything you can think of from Hard Rock (Alice in Chains), Downtempo Lounge (Blank & Jones) Orchestrated (2002) and Ambient Space music (Steve Roach). I do not think I could have done much better at this price point for what turned out to be a very musical sub of this size. I know I could have spent much more for a small sub that I needed for my small space, but doubt it would have performed much better. I am not sure how it would perform in a full home theater, but I guess it would depend upon the size of your room. I just sold my old M&K MX-80 dual 12 inch sub to a friend who has a larger home than my town home because it shook my neighbors homes. I am going to try this little sub out in my home theater system to see how well it performs.Read more ›
