Amazing, April 23, 2003
This review is from: Yamandu Costa (Audio CD)
If you have not listened to something beyond your comprehension yet, you must have to be introduced to Yamandu Costa. With some mix of regional music from Rio Grande do Sul, Choro and Tango, and a very vivacious skill, he is, undoubtedly, one of the best players in the world. This young brazilian player plays so incredible his guitar that it's difficult to belive he is alone in the stage.

Terrific, June 5, 2004
This review is from: Yamandu Costa (Audio CD)
I'm listening to this CD for the second time as I write this review. I've not been one to write reviews for this website, even though I regularly purchase my music and books here. I'm so taken by this CD, that I wanted everyone to know. I can't wait have company in my home so I can show off my discovery. I first heard Yamandu Costa on NPR and liked what I heard. The selections on the CD are varied in temperament, from relaxed and kind of sparse to very intense and full of passion. Some selections are light hearted. It has a kind of ebb and flow that makes it easy to listen to for the full duration, rather than wanting to skip over some selections. I'm glad I heard him on NPR so I have something new and fresh in my CD rack.

Fresh and astonishing, May 25, 2003
This review is from: Yamandu Costa (Audio CD)
I recently made a couple trips to Sao Paulo, and a friend there recommended this Yamandu Costa CD. It is amazing work. Costa was named Brazil's best guitar player a couple years ago (when he was 21). He plays a seven string guitar - which provides a different sound with a stronger bass line. The music is a unique mixture of a jazzy latin sound, flamenco, traditional classical guitar, and blues. The guitar is always very active, very dynamic. Some of the cuts have only Costa, some have a clarinet or a flute. This artist and recording will please anyone who loves the guitar.
