These chopsticks are the perfect travel chopsticks.

What makes a good pair of travel chopsticks?
1) Adjustable length: short to fit in a lunchbag/purse/pocket and long to balance nicely in the hand and keep you fingers away from the food.
2) The material has to be durable and easily washable.
3) The material and/or design has to not harbor bacteria/food remnants.
4) The case has to be easily washable, durable and portable.
5) They have to be inexpensive in case you loose them.
6) Preferably lightweight as you will be carrying these around.

Although these chopsticks fit all the above criteria perfectly, there are a few notes/tips to consider when purchasing these:

1) These chopsticks essentially tapered steel barrels. They are hollow to be lightweight and strong.
2) Steel chopsticks are not for the novice chopstick user. It is harder to grasp things. These do have ridges on the food end but it doesn't help much unless you have really good (& correct) skills.
3) You can burn your lips and tongue eating hot foods with metal chopsticks. Again, not for the novice.
4) The container is an aluminium tube with some plastic lining to prevent the chopsticks from rattling.
5) The chopsticks fit in the tube *very* snugly. There is only 1 way to get them to fit: Insert the lower halves first, pointy food-end facing up. Then insert the remaining halves, screw-end facing up.
6) Since the case is one tube, it is easy to wash with a small bottle brush or by simply rinsing in hot soapy water.
7) The case has "YAMAZAKI" and "MY CHOPSTICKS" printed in grey on opposite ends of the lower barrel. It is very visible in the red and the black. It is much less visible (and gentler on the eye) on the silver case.
8) The clip (tight) and the collar are shiny chrome.

Other issues:
* These are the lightest steel chopsticks.
* Quality Control - I own and use several of these (car bag/desk at work/picnic basket/craft table/tool kit) and have given many as gifts over the years. 9 out of 10 have no problems. Only 1 or 2 have a slight finishing issue with end of the tip of the hand-end and a mere 1 - 2 millimetre difference in length.
* If you need a slightly heavier weight but otherwise same chopstick, get the one packaged in the oval reading-glasses tube (sold under various brands) and also on Amazon Stainless Steel Portable Travel Chopsticks #8034 . I saw some advertised recently as "brow-pencil" chopsticks.
* For gift giving, I recommend one of the decorated chopsticks in a matching gift box. They can be found online: search for boxed gift chopsticks.
* For novices, a plain bamboo chopstick is best. Or try a banquet style (Chinese-style) straight chopstick. The tapered ends require more skills that comes with much practice.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average chopsticks, July 28, 2008

I got these as a gift for one of my groomsmen who travels a lot and loves Japanese food. I was hoping the presentation would be better for these, but you get what you pay for. They come in a plastic case (it's not steel like it may look in the picture), and the case comes free floating in the Amazon box (I expected the case to come in some form of box that I could wrap, but had to find a gift box instead).
The sticks themselves are a good weight and solid stainless steel. There's really nothing fancy about them, and I went to an engraving shop and paid $20 to get his initials engraved on them, so I essentially paid twice the price of the chopsticks just to personalize them.
Still, my friend seemed to like them and I hope he will use them in his travels.
I was going to give two stars for presentation, but I'll give three because the price is right.

In my search to eliminate the need for single-use products, I came across these stainless steel beauties. Not only does the case keep them clean, but they screw apart to store in half, meaning they'll fit just fine in even the smallest purse or a pocket. Being steel also means they can be wiped dry and put back away immediately after washing and won't harbor mildew and bacteria in damp pore spaces.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for the Office, August 28, 2009

Sturdy, functional and compact. Each chopstick is like a miniature 2-piece cue stick crafted from stainless steel. Screw them together and you are ready to go. The container is like an extra thick fountain pen (about the same diameter as a cigar tube) which makes it a bit too bulky for my shirt pocket (It does have a clip on the container is if it were intended to be secured in a pocket) but would fit in pretty well in most women's purses. (I have seen objects of similar size and shape in women's purses

I use these at the office where I often eat ramen noodles for Lunch. The 3 grooves that are machined near the tips for gripping your food are a bit too shallow and could use about twice as many grooves for better traction. When I'm done, I just wash and dry them, then slide them back into the plastic-lined, metal case. It is manufactured to extremely close tolerances so you had better remember how the pieces were arranged when you take the disassembled chopsticks out of their case because they will only fit back in if you have them in that same arrangement which is, BTW, not a logical one.

5.0 out of 5 stars What I expected-a useable item., August 18, 2009

Just got to me via mail less than two hours ago. The carry case is the same as what you get with those pocket reading glasses-strong enough unless you sit or step on it then you are on your own.

Chopsticks are shiny stainless with small grooves at the bottom two inches in a corkscrew pattern.

I immediately cooked up a Chinese Egg drop noodle and vegetable recipe I make simply and quickly. I had few issues picking up all but the smallest pieces of noodles, no issues picking up green onion pieces-1/2" and semi-soft, zero issues with any of the veggies.

I did not find the sticks to be 'too slippery' so I suppose it depends on how accustomed one is to using them properly.

Likely will send a pair to a friend of mine. :)

Really cool little item. Functional, stylish, and hygienic. The only downside is that they are a little slippery. It would've been nice if they had a little knurled part so you could get a better grip. Altogether, though, very much worth it if you use chopsticks at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Chopsticks, December 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just received my set today, and the first thing I did with them was to test them out on some chocolate-covered candy-coated sunflower seeds, similar to Sunbursts - Candy Coated Choc. Sunflower Seeds - 2 Lbs. These little things are round and tiny and with a coating similar to M&Ms, are difficult to pick up even with wood or plastic chopsticks (though like Cheetos are good for practising chopstick use on). With a little practice, I was able to successfully pick them up individually with these chopsticks.

At the top of the page, it says these chopsticks "Ships from and sold by Mott Gifts." My set, however, came from "Table and Home".

I'm rating these a 4 because one of the handle sections is slightly crushed and damaged at the very end. It appears that the handle-end is hollow as well, not just the food-end.
