Good Serviceable Set,
By InterTube Consumer (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yamazaki Cache Gold Accent 42-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I've been very impressed by the quality and build of the Yamazaki set. The gold accents are durable and the pieces get along with the dishwasher just fine. The short tines on the salad fork are, as they appear in the photo, somewhat frustrating when employed on anything beyond lettuce, though they are not completely useless. My only gripe is that the pieces themselves could have been just a bit heavier (my personal preference), but don't think that they aren't build solid. The knife in particular is very sturdy and heavy. Spoons are perfectly sized, and the dinner fork works well even with the unique design.
This is the first flatware set I've ever had with no regrets on the purchase (especially when Amazon has deals on flatware). It may not be a top of the line set, but it never fails to get compliments from guests and it has thus far stood up to daily use.

Love This Quality Flatware,
This review is from: Yamazaki Cache Gold Accent 42-Piece Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I am very pleased with my purchase of the Cache Gold Accent flatware design from Yamazaki. It's a design I saw and fell in love with many years ago. I always regretted not purchasing it, but it also wasn't something I could afford at the time I found it. I was delighted to find this design still available while searching for it on the Internet recently.
I purchased a 42-piece set (eight 5-piece place settings and the large serve spoon and large serve fork that are part of the Entertainment Set) that also came with a wooden caddy (12.25 in x 16 in x 2.75 in), a lovely replacement for my old plastic flatware tray. To that I added another 4 place settings. All twelve place settings fit easily into the caddy, with room for more if I needed to add any. The Cache Gold Accent design is every bit as elegant and polished as the photos depict, and Yamazaki is unquestionably manufacturing quality products. Because I had never owned flatware having gold accents, I searched several Yamazaki retailers' sites for information on how caring for it might be different. I mostly found that it was dishwasher safe, which is, of course, quite common. Some may benefit by knowing the full care and cleaning instructions before purchasing this design. This nice-to-know information was only available after I received and opened my flatware. I didn't and can't find this information (details below) anywhere on the Yamazaki or Amazon.com sites. So far, my experience with this flatware has been effortless, negating all my initial concerns after reading the care and cleaning instructions. Our family uses it every day. I use a dishwasher detergent containing bleach. Yamazaki confirmed via email that it was safe to use, and I've seen no ill effects. I have soft water (in-home softener), and I keep this flatware in the dishwasher for the entire cycle, including drying. They have always come out completely spotless and shiny. They've also survived a few lemon pepper fish meals without being rinsed or washed immediately afterward, and haven't shown any sign of staining. Some may also like to know the knives are not serrated. I definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to purchase unique, quality flatware. The care and cleaning instructions included with my purchase are as follows: -Yamazaki flatware is dishwasher approved and should be washed in the normal cycle. To avoid staining of your flatware, Yamazaki strongly recommends that you DO NOT use a dishwashing compound that contains lemon. -To avoid spotting, often caused by hard water, please remove your flatware before the heat cycle and hand dry. If spotting does occur, you may remove it by using a stainless steel cleaner found in department or grocery stores. -Staining can be caused by acids and oils in foods. These stains can be removed with a stainless steel cleaner. -Follow these hints and you will find your Yamazaki flatware will become more beautiful over the years and provide you with a lifetime of dining pleasure.

The tongs on the forks are absolutely breathtaking. If you think the photo is nice, wait until you see the real thing....incredible...if only forks could talk...

We purchased this set of flatware for our daughter's wedding gift and it is gorgeous! The pieces have a nice weight and the overall impression is one of quality.

I feel a little bit pressured to write this review, so I apologize in advance if this comes off as a bit unprepared and rough-edged.
I purchased this 42-piece set to use as utensils for eating my foodstuffs and rations. When I tried the fork out for the first time, I wasn't sure what was going on around me at the time because I was so nervous. Turns out I didn't have much to be nervous about because the silverware set really didn't deliver where it had promised. Yamazaki Cache really dealt out a one-two punch when they decided to add in the special bonus: a bonus wooden caddy! I was really surprised when I found this bonus because I hadn't expected it when I made the initial purchase. Now that the dust has settled and I have regained my senses, I am finding this caddy to be functional but on the verge of redundancy. With the advent of the modern drawer and modern box, a caddy such as this seems to be suffering from a bad case of obsolescence (or being obsolete if that isn't a real word). My only complaint about these tools of meal is that they were a little hard on the teeth when chewed upon. You would think to yourself, a fellow and rational human being, "This is gold, of course it's OK to chew on it. For chrissakes it's gold!". Unfortunately, the golden rule did not apply here and I had to spend two hours in the emergency room and two weeks in intensive care, re-learning how to walk and speak. A final thought, when trying to navigate yourself through a canal filled to the brim with piping hot seawater, be wary that ye do not fall waterside. Good day. |
