This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
I think that this book would be very good for someone who moves from another country to the United States. It shows that just because your customs are different that doesn't mean you can't be respected by other people. I thought it was a funny book because while Yingmei Yang was trying to be friends with Holly, Yingmei's mother kept accidentally insulting Holly's mother Mrs. Hanson. In China it it a compliment to be called old and fat. When Yingmei's mother called Mrs. Hanson old and fat she was very insulted and Yingmei was very embarrased of her mother.

Review for Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
I really like Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family by Lensey Namioka. The book is about a Chinese girl who moves to Seattle. She is trying very hard to fit in and make new friends, and her family isn't helping very much. Mary adopts a cat without tellin her parents. She is trying to learn American customs and is changing her name to Mary, and American name. I liked the book because it is funny and nothing sad really happens. I think you should read this book.

This book is about a Chinese girl who noved from China to America. At the Thanksgiving dinner, many embarrassing things happen. The book is about a girl named Mary who wants to become best friends with the popular Holly Hanson. On the way, Mary gets a kitty, tries the best she can to become friends with Holly, and isn't honest with her family. Will Mary and Holly become friends? Will Mary's parent's find out about the Kitty Rita? You should read Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family by Lensey Namioka. It was good.

This is a very straightforward story of a recent Chinese immigrant family living in Seattle. It contains excellent, specific examples of cultural differences that offer numerous discussion points for the classroom or book group.

Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
This book is exciting and funny. I found it funny when the mother used Chinese customs, which was pretty insulting how she put it. Mary is trying to fit in. She wants to be best friends with Holly, and she does things she knows she shouldn't just to be friends with Holly. Mary's family likes to play instruments. Mary plays the cello. Her mother plays the piano, and her brothers play the violin. Holly plays the viola. Mary adopts Rita, Holly's cat, and has a lot of problems. I liked the story.

Yang The Third,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family is a really good book. It has a lot of cool stuff that tells you how Chinese families are and aren't like American families. There are also some problems that happen during the book, like how she keeps the cat a secret. Also, how to make friends with Holly.

A Great Book,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
Yang The Third And Her Impossible Family is the best book about people from China I ever read. The girl's name is Mary. In the beginning, at the Thanksgiving dinner, lots of problems come up. Mary gets a cat from Holly, and she has to keep it in the basement because in China you are not supposed to have cats or dogs.

Comical !!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family (Paperback)
From the very beginning of this book,I found it very comical.I felt that my stomach will burst with laughter if I laughed once more. There are many jokes in this book. You will scream with laughter everytime you come upon a joke. This book is about a girl,Yingmei Yang who tries to mix around with the American people and tries to be like them.To do this, she takes down words into her notebook. When she tries to befriend Holly and her gang,Yingmei's mother accidently offended Holly's mother on several occasions.Like for instanceChinese people always ask how old someone is but in America it is rude to ask people their age. This is a very good book.Nearly every page there is something to laugh about.
