About the Author

Bob Woods is a freelance writer who grew up in upstate New York during the 1950s and 1960s, loving the Yankees and collecting Topps baseball cards. His affection for the Yanks only increased when he moved to New York City after college and teamed up with Topps to create Topps Magazine. His ongoing association with Topps ultimately led to this labor of love.

Any selection of the "greatest" of anything is, by definition, subjective.

But that's not the problem with this interesting and intriguing effort...

The print's too small. That is the problem...Really, really, too small...

For a book whose target audience might well be Baby Boomers, it is unfortuate, regrettable, and, frankly, amazing. How could such good effort be wasted on a mistake such as this. The type is just too small.

For a Baby Boomer to have to use a magnifying glass to read a book like this, it defeats the whole purpose.

Instead of reminding us of our youth and the glory days of the Yankees, it is just another reminder of how old we really are.

Good effort, great effort wasted. Almost.

All of those names that you think of when someone mentions the New York Yankees are here, from the legends like Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, and Joe DiMaggio, to the current crop of future Cooperstown residents like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. Yankee Greats: 100 Classic Baseball Cards features Topps cards and thumbnail sketches of some of the best players to wear the Yankee uniform. Of course, not everyone who has donned the pinstripes is inducted into the Hall of Fame. Author Bob Woods also shines the spotlight on Mel Stottlemyre, Mickey Rivers, and Don Mattingly, as well as field generals Joe Girardi, Bob Lemon, and Billy Martin.

This book is more than just a book, however. Each one comes with a special pack of four baseball cards with the 2012 Topps design: Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Reggie Jackson, and Paul O'Neill. The cards are foil-free, numbered NYY1-NYY4 with the player's full statistics on the reverse.

Yankee fans and baseball card collectors alike will love Yankee Greats, but one has to wonder, are other teams' books on the horizon?

Heavily skewed toward the recent 80s 90s Yanks but a good rendition just the same for all Yank fans today

Great book. Still it's more for Yankee Fans than collectors of Vintage Cards.

I love the whole 1952 Topps done in a book like this with say 1 book for 1952 Series 1 , another for 1952 Series 2, etc. Also a books for 1962, 1967, 1973, 1975, 1976 and 1984
