Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 8 Up—This third book in the series contains some great action and ideas, although readers unfamiliar with the first two books may be lost. Ali Warner, teenager and human incarnation of a fairy queen, has little time to recover from the events of The Shaktra (Tor, 2005), including the death of her friend Steve. The Shaktra is gearing up for an invasion that could destroy both the human and elemental worlds and is prepared to go to any lengths-including framing Ali for Steve's death-in order to achieve that end. In her efforts to stop the war, Ali learns more about her fairy life, the talisman known as the Yanti, and the mysterious force that transformed her fairy sister into the Shaktra. Pike's mix of magic, technology, and social message will appeal to those who enjoy Mercedes Lackey's "SERRAted Edge" series (Baen).—Christi Voth, Parker Library, CO

Review
Praise for Alosha:

“Will undoubtedly entertain. Ali is a multilayered character, believably working through her flaws and false assumptions to develop into the fairy queen. The backstory is compelling, the action is fast-paced, the danger is real. Sure to be a blockbuster.”--Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books

“With many plot twists and plenty of excitement, this novel will appeal to action-oriented fantasy readers.”--VOYA

“A fast-paced combination of intrigue and fantasy. The writing is smooth and flows easily. Readers are sure to be captivated by the descriptive details and entertaining plot complete with dwarves, elves, fairies, and trolls.”--School Library Journal

Praise for the novels of Christopher Pike:

“Highly recommended. Really charismatic protagonists. I couldn’t put this one down.”--Rocky Mountain News on The Listeners

“Winning.”--Booklist on Bury Me Deep

“Instantly engaging.”--Publishers Weekly on Chain Letter

“Non-stop action will keep readers guessing as the plot twists and turns.”--VOYA on Magic Fire

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, November 16, 2006
This series just keeps getting better. And there's more to come! Nemi is the next book in the series. :) I have loved Christopher Pike's books for 16 years and he never ceases to amaze me. I very highly recommend this series, as well as all his other books. (Especially The Season of Passage) :)

3.0 out of 5 stars um, so a trilogy?, January 14, 2008
so this series is great, but i wonder if mr. pike knows what a trilogy is. see, as i was finishing the third book i thought i was done - but not so much. apparently there is more to come. that's cool and all, but a trilogy is three parts. next time just call it a series if you can't finish the story. i am a bit disappointed because of this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A surprising look into the depths of perception and philosophy, January 13, 2009
By C. Nelson (Dallas, TX USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This series begins with a promising young adult novel and evolves into an increasingly complex, philosophical and perceptive adult-level series. By the third book in this ongoing series, one feels that as the characters harden and mature into wise protagonists and complex antagonists, we understand along with them the knowledge that good and evil is only a matter of perspective. But, the novel begs the question; does the end justify the means? Both "good" and "evil" characters have decisions to make, and carefully laid plans to initiate and undertake. Only the author knows how far either side will go to win the ultimate battle for the fate of two increasingly dangerous dimensions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not ad good as the first two
This gets bogged down with a lot of crap in the middle. It's nowhere near the fun, speedy read Alosha was or as riviting as Shaktra.
