Could be Erotic IF the art was fixed?,
By Carolyn "Dedicated Yaoi Fan." (NSW, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yaoi Hentai, Volume 1 (Paperback)
This is the first Graphic Novel (GN) in a series Yaoi Press plans to release (at least one or two Graphic Novels a year).
Yaoi Press is a self-erected American Graphic Novel company that employs people from all over the world to draw and write GN for the English speaking audience. The idea is wonderful, sharing Yaoi with all. But this is where they fall short. As most fans of Manga (Japanese Comics) are used to the Japanese Art Style, expecting a clear shot of a huge fan base for Western 'styled' art is a little too much. As most of the Artists (except Studio Kosen, who doesn't draw for any Yaoi Hentai GN I've seen so far) seem to be untalented and seem to need drawing lessons of their own. I agree with the statement their artists draw like they are making a coloring book with the huge thick lines. You'll see better art in a Superman comic. The proportions of the men and boys depicted in these GN's makes one wonder is the artists have ever seen a naked man before. Another is the fact, we come back to the feminine uke, where there are no muscles or anything revealing that they are truly men to begin with. The stories are truly smut which is the only positive. But some of points of the stories still isn't revealed. No real plot just meet-and-screw. If the art wasn't so terrible, it would so much better! Maybe when Yaoi Press hires some good artists they'll sell more books. The writers are fine, just that horrible art they need to fix. Maybe get Studio Kosen (Stallion, Satoishi the Guardian) to do a lot more of their titles?

The art was so bad in this book, I couldn't get past it. And only one story was remotely interesting enough to make an effort worthwhile. The best way I can describe the art in this is a children's coloring book. Most figures have very thick lines depicting them, and the body proportions are never quite right.
Yes, it's explicit. But when genitalia is drawn like a cartoon, it's not erotic--just silly. This is a westernized manga, reading left-to-right. That doesn't bother me when the manga is good (like Desire of the Gods (Yaoi)), but here it's just one more thing not to like. I won't be taking a chance on Volumes 2 and 3, and I'll be returning this one to Amazon. I'd rather take a loss on the return shipping cost than keep it. Yup, that bad. Update: I have read a couple other mangas from Yaoi Press that were worthwhile and enjoyable. Saihoshi The Guardian Omnibus (Yaoi) and Winter Demon Volume 1 (Yaoi) are two of their best.

My title says it all. If only there is minus rating.
This western Yaoi is total garbage and the art is simply awful. Yes you see it all but there is nothing erotic or sexual about the graphics. Just plain crude and the story line sucks!

One of the stories in it I REALLY didn't like, but overall the book was pretty good. I don't know that I would buy it for myself (I read a friend's copy), but I'd continue with the series for sure. The tenticle monster was funny.

A Weak Offering of Original Yaoi,
This review is from: Yaoi Hentai, Volume 1 (Paperback)
I'm glad that I read this one at a convention and didn't throw away my money on it. The stories aren't that great. I never was a fan of the type of forced relationships many of them portray. I find such stories to be stereotypical, terribly bland, and just plain unappealing.
Of course, the thing that got to me most was the story where the soccer player gets raped by the sumo wrestling team. Yes, you read that correctly. There is a non-con scene with sumo wrestlers. I think it's hard to fall much lower than that.

New to Yaoi? Look here for help.,

This review is from: Yaoi Hentai, Volume 1 (Paperback)
I was very new to novel form Yaoi when I bought the whole series of Yaoi Hentai earlier this year, I must say that I spent the better part of the next month re-read each and every book roughly four to nine times a week. While the cover story for Volume 1 wasn't great it surely wasn't poor either.
I won't lie and said all the stories keep me coming back, there are a few I can not stand because they just poof the scene. But if you want to know what Yaoi is, read this series it will help you get a grasp of the books and might also guide you down a great reading path.

The art is REALLY bad,

I couldn't beleive that the art was so bad. Stick figures would have been an improvement. And the stories were not much better. I am glad I borrowed this from a friend and did'nt buy it.
