The item is well made and sturdy. The foam cushions are good. The seat is too high for me. It could be a little wider as it tend to wobble when using the seat. When opening, it locks in very well. It takes a little too much force to pull the locking springs back. a weaker person might not be able to get them far enough back to lock.

It's really two things in one. You can use it as a seat to sit on and do some things, but if you have to kneel and get closer down, well, just flip it around and kneel of the soft foam. Then, when its time to (try) and get up- the handles on either side let you use your arms to help boost you up- neat!

Definitely consider buying this handy chair/kneeler not only for gardening, but to have around when you have to kneel and fix stuff too. Also recommend Treat Your Own Knee Arthritis for some good exercises to get your knees working better and out of pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Yard Butler, December 5, 2010

I am 70 and love to garden. However, it has become increasingly difficult for me to get up from a kneeling position. This device has solved my problem. In addition, I can now avoid the red SC clay from permanently soiling my jeans. The Butler opens and closes easily and is portable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just for Gardening, May 21, 2010

This review is from: Yard Butler GKS-2 Garden Kneeler and Seat (Lawn & Patio)
I have used this as a kneeler to clean a floor and to clean out cabinets, as a seat to rest temporarily while reading incomprehensible instructions for another product. I have used it to kneel on while planting bulbs and to sit on while creating a container garden. To change from kneeler to seat just flip it over. It folds up for storage - not without some effort and possibly a bit of figuring out how it works depending on your experience with such things. It's portable. It's very sturdy. You can use the uprights to give yourself some leverage up if needed. The pads are nice on the knees and the seat. It's better than kneepads because it doesn't restrict your movement. The pads are 16" x 6.5" and the space between the uprights when set up is 22", providing plenty of space.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOLID & VERSATILE For OUTSIDE & INSIDE PROJECTS, August 2, 2009

This kneeler is constructed heavier than most of the other one's I have seen out there. I weigh 250 and have no fear or problems using this for sitting, kneeling, pushing myself up, or even standing on " which I have done already". This is definitely not limited for use in the yard, in fact we use it more for inside projects than outside. I could go on and on about all the things we have used it for. Basically anything you have to kneel for or sit in a low profile.

I have arthritis in my knees, and I used to dread when I would have to kneel or squat for something. I knew this was going to be like mission impossible trying to get back up again. With the side handles on this kneeler, you have something solid to hold and push yourself back up with. The seat has a nice thick cushion on it and is quite comfortable. This kneeler also folds up nicely to save space.

The Yard Butler has been a welcome and much used devise in our household and I would highly recommend it.

Aging knees and hips make weeding quite a chore; getting up again is the hardest part. The design with the knee-high handles is just great. Uposide down, it makes a light portable seat. Not for all the young folks, but a godsend for active Medicare folks!

4.0 out of 5 stars More than a garden tool, August 8, 2010

We have been painting the exterior of our ranch house and I've found this portable garden kneeler-seat perfect for low frame painting as well as gardening. Being in my 60's I like the seat position the best. When weeding I use both hands and dump the weeds in a basket, then just swing the seat 45 or 90 degrees and cover a lot of "ground". It was my viniyoga teacher who suggested this tool. She often had to address "garden back" in class! The only negative on this product, is that II was a little slow learning how to open and close it.

I use my "yard butler" garden kneeler and seat in the garden all the time. It is such a great help for any type of work where one has to kneel. Getting up is made easy with the side supports. It can be turned around and it serves as a comfortable little seat or as a sidetable by a garden chair. It is built very sturdy and can be folded for storage. I love my kneeler and highly recommend it for us elderly gardeners.

We got this for my mother who needs help getting up and down when doing the little bit of yardwork that she does. We originally saw it in Plow & Hearth for much more. We found the same type of product at Amazon for about half the price so we ordered it and hoped it would be as good of quality as the one from P & H. We were very pleased that it was nice and sturdy with a thick cushion. My mother loved it and said she would also be able to use it inside, plus it was very easy for her to open and close.
