5.0 out of 5 stars Super easy way to get those bulbs planted!
I love this bulb digger. For starters, it's a quality-made product. I've had long handled bulb diggers that have broken because the handle was not well attached to the bulb digger part. This product made my back-breaking work of planting several hundred tulip bulbs a breeze. A tip: be sure to water the area well before using any bulb digger. It softens the soil and makes...

3.0 out of 5 stars I have a LOVE/HATE relationship with this tool
It's a GREAT bulb planter! Has a wide foot plate for ease of pushing down into the ground.

The handle is a little on the short side. it would be nice if it was about 4" taller. It could go another inch or two deeper also, for bulbs that like to be planted good and deep like tulips.

Now for the hate part: I've only had it for 6 weeks, and it's...

I can put my full weight (175 lbs) on this with no problem. Goes right through some nasty rocky soil.

Most bulb planters you find on the market today are cheap junk. This planter is very well built. I have planted over 500 bulbs since I bought this planter with no problems. I can tell this thing will last for years!

It's a GREAT bulb planter! Has a wide foot plate for ease of pushing down into the ground.

The handle is a little on the short side. it would be nice if it was about 4" taller. It could go another inch or two deeper also, for bulbs that like to be planted good and deep like tulips.

Now for the hate part: I've only had it for 6 weeks, and it's already cracked on the handle side of the tube. I have heavy clay soil, and it takes a good jump on the plate to push this down into even moist soil. The occasional rock is impossible to miss, even though I move over immediately to another spot, that impact still took its toll.

I love it enough that I've ordered another one with one-day shipping to replace it, but the fact that it wore out that bad that fast is NOT a good thing. I'm hoping the seller will refund the price of the broken one, but am in too much of a hurry to get the rest of my bulbs in the ground to wait for a response.

The planter seems to be well built compared to most I have seen. In use, it works well with the exception that the dirt must be moist for it not to leave most of it in the hole, which probably is the case with all of them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Strong Construction - But Not Best Design, November 25, 2011

For the money, a very well built unit. Very strong construction. Problem is the dirt get stuck when you dig, which sort of destroys the whole purpose. In the end, I can see where you would be better off with a portable drill based unit. Also, if you are older, you may end up with an aching foot after after using the unit to plant a couple of hundred bulbs.

I have used this product to plant 200-400 bulbs so far and it has done the job well with no problem. The product is strong, well built, and I believe will hold up. I recommend it.

This is a heavy duty planter that I would recommend. We planted about 250 bulbs & it had no problem with the clay soil we have in some areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for not-so-rocky soil, November 8, 2011

This review is from: Yard Butler Bulb & Garden Planter BPL-6 (Lawn & Patio)
This bulb planter is sturdy and well balanced, and very easy to use.
It works well on most soil. Older kids LOVE to use it to help in the garden, too - maybe because it looks like a pogo stick.

Our yard is very rocky and I was hoping this would be a good time saver there, but it is not.
It gets stuck on any rock bigger than about a dime, and I'm back on my knees, digging with the trowel!
This is not the fault of the Yard Butler tool - just wanted to point out that those shoppers looking for a tool for planting in rocky soil should keep looking.

This arrived promptly and well-packaged. It is very sturdy and works well and easily. I'm a bit sorry that it still requires bending over to plant the bulbs and cover them with garden soil, but it makes the entire job much quicker than using a hand trowel.
