5.0 out of 5 stars yard butler roto driller
I bought this product for planting bulbs, and it really speeds things up! It does drain the battery on my cordless drill very quickly though. We use (abuse) the roto-driller to help with our cement like soil . Break it up with roto-driller then dig! A good product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nope --
Shoot -- this piece simply doesn't do what it's suppose to do. It slips in the electric drill. It doesn't have the power in the rechargeable drill. It doesn't work. It's that simple. I suppose it you were working in sand or mulch, you would be okay, but in standard soil, this is not a shortcut. It's a waste of money.

I saw the "Awsome Auger Adds" on TV and was intrigued by the concept. Knowing that the Made for TV ads typically rip you off for shipping, handling and general extras, I read some reviews and discovered my fears to be true. So, I found this as a "well reviewed" alternative. It is reasonably priced, shipping was very little, and it works. Seems well made too. Only thing is that in loose dirt, the dirt tends to fall back into the hole. It is certainly a labor saver for bulbs, annuals or just loosening up flower beds. I even use it to till fertilizer down into beds and large pots.

This is worth every penny I paid for it, just using it one day. It is a back saver, a time saver. Just be careful if you hit roots,it could hurt you.

I have a fairly heavy clay soil and feared it would just bog down. Generally, it doesn't bog at all. Roots can obviously be a problem if it hangs in them, but it then easily reverses out. I have a fairly strong cordless drill motor, and suspect that contributes a lot to the success. It can gum with mud under some circumstances, but I probably shouldn't be planting bulbs in those circumstances, and, anyway, it's easy to just wipe the mud off.

Great item at a good price.

this roto driller worked wonderfully this year while I was planting hundreds of bulbs and the easiest thing I've ever used for that purpose. Plus it doesn't leave a big mess behind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty useful, November 15, 2009
This review is from: Yard Butler RT-1 9-Inch Roto Driller (Lawn & Patio)
The roto driller (in my 3/8 inch drill) allowed me to plant 1050 bulbs (1000 crocus) in a fraction of the time it would have taken with one of the mechanical bulb planters. My only criticism is that it would often go too deep and get caught in the clay soil and I'd have to reverse the drill. Now I just have to wait and see if the bulbs come up.

Works well for planting daffodil bulbs..be careful when using with an cordless drill..it will give your wrists a twist as it seats in the ground..go slow and a little at a time

We planted 250 bulbs in 2 hours with this tool. Did not have any problems. I think it would be good to plant annuals also.

Update 9-15-11...I could not recommend this more. I also use it to plant annuals and when I need extra power around roots.

We used this roto driller to plant thirty bulbs in half an hour. You can't beat that.

In my day we used to call this an auger, but roto driller sounds much more futuristic.
