I bought this recently. I took it out of its shipping crate with the help of my neighbor and mowed the yard the same day. I only had to attach the battery cables...Install the seat and bolt on the steering wheel. We took our time so not to make any mistakes. If I had another to start up I could easily get it ready in less than an hour.
It mows well through thick grass that has plenty of small twigs and branches that can be mulched nicely with its 46 inch deck. If this riding mower holds up well for at least 5 years of normal use, I'd buy another one.

If this one last as long as the first one i bought i will not have to buy another one. It runs excellent and cuts grass with no problems. My first one lasted 9 years and it still runs very good. It is used to haul my trailer around the yard to pick anything we need it to do. It has one of the best decks around to stand up to floridas sandy soil and not wear out like some of the others.

I received it by crate and there was not a scratch on it. The only problem I had was with the battery. Dead as a door nail upon receipt. I tried recharging it, and then I tested it. The cells were dead. I called Amazon customer service, and they initiated a 3 way call with a Lawn Man representative on the phone. The Lawn Man representative advised me to open the battery caps up, and put in some fluid. I laughed about it, and told the representative that it is a sealed unit, with a "WARNING" on top of it. DO NOT OPEN! Just like a Die Hard battery! I'm not getting acid in my eyes, body, & clothes. Learn your product rep! The representative then told me she would send me a dry battery with no battery acid. I would need to pick it up at Autozone, or Pep Boys and pay for it. Fortunately Amazon ended the call with Yard Man, and they compensated me with a $30 dollar certificate. I bought a battery at Lowes, and now it works like a dream. The cut is awesome, and it performs like a champ. A lot of power for a 19.5 HP Briggs & Stratton engine. Beware of the CS line at Yard Man.

We have been using this Yard-Man riding mower for a few years now and it has held up well, requiring no real maintenance other than basic "winterizing" for the off season (we live in the North-East). Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Easy to Setup; this can be up and running in under two-hours
+ Reasonably Powerful; we have 2-acres of grass, some of it is fairly steep and we have no issues
+ Cuts Well; this provides a nice even cut every time

Cons -
- Must disengage the blades before putting it in reverse, so you can't cut going backwards (only a little annoying)

Overall, I have been pleased with this and would replace it with the same model.

Recommended!

Ordered this item after being tired of mowing my acre yard with a walk behind Craftsman (which constantly clogged by the way). Received an e-mail to schedule delivery which was done courteously and promptly. Arrived as scheduled, all crated up. The delivery men were efficient and I wasn't charged for delivery as expected. The mower was brand new. I attached the wires to the battery, attached the seat and the steering wheel, added gas, checked the oil which they had already added and it started right up!!! Mowed the grass right off, in less than an hour. It has a beautiful cut and the traction held well without tearing up the lawn, even on a couple of inclines. Since it's brand new, I will add a follow up review after it's had some use but so far, we're very happy!

I bought my 46" Yardman Garden Tractor in 1996 from Montgomery Ward's. It has done all I have asked of it without any major problems. I do wish that Yardman (MTD) would have installed Zirks on the blade spindle assembly
on the mower deck. I have had to replace a couple of them and they are not cheap (about 90.00 apiece). Outside of that it has performed much better than most tractors that I have had knowledge of.This tractor has the hydro-static transmission and has never been serviced. I mow approximately 1.5 acres on a regular basis. Incidentally, I was going to buy a new one a few years ago, went to Walmart because that is the only place I could find in this area that sold Yardman at that time. Unfortunately, I ran into the most ignorant sales rep of Walmart Garden Dept. He did not know if they even sold Yardman tractors. I left and went and bought a new Cub Cadet Garden tractor. It is a nice tractor, took some getting used to but I still use the old Yardman for most of my heavy duty stuff. When the Cadet dies I'll buy a new Yardman. The old guy will outlast me!
