1.0 out of 5 stars horrible, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Yardguard Pool Gate/Door Alarm System (Electronics)
We also had to get one of these to pass inspection, I mounted it on our back door. The alarm is SO loud, it would probably alert our neighbors 10 doors down if one of our kids tried to escape! When you press bypass - to let an adult get out, etc... you only get seven seconds to get everyone out before the alarm goes off... needless to say that with 3 kids, there is no way we can do that. Can you imagine if you have a party and there are lots of people going in and out? Our inspector comes today.....after that i will be looking into other options. You should look into other options right away.... don't consider this one (unless it's purely to pass inspection!!!

I had to have these to pass inspection for our new pool. I was forced to purchase 12 (state law). Of the 12 only 2 had the back cover screws that were not over tightened. There was NO way to get the backs off to install the 9v battery. I finally out of frustration broke the covers off so I could install the battery for inspection the next morning. I was smart enough to purchase an extra just in case, and thank goodness I did. One of the units when I installed the battery, I started to screw the back cover on and noticed an odd smell, well it started smoking and the battery was so hot I could barely touch it. Well I thought I put the battery in wrong or something and put another battery in it, and it started getting hot also. So it cost me $7.00 to mail it back after getting an RMA. They tested it and sent me a new one fairly quickly. They got me through inspection, and they all came down mostly fell down as the tape doesn't hold. We have no small children and this was much cheaper than a baby fence. They are extremely loud and come with brackets to mount them along with the double sided tape.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yardguard for pool area, September 25, 2011

We just installed a pool, and had two options - gate or alarm. Even though this product had 2 negative reviews, and have no children/friends with kids, we had no option but to purchase this alarm. 1) Because it was cheaper then the gate, and 2) because there wasn't another competitor that met the State of Florida Law Requirements.

Pro: Will give you sufficient time to react, if you are in another room distracted, taking a shower, etc. In 7 seconds the alarm will go off and it's loud.

Con: Constantly activated does not have an On or Off switch. The only way to deactivate is to remove the battery. On/Off switch would be a great feature for those without kids who have visitors with kids. If placed on windows you cannot open the windows without the alarm going off - again here the off/on switch would come in handy. The wires connecting the pass switch to enter from pool area to living area, will get damage by the sliding doors constantly being open and closed.
