It was described as black powder coated aluminum, product was actually grey painted steel, screws were zinc coated not stainless, not at all what is pictured, but actually work very well to tell you the truth. They are incredibly sturdy when mounted with wedge anchors into concrete. I put a fence at the edge of a patio and it is really sturdy with my dogs jumping all over it.

I used these to replace two Simpson brand post bases that were holding two 4x4s of my fence over a small section of concrete.
Right off the bat it is noticeable that these are a solid product as they are very heavy. I bolted them into place and they feel very sturdy, even more so than the Simpsons. With the Simpsons I was always able to rock the fence a bit and because of that they both failed within a few years with these I get no movement unless I pull very hard.

I purchased these to use in the construction of a front gate for our courtyard. While I did not use the through bolts, I used lad bolts of my own choosing. These bases were simple to use and provided for sturdy uprights. They suited my project quite well.

I like the multiple holes for anchoring the thru-bolts as well as the extra screws to secure the post in several spots on all sides. Posts seem very secure to bases. Base is thick enough to be very secure when fastened to mounting material with appropriate fasteners. The design of thru-bolts is a bit annoying though as you have to be perfectly straight and aligned with your holes or the thru-bolts will not thread onto the end on the other side. The female end which receives the male screw end also inserts a bit into the opposite hole but depth-wise must also be pretty flush against the bracket for the threads to reach which can change its angle relative to the drilled hole (kind of hard to explain but as soon as you try to do it you will know what I mean). I found this can be eased by drilling through both sides of the post after marking the holes and making sure you have plenty of "daylight" when looking through. Then you have to be sure the bolt is threading on straight before tightening with the impact driver or it will easily cross-thread and be a bear to remove/start over. This does give the through bolts a nice look afterwards with no thread sticking through. Price individually combined was less than the set of 4 (I needed 12).

Bought these after a disappointing trip to out local hardware stores. Saved us about $85 on 6 of them. The ones available at our hardware store were several inches higher, and would have thrown off the height of the railings. These look, feel and seem very sturdy. They work great. We used 2 1/2" concrete screws in 5/16" size.

put them on exactly as instructed and all four flanges do not sit flat on surface, not just one, all seven were the same, required shimming to keep post vertically plumb. one piece casting would be far better solution

I ordered this and noticed that it does not come with the bolts required to mount it to a surface. 1/2 INCH BOLTS ARE WRONG!! YOU NEED 1/4 INCH BOLTS OR SCREWS !! This was a question asked in customer questions under the item. Two people mentioned 1/2 inch screws or bolts for mounting and also there was a photo that 1/2 inch concrete wedge bolts are frequently ordered with this item. 1/2 INCH BOLTS ARE WRONG!! YOU NEED 1/4 INCH BOLTS OR SCREWS !! This is clearly stated in the instructions that arrive with the item. No one has reviewed it in 10 months and I can only think that sometime in the past 10 months, the manufacturer has modified the size of the mounting holes. THIS ITEM NOW NEEDS 1/4 INCH MOUNTING BOLTS !! If you know this, you won't be stuck trying to return a heavy box of 1/2 inch bolts like I am. Other than that, the bracket looks heavy duty and great for mounting our mailbox post on an existing sidewalk.

I have tried a couple of these post bases ,including the Simpson E-Z base, and this is my favorite. It comes in two pieces which allows it to fit any size 4 x 4 post. As most of you know, 4 x 4 can come in varied actual sizes. It feels solid and the mounting hardware is sturdy and easy to install. I have t

I only gave it four stars as I was looking for black. Look closely at the picture, this item is gray. It still looks good, but I would have liked an option for a black. You will also need some lag screws for the base holes. I used 1 1/2 x 8mm lag screws for my posts into a wood base and it is solid. You will need to consider an appropriate screw for your project.

I purchased two on separate Saturdays and had both by the following Monday. I recommend this base for your deck post needs.
