Book Description

February 1979
Now published for the first time anywhere, her most extraordinary novel. This is Jacqueline Susann's first novel, completed in 1956 and only recently rediscovered. Although never previously published, it was a story which had always had a special place in her heart. Yargo is spellbinding, romantic - the story of a beautiful woman who was kidnapped by the most attractive man she had ever met - a man from outer space!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yargo, February 7, 2003
By
Susan (Mechanicsville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
I can only say that I am sorry that the rating system here is limited to only 5 stars!

I first read this book in my mid teens and feel in love with it immediately. The characters are rich and the story is gravitational!!
Ms. Susann has created quite a plot for our protagonist, Janet, who is drearily preparing to marry the man who unromantically calls her, "Honey Girl" when she is unexpectedly swept away into space, having been mistaken for a famous scientist. She goes through such trials as learning that she will be sent to live on Mars, getting her envoy on the way to Mars kidnapped by Venusians, nearly becomes the "Mother" of the new Venusian race, and finds love in the leader of Yargo, The Yargo himself. Along the way, she learns much about herself, and the human race, from the woman who is appointed to watch over her during her stay on Yargo and on the trip to Mars and beyond.

All in all this is one of my top 3 favourite books of all time!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoever thought Susann could do science fiction?, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Yargo: A Love Story (Hardcover)
I got this in paperback in 1979 or so. It was published years after Susann's death. It seems she had given it to a publisher friend of hers and he "lost" it in his files. He rediscovered it years later and it was published once and seems to be forgotten. It's not a great piece of literature by any means but it's actually a funny, well-done soft science-fiction tale. Basically it tells about a woman who is "kidnapped" from Earth and all these adventures she has with various other beings in outer space. All in all it just turns out to be a love story! If you read "Once Is Not Enough" the ending of that sort of predicts this book. There's no sex, drugs or anything like that in this one. Just a sci-fi adventure love story. If you can find a copy it's worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST SCI-FI ROMANCE NOVELS EVER!!, February 8, 2002
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
Well, I guess you could say I love this book. Jacqueline Susann, famous for "Valley of the Dolls" (another topnotch read) started out great with this Posthumous novel of Bumblebee love and fantasy romance. I read it way back when and then over and over again through the years. "YARGO" is probably in my top 10 favorite books to read when I'm feeling blue, happy, sentimental or just whenever. Don't look for Techno-SciFi...just look for a nice and easy story.
