3.0 out of 5 stars One in a million
I cannot say that this book would ever make my top 100 favorites of books read, but it is definitely one in a million. I read this book as a teenager and years later recommended it as easy reading material for my own teenager. Even though I had not read the book in decades, I was still able to describe it to my own daughter in vivid detail, down to the caption "Tomorrow,...

I can only say that I am sorry that the rating system here is limited to only 5 stars!

I first read this book in my mid teens and feel in love with it immediately. The characters are rich and the story is gravitational!!
Ms. Susann has created quite a plot for our protagonist, Janet, who is drearily preparing to marry the man who unromantically calls her, "Honey Girl" when she is unexpectedly swept away into space, having been mistaken for a famous scientist. She goes through such trials as learning that she will be sent to live on Mars, getting her envoy on the way to Mars kidnapped by Venusians, nearly becomes the "Mother" of the new Venusian race, and finds love in the leader of Yargo, The Yargo himself. Along the way, she learns much about herself, and the human race, from the woman who is appointed to watch over her during her stay on Yargo and on the trip to Mars and beyond.

All in all this is one of my top 3 favourite books of all time!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoever thought Susann could do science fiction?, June 10, 2008
This review is from: Yargo: A Love Story (Hardcover)
I got this in paperback in 1979 or so. It was published years after Susann's death. It seems she had given it to a publisher friend of hers and he "lost" it in his files. He rediscovered it years later and it was published once and seems to be forgotten. It's not a great piece of literature by any means but it's actually a funny, well-done soft science-fiction tale. Basically it tells about a woman who is "kidnapped" from Earth and all these adventures she has with various other beings in outer space. All in all it just turns out to be a love story! If you read "Once Is Not Enough" the ending of that sort of predicts this book. There's no sex, drugs or anything like that in this one. Just a sci-fi adventure love story. If you can find a copy it's worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST SCI-FI ROMANCE NOVELS EVER!!, February 8, 2002
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
Well, I guess you could say I love this book. Jacqueline Susann, famous for "Valley of the Dolls" (another topnotch read) started out great with this Posthumous novel of Bumblebee love and fantasy romance. I read it way back when and then over and over again through the years. "YARGO" is probably in my top 10 favorite books to read when I'm feeling blue, happy, sentimental or just whenever. Don't look for Techno-SciFi...just look for a nice and easy story.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd Greatest Novel Every written in English, September 23, 2000
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
This is Jackie's first novel (never published till after her death. It is (perhaps) an autobiographical novel of a woman who is snatched into outer space by a race of aliens called Yargoians with Yargo as their leader.

Jackie at time was in love with Yule Brenner who was starring in "The King and I" on Broadway. She wrote this novel hoping to get into the movies. If they bought her book, she would insist she got the lead.

After much ado, the heroine escapes the fangs of a 200 lb. queen bumble bee who wants to eat her, and into the arms of Yargo. She, of course, falls in love with him.

I won't tell you more, just read it, and let the spell and genius of Jackie Susanne flow over you.

(P.S. "Valley of the Dolls" is the GREATEST novel ever written in English.)

5.0 out of 5 stars A compeling novel by the most exciting authoress of our time, June 1, 2000
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
I couldn't get enough of this book! My introduction to Jackie was quite recent with "Valley of the Dolls", followed by "Every Night, Josephine" (an adorable book!) and then "Once Is Not Enough". Just recently managed to find copies of "Yargo" and "Dolores" in a used book store (25 cents a copy!). I chose to read "Yargo" first, though Sci-fi is usually not my thing, but I had a feeling Jackie would make it as exciting as possible! And, boy, was I right about that! To dismiss "Yargo" as well as Jackie's other works as "trash" is entirely incorrect, in my opinion. (It has taken me no more than a day to finish each of her books, and I am sure this is true with a lot of you, too!) You find a little bit of yourself in every Susann novel; there is always something relatible in a Susann novel. I highly reccomend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars So you think you know Jacqueline Susann?, March 24, 2004
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
Well you don't. Not until you read Yargo. This is an amazingly good sci fi/love story. Janet, the heroine is probably the most complicated female Ms. Susann ever created and Yargo himself is perfect, literally, he's worshiped as a god by a whole planet. The book has humor, wit and hooks the reader from the very first paragraph. If you don't touch another Jacqueline Susann book give this one a chance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Suzanne on Susann, May 1, 2010
By
I read this book the first time when I was 18. It was the first Jaqueline Susann book I had ever read. I loved it. This book has remained one of my all time favorites. It is a sci fi/romance with lots of action. The characters are lively and well thought out, and as with all of Jaquelines books "Yargo" gets you thinking about the big picture. The book was written back in the 50s so don't get hung up on the science of it. Janet Cooper, the heroine, is an ordinary girl living a somewhat sedate life, until one night she is accidently abducted by aliens. You see, these aliens had been monitoring our planet, and they didn't like what we were doing to our sun. It turns out they had hoped to abduct Einstein, or some other scientific genius, so they could reason with them. Instead they picked up 21 year old, newly engaged, little, ordinary(so they thought) Janet Cooper. Someone so inferior to them in everyway, yet these aliens with there superior everything, including killer good looks were....well you will have to read the book to get the rest. You won't be sorry.

I also think "Yargo" is suitable for children. I believe this because it is a straight forward book, very exciting and somewhat innocent in content. There is no drug usage, sex, or fowl language in this book. There is some alien bloodshed. Yargo may appeal more to girls as it is a romance, probably 8th grade and up.

Out of the hundreds of books I've read, this is the only book I re-read every couple of years, and it never gets old. I still watch the skies...

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling storytelling, April 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
As an avid reader, I can tell you that no book has ever drawnme into the story like Yargo. Reading this book is like watching amovie, it is not only easy to visualize everything, it is impossiblenot to. I recently discovered while unpacking some books that my copy has come up missing. I have had no luck in securing another copy, which saddens me because I could read this book over and over and never become bored. This book is for anyone who enjoys great science fiction and who also enjoys a great love story. Most woman who read this book will find themselves falling in love with the main male character. If you find this book, keep it it is a treasure. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Space Fantasy A Go-Go, March 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Yargo (Paperback)
This book is a delight to read, so over the top that it becomes totally believable and will probably change your life! If you're not really int sci-fi don't be put off as this has got all the Jacqueline Susann trademarks that we adore and more, more, more! Like all of Jacqueline's books, once is not enough and you will read it over and over again. If you like Barbarella you'll love this and boy would it make a great motion picture, shame that Jackie's not still around for a cameo role.
